Bro, I don't know if I'm qualified to reply because I'm your mate who's about to start 200lvl but I'll share the advice I was given.

What my seniors told me was that I should mainly use what's used in my school.

For gross anatomy now, it's Lasts and Vishram Singh. Our Anatomy lecturers bring out all their MCQs from Lasts Anatomy and it means I have to study the book well. For theory, Vishram Singh was recommended because it's outlined and easy to understand. So, if your lecturers or seniors swear by Keith Moore, use it. If it's Charusia, go for it. Even if you don't like the one recommended in your school, study the one you like and revise with the recommended ones when the exam is close.

You also have to understand what you're studying and that's where YouTube, Atlas, Google, AI, and some apps come in handy. I don't think anyone can pass or do well in Med school exams without understanding the core concepts.

Just try your best and also pass ur exam cos it's the true test of intelligence in med school, lol. 😅

For physiology, go for Sembulingam. You can also check Guyton and hall for some things.

For Biochemistry, Satanayaran and Chakrapani or Vasudevan will do.

For histology, I'll go with Indebir Singh.

For Embryology, it's Saddler or Indebir Singh.

Don't forget your lecture slides also, because you can even pass physiology and biochemistry(I said PASS o ) in my school with them but for distinctions, you need extra effort.

Another thing is to attend classes, participate by answering questions (it'll build your confidence for viva), attempt many past questions, form a study group, start studying this holiday, use atlas for anatomy, use mnemonics when necessary cos u won't have time in exam hall, know how to write fast and draw(for theory) and study hard.

Lastly, don't forget to pray. We're nothing without God. God will help us.

Great! I am an aspirant and I'd like to ask a few questions regarding admission into futa mbbs: First, can you grade futa's mbbs with your experience so far and how difficult do you think it is to gain admission into futa for mbbs?

Walking into 200L is like walking into another world. My advice will be to:
- get married to past questions
- find out from your seniors, what textbooks your lecturers use
- study during the holiday
- get a mentor
- utilise YouTube study videos
- and of course, don't miss practical attendance!.

Incase you want more, I've dropped 35 pieces of advice for 200L medics, if you've not seen it, please do. It will help you. cheesy

My experience in FUTA medical school has been awesome and quite interesting. They are moving at a fast pace in becoming a recognised medical school. The school has not stopped working in ensuring that MBBS get full accreditation soon. That's what I can say for now.

Regarding admission, it is not that easy to get Medicine in FUTA. During my time, about 2617 people applied but only 45 students were picked. Even during the 2021 set, only 23 students were picked and only about 25 students were picked during the 2022 set.

This is not to scare you but to let you know that medicine is not easy to get anywhere. Nothing is impossible to achieve as long as you put your mind to it.

I had 318 in UTME and 88/100 in the Post UTME.

FUTA will be using screening this year. You have a very good Jamb score.

How is your O'level result like?

I used two sittings. Selecting the best, I have: mat-a1 phy-a1 chem-a1 bio-a1 eng-b3. But I'm not sure whether it will be done this way or an average of the two sittings will be used. Do you have any idea how the olevel is calculated?

I will advise u to try some of the well established universities with better quota. If truly FUTA is picking below 50 for their mbbs admission then to gain admission will be very difficult even with ur utme score. Professors will add their own, VC will also add his own not to talk of important personalities in the society. Try school like UI that their admission is very open. Wish u all the best.

Then your medical school is not complete. All this Uni ilorin self. No wonder you have all this time on line. Dental student do housemaship,is even harder than medicine. While medical students do majorly 3 courses in preclinical dental do 5. Addition are oral anatomy, and oral physiology. If you can survive as dental student in Ife then you can survive any where in the world.
lmao, calm down chief. Life as a dental HO is much more chill than being a medical HO. life was hard in dental school sha but not necessarily because of the workload - it was definitely alot - but the people. this is a very very old message by the way, allow this stuff to rest.

Using last year modality, your aggregate is 79.92. This is good enough to secure you admission. Though I don't know how it is calculated for two sittings.

Aggregate is calculated thus:
A1 - 80, B2 - 72, B3 - 67, C4 - 62, C5 - 57, C6 - 52
O'level score = Total/5
O'level screening result = O'level score/100 × 30
UTME screening result = UTME score/400 × 70
Aggregate = O'level screening result + UTME screening result

FUTA admission is transparent, at least for Medicine I can say that because I know the nitty gritty of the MBBS admission. FUTA admission is purely based on merit, catchment areas and ELDS. There is nothing like VC list, Professors' list, important personalities' list here. You might have said this as a result of your experience with some schools. But you can't just judge every school that way. FUTA admission process is transparent to a reasonable extent. If you are still not satisfied with my reply, you can make your findings.

The only problem is just the small number of people that are admitted yearly which is not up to 50.

Using that modality, it doesn't sum up to 100. What do you feel about this?

[quote author=horpeyemmi66 post=126550200]Even if you have A1 in Geography at WAEC, it is not enough reason to say you want to study Geology.

Based on anecdotal evidence, Geology is a course with a significant amount of calculations related courses and even the bright ones end up with carryovers here and there.

Geology is not a bad course in itself, however, asides divine connection, you don't land a job in that sector just with a BSc. The more reason why you see a ton of BSc holders going back to get MScs, this is when you can begin to actually say you're onto something in the field.

This is Nigeria, count your teeth with your tongue. In essence, where do you see yourself realistically in 6 years and how do you intend to get there.

Nothing comes easy, Physiotherapy is a course where you can almost chart the direction of life after graduation. This is not to say it's better than Geology but at least you know where you'd be post-graduation. And as with Geology, studying Physiotherapy isn't a walk in the park.

I hope you are able to pick one or two things from this poorly arranged response.

Good luck.[ Thanks bro for your response. I'm also considering another course which is Environmental management and toxicology, do you know anything about it. Would appreciate your response, bro ]

Please i need some advise here. I have a 16year old relation who got 65 aggregate for Uniben Medicine. She is from Edo.

Iam looking at some options for her.

(1) Retake JAMB next year.

(2) Take any 4year science course and try to switch to Medicine in 200Lvl. What 4year science will be appropriate for this?.

(3) If (2) is not possible, complete the 4year course and use it to gain entry to 200Lvl Medicine.

Please urgent replies are needed as she has been crying as the PUTME result was a great shock. There was total chaos in Uniben PUTME this year especially for those that wrote on the first day. Some students even fainted.
Goodday All,

A quick update on this issue.

She is being transferred to Physiotherapy. Is Physiotherapy a Medical course or a Science course?. What are your thoughts?. To Accept or to Reject?.
