There is Venezuela. 4 million of them (more than 10%) don japa from their own country because of the severe hardship there. Then there is Congo.

1$ is equal to 34 Venezuela boliva.

The difference between Nigeria and Venezuela is that you people believe in god will help us, we will survive, everything is in gods hands, that is why millions of you all accepted una fates and ready to suffer until death.

It is not like this in Venezuela

You have never stepped out of Nigeria. That 40 dollars will only barb your hair abroad. At most, two meals in a cheap restaurant where they will give you fries and one small chicken.
No one is saying Nigeria is perfect, comparing dollar to naira at face value is nonsense

Everyone with a million or more wants to know how far it would go overseas. The way you worked hard for your millions in Nigeria is the way they work overseas.

You blame leaders you praised and elected into Government since the 50s, 60s and 70s for everything but yourselves. Many of you the only time you are happy is when your kin that do not care about you is in power.

The 10 million naira you saved for years to Japa can establish business in Nigeria where you can employ others and live in relative comfort. But you want to sell your land, house, truck, lorry or tankers that made you millions to buy tickets.

Oponu, ask how much is 10 million naira in dollars and how poor people with 10k in dollars survive in America in a year.

Depends on what you went there for. But I can tell you no place like home (Nigeria) at the end of the day.

These advanced countries can turn you into a slave working the rest of your life to pay taxes and service debt without ever experiencing true wealth.

In few short years since I’ve been back to Nigeria I have experienced progress at a rate that would have been almost impossible over there. You see the advantage Nigeria has over those counties is that it’s easier to cut corners here. As long as you have the right connects 😉

Cutting corners is corruption, it is the fundamental reason why Nigeria is a failed state. I'm happy your corrupt and lazy self is enjoying Nigeria, it proves that only the drench of the world can survive in that cesspit called Nigeria.

I live in the UK work 70 hours a week own my own technology business and can not dream of living a chaotic country like Nigeria.

Big fat shame on you. You are proud you are cutting corners and would count that as something worth mentioning? You are part of the problems of Nigeria.

Feels great, to know foods and drinks are relatively cheap....

Tho some fancy dish ain't cheap if you compare them to Nigeria exchang rates..

🍕 $8 in naira 8k... you can get pizza for 4k naija
Shawarma $16 in naira 16k... you can get Shawarma for 800naira in naija

When they beg you for secondary school make you focus for class, you say no. What is the minimum wage in Nigeria and what is it where they buy the pizza for $8? This comparison is the silliest thing anyone should do. May compare in terms of purchasing power parity.

tosinhtml:

This is not true for countries across Europe, I guess madrid is a good place to live but a decent apartment that was $500 in UK or Canada in 2002 is now $1400 in 2023. Infact Canada has housing crisis at the moment. You can read about it using Google, it is not an hidden news at all.

What was minimum wage in 2002 and what is it in 2023? Perhaps, a comparison of those two side by side with their proportional value when compared to housing might help us understand if things have changed drastically. On the housing issue in Canada, I wouldn't want to blame the government because opening up the economy is good however, I think they were not fast enough in their planning for the increasing population.

We simply have wicked men in power, most of our leaders have traveled out of Nigeria to saner climes and they see how well developed those places are but won't try an make Nigeria to be like those places they've been to.

No government can remain in power without the consent of the Nigerian people. Not only that, remember that ALL our democratic governments were elected by THE PEOPLE of Nigeria.

Immigration is perfectly normal in life and always been part of humanity from the beginning of time. Stories abound in historical and spiritual publications and letters. In the past people do migrate as a large group. In modern world's context, immigration is often personal/family.

Just evaluate your options and make your "personal" go or no-go decision. Immigration will not change the reality of life that we will always have the financially poor, the mid-level and the rich in most societies. That won't change for your society as a whole whether you stay put where you are or you move somewhere else.

What may change is your personal fortune.

Certain locations provide a HIGHER PROBABILITY for any random person to achieve the world standard middle class standard of living, so it's not all about individual ability or talent.

The difference is in the standard of living. Because the western world has better economies, they therefore have more money to deploy to services. Also people have more money to afford more things. in America some older people will tell you that when they went to high school, they didn’t have ac in classrooms, only fans but today its unthinkable to be in class without AC in Florida. Also back in the day, many people here were using septic tanks in homes just like Nigeria. But the as years went by, the govt took them of septic tanks and put them on sewage system. So in esssnce when you earn more, standard of living improves. Nigeria is earning very little with a gdp per capita of $2,500

Shut up you twatt. I came from that same UK okay. I know how the system works there. It’s not like there is no corruption it’s not just easily accessible to people of a certain race and social status. If you truly live there then you should know this. so spare me this “holier than thou” attitude okay?

Yes Nigeria is a country where your connections take you far. That’s what I meant by cutting corners. I never mentioned any overt corrupt act but your stupid self just had to come make a clown yourself on my mentions. Lazy? You have no idea who you’re taking to. I run over 6 separate entities in Nigeria now. I will keep cutting corners to make my businesses more prosperous. If e pain you go and jump off Tower bridge. Mumu.

Yup I wonder why they all shout high taxes. These are not omo onile or upper iweka touts predatory taxes or the daylight robbery by government 'officials' at local/state levels in Nigeria in the name of collecting taxes and all sorts of tickets daily. You actually see what your tax is doing in developed countries.

obaidan:

Well High taxes is not a problem at all because the income is high too. And ofcourse the high taxes benefits the payer of the tax....so it is not even an issue at all.

The second bolded part is cost of living not standard of living. So they had to double the salaries.

Going by this, food has to be cheaper abroad.

Because in Nigeria, judging by the minimum wage, you need the two days earnings i.e 2k to feed for just a day.

I have a question I want to ask.

When I was born in Nigeria, I met the economy at a certain stage, and what I observed is that when the economy rises, it never drops. I've heard stories from the past about how the economy was. Going back to the 1960s and 1970s, the standard of living was very low, to the extent that a double salary was paid during the Gowon regime.

Those who have traveled out of Nigeria to countries that have a better economy than Nigeria How does it feel, and how did it impact your life?

You are very stupld.

It's one thing to be a catholic and another to be pentecostal type of Christian.

The ones that practiced catholicism right from the time of Galileo Galilee in Italy Europe, did thry not build their society with science? Fo0l. Did you see where they contributed money to litter everywhere with nonsense churches them stay in there to pray for jobs like poor people do in Nigeria?

I posted the exchange rate between Nigeria and Venezuela against the dollar, while there own is 2 figures, our own is 4 figures instead of this anlmal to start by telling me which economy should be more stable using that metric you're talking nonsense.

You black monkeys are used to suffering that is why Nigeria has not bcom like Venezuela or sri Lanka. Right from the days of slavery for 400 years, the genes of surviving hardship developed in ur ancestors was passed down to you.

While you're observing austerity measures with increased pump price, stagnant low wages and severe inflation, 2m naira was given to lawmakers for their holiday in addition to their bogus salaries and allowances and everybody is calm because just like their ancestors, they can survive anything and they can survive hardship till death.

This is a partially false, most of the people living paycheck to paycheck are always in disarray when they lose their jobs. The citizens are paid monthly when unemployed but sometimes that money may not be enough, so they have to work to live above their cost of living. A lot of Europeans get loans for vacation, then travel. They start working to repay those loans in years or months, that is difficult as well.

Regarding pensions, It works perfectly abroad & that one I can speak for.

You actually need enough liquid cash, investments to live a safe & comfortable life. Don't let anyone deceive you with this European lifestyle. For example, most African parents who relocated don't take student loans, they pay their kids tuition fully so as to enable their kids build wealth in the future.

European system is good, but it is not perfect.

Ideally, an average human need absolutely nothing in this life but good foods, shelter and sex, which their systems has already taken care of irrespective of your social status. You cant promote the culture of wealth accumulation and build egalitarian society that is free of needless crimes, this is where Africans failed totally.

The reason you think paycheck is bad, is because you are looking forward to build wealth or living above your means. The reason you think accumulation of wealth is very important is merely because of fear of future, which is very understandable in this part of the world. Their societies are designed in such a way that you don't have any reason to accumulate wealth because you will be taking care of when you retire, and your children too would be well taking care of.

The rich among them also prioritise their societies because luxury comes with heavy taxes.

Finally, if their way of living by paycheck is not that good, then why are we living in poverty in Africa where there is no such opportunity? If their system is not that good, why are they progressing, while we that aften sees fault in them retrogressing? Why are we rushing to the same countries but fail to learn anything good from them?
