HNDs are issued by Polytechnics while BSCs are issued by universities. If you complete your education in either of them, then you pick your certificate from that particular institution accordingly.
Polytechnics are different from universities, short and simple.

This baseless and meaningless argument or plan, if well investigated must find its origin in the mind of a very greedy individual, who wanted to satisfy his greedy and corruption filled heart.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a HND. The dichotomy only arises from the thoughts of people, that those with that HNDs are unemployable. If our politicians possess HNDs, there will be no basis for certificate cases in courts.

And by the way, what is the assurance that a BSC holder can perform better than an HND holder? Nowadays university students largely sort themselves, while they junket the country enjoying themselves. Too many BSC holders cannot defend their qualifications.

This matter should not have arisen in the first place, and should be laid to rest.

We are not ready to be serious.

Both HND and Bachelor's Degree need a serious overhaul.

HND is like Associate Degree in the U.S and universities have been demarketing such programs for a long time even abroad.However, let's be frank the bar of entry into both is different. Uk that colonized us, has conversation and top up programs from hnd to BSC but oversabi Nigeria with outdated curriculum says you should start your BSC journey afresh. Even if you top-up here some companies will loathe you.

HND is like a stigma in the eyes of many organizations here. If ur cut off no reach prepare for another year. BSC or Hnd doesn't determine intelligence but in the eyes of myopic organizations, it does.

If you are reading this and a Nigerian pls I'm on my knees. Boycott polytechnics. Don't advice your enemy to enter 4 walls of polytechnics a.k.a time wasting ground

Once you gain admission, you are seen as a second class citizen. If all prospective student have my mindset, all polytechnics will be empty and they will be forced to offer degree programs.

You can't be spoiling the lives of others by offering ond, hnd and pgd wen u only need BSC and Msc to be a top pick with bigger salary in many organizations.

I warned my younger bro even though he got distinction in his ond. He left and now he has his BSC.

Associate degree is like OND.

If you combined OND + HND is far above BSc in unit or credit especially if you have upper credit or distinction.

Your second paragraph is where the MAIN ISSUE is... Polytechnics offer a lot of courses that in the right sense they shouldn't be offering... Funny thing is, it is those courses that have the highest number of enrolments... During my service year, a course like Mass communication, in Nasarawa state polytechnic had up to 500 students, both those that come to class and those that'll NEVER set foot in class till they get their certificate

Although, same can be said about some universities of technology, University of agriculture and University of education offering some courses just to get more students

It's absurd and ridiculous! People spending hundreds of thousands of naira didn't think it through at all. Is it not better to get a PGD in a university instead of converting your HND to BSc? I don't think unlilag offers a degree conversion program like, they offer postgraduate degrees in every course. That's what a lot of HND graduates opted for. That degree conversion is pure scam.

Problem here is, some schools don't accept HND for their postgraduate programmes... I stand to be corrected, but even in UNILAG, you can't go for PG in [/b]some[b] courses with just HND... Hence the urge for conversion

We are saying the same thing. But simply swapping HND with BA/BSc as if they're pounds and dollars is what I said isn't ideal. What you're doing matches my description. It could be called top up or conversion degree. That's not an issue for me and shouldn't be for anyone. Sadly, the editorial didnt provide enough background for anyone not familiar with the saga.

Please be realistic, HND Graduates have so much limitations in Nigeria, e.g

HND Graduates can't become Lecturers in Nigeria even if they Obtain PGD and MSc.
HND Graduates are not eligible for PTDF Scholarships and all other federal and state government scholarships for MSc studies.
HND Graduates are not eligible for COREN.
HND Graduates are not eligible for the various Job Seeker Visas introduced by many countries.
HND Graduates don't go beyond Level 14 in Federal and State civil service.

So you can see that it's not about inferiority mindset, it's about opportunities passing you buy in the Nigerian system which you can easily make right by opting for a Top Up program

Our mindset is confused and mislead HND and BSc are all graduates.
