HND Graduates can't become Lectures in Nigeria even if they Obtain PGD and MSc.
HND Graduates are not eligible for PTDF Scholarships and all other federal and state government scholarships for MSc.
HND Graduates are not eligible for COREN.
HND Graduates are not eligible for the various Job Seeker Visas introduced by many countries.
HND Graduates don't go beyond Level 14 in Federal and State civil service.

So you can see that it's not about inferiority mindset, it's about opportunities passing you buy in the Nigerian system which you can easily make right by opting for a Top Up program

There is no where in the world where parity exists between HND and BA/BSc. They're two different programmes with different learning outcomes. If you cannot be admitted to a university and you went to Poly to gain ND/HND, to gain a unuverdity degree in the same subject, you'll have to undertake prescribed number of units before being awarded the degree. This is what overseas universities call top up. But you simply cannot convert HND to BA/BSc, it's not a currency.

What if I told you I went to a Polytechnic and from the way you think, I can tell I'm more intellectually sound than you. You actually don't know what a pun means because that's CLEARLY not a pun.

At least mention the schools. UI, UNILAG and maybe 10 more universities can boast of producing proper students. I've seen the videos of some University students making all sort of blunders.

Just as there are 4 or 5 Polytechnics in Nigeria that produce proper students better than some universities. Yabatech, Laspotech and I've heard Ilaro and Auchi are pretty good.

Besides, the founding mandate of both level of studies are also different. Obviously, Polytechnics have lost sight of their mandate. How else can you explain courses in social sciences and humanities being offered in Polytechnics.

Polytechnic programme leads to award of OND or HND as the case may be while university courses lead to award of Bachelor Degree, so why changing from HND to Bachelor Degree after undergoing Polytechnic education? How does that even make sense?

NUC has no business with HND holders. NUC only deals with Degree holders and not Diploma holders. HND is a diploma and not a Degree.
A Diploma is never same with a Degree anywhere in the world. Both serve different purposes.

HND is like school of applied sciences. Government shouldn’t have created universities of technologies, if it had wanted polytechnics to be stronger but you see people in edu ministry and those commissions, na envy and jealousy go kee dem.

The same way was how students started it in NYSC orientation camps in the 1980s and other places where Uni and HND graduates cross paths.

Went at JAMB 4 times, scores swinging from 180 to 230, but Unilorin never gave me a shot. It's one of those tough times in life. Watching peers with lesser skills make it while I was home felt like losing. I took a different path, joined Kwara Poly, and graduated with distinction.

Tried direct entry into Unilorin, but they slammed the door in my face AGAIN. Even friends with Upper Credit got through. I was in a cafe, seeing parents pulling strings for their kids' post-JAMB, and it hit me – it's about WHO you know, not WHAT you know.

I didn't have connections. My folks don't play politics, or lick people's asses and I got that from them.

I aced my HND with Upper Credit. I joined where I did my NYSC training, got hired right away. I've got skills I'm confident of. But when I seek better opportunities, even with my certs, it feels like I've wasted life. I'm starting to feel like a charity case at work. Lose this job, and I doubt I'd find the same pay. They're all about that BSc. I feel like a charity case, and it stings.

HND isn't always about not meeting entry requirements. You might not get it if you're not an HND holder. Nobody wants to be treated like a second-class citizen. The discrimination is real, and it's a mental battle.

HND is no longer relevant and should be scrapped.
Polytechnics should award OND.
Anyone who desires higher level of education should go to the University.
However, HND topup is far from absurd. Remember many universities in Nigeria offer HND topup with full approval of their respective senate

Very absurd. That's how some people deleted health science as a GCE subject some years back. A senseless development because that subject exposes students to the rudiments if the medical and health sciences taught at tertiary institutions

NB: Someone just corrected me that the PGD and MSc are no longer acceptable. I didn't go through that route as I got my own COREN with a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

1. The HND top up is illegal and that is what NUC is saying
2. Whoever told you that ND guys do better than regular university guys when they enter university is messing with your head. Most of them suffer what is called "academic shock" for two reasons. They find it very difficult to adapt to the new and higher standard of education

What is the business of NUC with any student that wants to acquire Bsc through topup? They do the same top up for HND holders by offering them so called "PGD" to be able to proceed for Msc, yet the pgd does not equate HND to Bsc in the field, as you need a Bsc to be a lecturer even in a polytechnic.

The only way HND holders can acquire Bsc in Nigeria is by going through jamb direct entry which is even very difficult to get where HND holder are made go through years of repetitive courses before getting Bsc. Even most of the PGD courses are repetitive as most of the courses have been done already while getting the HND certificate.

Now, some foreign university are offering a different route and requirement by which any one with an HND cert can be admitted and undergo the relevant top up courses in order to get a BSC cert and suddenly the NUC seeing their game is up are waking up and saying going for top up programs is absurd.

This is very hypocritical from the NUC and it shows they are intentionally subverting the HND holders as some private universities that came up with similar top up/ conversation programs were made to shut it down. You cannot put a stop to anyone that wants to further their education to be able to be on par with their colleagues in the field.
