True to some extent, but even then, phones are expensive.

My current phone cost me 33000 in 2019. Minimum wage was less than 20000 then.

Phones are high tech equipment with a lot of programmes, etc. All that adds up. Like for example, one of my former phones had a game that back in 1993 would have required a TV set, and a large boxlike controller with 2 large joysticks to play. The cost of minitaurising the tech needed to play the same game on a hand held device...yeah, it adds up.
You're right. My post is based on emerging trends in Nigeria right now. Exchange rate has rendered more people poorer.

I bought an electronic device in July this year for N275k. I visited the brand's page this morning to check the new price and I saw N435k. Same device, same brand, same website.

The rate at which mobile phones prices increases in Naija these days is alarming, every minute the price of a phone increases by #1 naira at least.

I remember when Infinix Note 30pro came out in May, it was around #175k but now it is around #300k, Itel S23+ came out in September at #148k and today it is around #189k by December it will surely be #200k if not more.

Any mobile or electronical gadget you think is expensive now, just wait to see the price in the next coming month.

God will see us through in the next 4yrs
Someone here said the dollar policy is to force us buy local made.

So guy go buy Nigeria phone.

Best option is to buy unknown brands as known brands are expensive like Pinephone , Fairphone etc.

They're more cheaper than known brands like Nokia , Infinix etc.

Nigeria happened to nigerians thanks to gullibly stupid electorates and incompetent corrupt political office holders.

Bigotry is not a good lifestyle...it's akin to living in a glass house and throwing stones.

Self denial/deceit won't change reality around you...your toxic stupidity won't reduce the price of $ollar which determines importation cost...

Wittyness.
The high cost of phones is simply because of the increasing dollar rate.

Sharap.

Our leaders are just like the followers.

They aren't all clueless but most are.

If the citizens don't find a way to produce products for local consumption or export, there's only so much the leaders can do, especially overnight.

Why people think there's a magic wand somewhere is baffling.
It's the duty of government to encourage and support local production. There's only so much individual citizens can do about it.

Also considering the US has over 300 million people, and all those countries above the US in the list, put together do not even reach 300 million. For sure the US has the most number of Iphone users. The level of Iphone craze in a poor country like Nigeria, with a very low purchasing power, is beyond me though. Even though majority are second hand devices.

Unfortunately, with very minimal exports and lack of industries that will attract investors (NO interest in the Naira), Nigeria has little control over the Naira slide against the dollar and other foreign currencies.

Acidosis:
True. Do you now agree that Nigerians are poor?

Check the share of iPhone users by country. Nigeria isn't even in top 50 as they don't count fairly used and stolen hacked iPhones from computer village.. Majority can't afford a brand new iPhone 13 or 14.

Statistics don't lie.

Sharap hypocrite.

I know your type.

You would complain about the judiciary for instance, but complain when Buhari attempted to cleanse the system.

You would complain about enabling environment as if you don't have a role to play in it.

As you are, I'm sure you are a heavy bribe giver.
hehehehe, what is the end result of buhari....... government has an important role to play to create that enabling for us to thrive, there is little we the citizens can do. Buhari failed miserably,no excuses for that man.

You're right about the population and the level of iphone crase in Nigeria. We saw the same trend in the days of blackberry. This trend has caused many to live above their means.

let's be realistic here, roughly 50% of Nigeria imports that needs dollars are consumed by refined oil products and plastics,if we have functional refineries not only will we slash the dollar needs for these two products but also another by product of oil refining which is fertilizer, people like me thinks that if the government cannot properly maintain our refineries which is now a matter of national security they don't have any business governing, bad and visionless leadership is the problem with Nigeria not the masses, and I doubt if any SME manager or factory manager in Nigeria today will make such comment you made

The Problem is with the Dollar-Naira Rate caused by Devaluation of Our Fuel Price.

Things will surely continue to be expensive in this country, sadly.
