That job offer sounds like a house slave job!
Sometimes you wonder if these companies have a soul or morals! Why would you make that sort of offer that you wouldn't accept, to someone else!?
Dude just invest directly on yourself and go for the masters abroad. Good luck!

COMPAQ:

Haba!!! Which N7k food are you eating?

And no you don't need N2mln to N5mln in Nigeria. If you earn N1mln a month net in Nigeria (all other things equal) you are probably better off in the short to medium term than someone who earns $5k net in America where rent for a 3 bed alone could take 40% of that. However if you get a N4mln 3 bed in Lekki, you have spent 33% on housing. And with fewer bills to pay.

To put it another way, someone earning $5k a month may struggle to buy ticket to come to Nigeria (credit card aside) more than you can afford a ticket to fly to America with your N1mln.

In the long term though because of devaluation, that's where the challenge will be.
How much would it cost you to have 24/7 light in lekki.... That's probably 100k a month minimum ... Plus service charge how much 50k
That's 43% gone... How much to fuel your car per month minimum 100k thats 53% gone
Data, cable, tv subscription that's that's 50k minimum

That's 630k gone... No food no outing no cloths, car maintenance nko?

You would struggle with 1 million a month and won't have much saving

This kind of post is getting annoying here on nairaland. You were called to pick up a job where you submitted your CV without any form of interview On top of that, you were given an official car.....fairly tale stories. By the way, is N350k per month a good salary in Nigeria now?? It shows the level of attainment of the OP. May be for him, N350K is a big money. People are on N1m per month salary in Nigeria and still left the job and travelled. Peoples' choices and perceptions are different.

You have been searching for a job for long but nothing came up. Then you decided to travel to Canada for a master's degree and then Japa all the way to hustle in Canada.

You were granted a visa and the day you are suppose to travel you get a call from an oil company you had dropped your CV to inform you that you have been given a job with a salary of N350k per month, an official car, private accommodation for 5 years and free medical care as a staff of the company.

Will you accept this job offer and turn down your travel to Canada or will you still travel and turn down the job offer.

Raise me an offer of N2m plus all the benefits mentioned. I may consider deferring japa by a year to accumulate funds and japa finally

And he pay his bills with Naira, so you think 50 or even 80k CAD is a lot of money for someone living in Canada.

Did i hear you say with 500k salary in Nigeria you are a king? bros with my family size of of 5, with my side hustle, i earn close to 1m-1.1m sometimes, but believe me inflation in this country is mad currently and is not what you think, 500k is good but you can't be a king at all.

I might have exaggerated, but you would live a decent life.

Can you live well in Nigeria with 350k a month?
As you could see, my observation wasn't about 350k, it was about the conversion. Just as 350k is not enough to live well under Buhari/Tinubu, one million naira when converted too will be little and one can actually live well with it. My point is that people won't get your point if you bring in conversion rate into discussions like this

Dont make a decision that you will live to regret for the rest of your life.

Choose the job in Nigeria.
Canada is not as rosy as it seems.

Don't let your village people deceive you. You better get on the plane and Japa to Canada. The only people who compare a job in Nigeria to a job in Canada are people who have not traveled to Canada or the USA before.

The opportunities are endless. The same job the oil company wants to pay you $350 a month for, will pay you over $12k a month in Canada. Health benefits, sane society, etc. We are not even talking about the opportunity it presents for you to file for permanent resident cards for your family members. Which automatically puts them on the path to citizenship within 3 years.

After you get the passport, you can now decide where you want to go. It opens up more opportunities. You can pretty much work anywhere in the world.

When we advise people to japa. It is not just for the economic benefits, but also for safety.

If ever there was a time for you to leave Naija immediately, you wouldn't have to wait for a visa. You can buy a ticket and fly back to Canada or any if the 175 countries the passport allows visa free.

Also, if ever there was insecurity concerns in Naija, all you need to do is make it to a Canadian embassy or call them and they will send agents to come pick you up and fly you back to Canada.

I experienced this first hand, in 2014. I went to Mexico with my wife for a 5 day all inclusive holiday. The resort we stayed in got hit by a storm out of nowhere. We got to the top of the building and was able to place a call to the US embassy in Mexico. In 4 hours a truck pulled up and lifted 107 of us, all US citizens and took us back to an airforce base. From there an American airlines plane arrived 2 hours later and flew us back to America.

Remember, you and your family having dual citizenship is a great thing. Don't let anyone deceive you. Most of the politicians and their families have it. Most celebrities have it.

Bad comparison!

The value you will get in Nigeria, is not same with that of Canada.

With 500k monthly in Nigeria, you are a king!

With $3000 monthly in Canada, you are still a pauper., but when you convert to Naira, you feel you are doing well.

Do you know how much rent, gas, groceries, phone and internet bills and not to mention the tax being sniffed out of you.

Your comparison is void. Value is different!

I wonder how people don't understand these things

This is the problem I have with you guys. Your advices are devoid of wisdom. You guys think people make money to be worshipped or show some kinda pride. 500k, king? And after that, he achieves what with it when his mates are earning more than 20million naira a year as a truck driver in canada. I pity your sense of reasoning, and the earlier you change it, the better for you.

Next time ask him how much is the balance after paying taxes and other stuff.

If you're sure of what you just said, please and please leave Naija, I was in same situation in 2017 and no regret or whatsoever now.
I visited Naija in June 2023 and am glad I took that risk to japa.

No even now that $1 is over and above 1k already.
That's about $350 a month menn please move on bro.

If the company will retain you on their accomodation even after 5 years including fuelling your car, then it worth working with the company. Because accomodation alone takes more than the salary not to talk of other bills. In the recent times, Nigeria is the worst place to live.

Masters in Canada no dey go anywhere meanwhile the job is.
There's nothing wrong in delaying the travel by a year.
Take the job and if after a year you feel you made the wrong choice then there's no law against quitting.
