It's nit as easy, that guy should write quarterly or something, fed civil service nor be state o. Na who they catch off guard go face panel and it takes alot to sack them. U need to prove beyond doubt. Av u not noticed that in fed service even if u sack them after a while they always come back and compasses. There is a way to trat this misconduct, has he followed the due process. He messed up.lateness is not a bases of sack.

In this our generation that going to.office is fizzling out eh? Abeg make him calm down.

@seunmsg this is surprising, coming from you.
Umahi should not calm down. These so-called public servants are the real enemies of Nigeria and he must stand his ground if we are going to witness any meaningful change. Most of these guys are doing nothing out there aside from running their own personal empires. They are easily replaceable with people with better academic qualifications even right here on Nairaland within just a few hours notice!

If we want progress, we have to make hard decisions and stand by it!

Federal public service is very different from the state service. Any minister that want to take on the civil servant will run into trouble sooner than later. Umahi needs to calm down and work with the ministry staff if he intends to achieve anything meaningful in the ministry.

Thank you!

Reasonable Nigerians are solidly behind UMAHI. Without self and group discipline, nothing tangible can be achieved.
It's not by force to work for the Federal Civil Service. If you can't toe the line of discipline and responsibility, step aside and let Nigerians who wants to work hard and be responsible take your place.
Not everything should be politicized. Politicians come and go, but the future and progress of our country should take preeminence over every other thing.

Civil service is one of the biggest problems of Nigeria. Very indiscipline institution.

Lateness is even a small part of their regular misconduct.

They are not even productive towards the Nigerian state.

Shameless people. Why did they come to work late. U are late and instead of begging or being remorse, the are making noise again.
How will Nigeria change if this are the type of people running the processes of the government.

Umahi should sack all these lazy fools chanting he must go and employ competent and disciplined people. They think it is business as usual. Many of them usually come late to work, I have witnessed it personally. Some don't even go at all till towards the ending of the month so that they can collect salary that they never worked for. They should be ashamed of themselves for going late to work, yet they have the effrontery to be shouting he must go.

Which buses? Do they tell u that there r no buses that convey them to and from work? By 2pm, go to d federal Secretariat whether u won't see 18 seater buses n Elrufai buses waiting to convey them to their various locations. U come here to justify nonsense. Lateness isn't one of d offences in d public service rule? We'll attribute d problem of d country to our leaders yet we r d problem.
Read my initial post again. This time read it slowly to understand that I never supported their lateness. Since buses are available then they should apply civil service rules & get them punished for their actions

the lateness was caused by the poor implementation of the government policy of subsidy removal, most of the workers probably need to Trek a reasonable distance from their houses to save part of the cost of transportation which has gone high heaven.

Yet we all claim to want positive change in this country. How is that possible when workers are bold enough to ask for the sack of a minister just because he wants them to report to their duty post as at when due.

A lot of you can’t read and understand. The late coming is a small issue and not the reason for the showdown with the minister. The minister is not allowing the civil servants do their job. He is bringing consultant engineers to do the job of the civil servants. That’s the crux of the matter.

I’m a federal civil servant and I know how the system works. I worked in this same ministry of works for 5 years before I was posted out. So, I have a good knowledge of the ministry unlike a lot people who are just capping what they know nothing about.

The federal public service is run by bureaucracy. Any minister that comes in and want to fight the established bureaucrats will fail. The federal system is a complex structure that is run on laws, regulations, circulars, PR, and deep experience. The civil servants are far more knowledgeable than him about the system. They will set him up and need him up quickly if he takes them on.

Can we allow such undiscipline to continue?

98% of government workers across all MDAs goes to work late including myself and the minister. It’s an entrenched culture that will take more than locking the gate to change.
