Depends
If your itinerary passes through a European country then you may need a transit visa

You don finally confuse this local man grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Check the flight pattern to your destination
Where will it take you to before it gets to the UK
If Ethiopia is the only country then you're fine
If it's Ethiopia and another country in Europe before the UK then you would likely need transit visa for that country

Hello everyone,

I’m about to apply for a standard UK visitor visa for my wife. We plan on traveling together over the holidays, but my wife was refused a visa when we applied earlier this year. I already had a 2 year visa which was granted in 2022 by the time we applied for her visa.

She was refused because the clearance officer felt her monthly income (N450,000) was too little to pay for the expected cost of the trip (N800,000) even though she had about 12k USD in her personal dom accounts. This was also even though we had put that I (as her husband) would sponsor the entirety of her trip and I had enough income (N1.5M per month) and savings (25k USD) to cover the costs.

Can any visa gurus advise on the best way going forward to avoid another refusal. Please note we later applied for a France Schengen visa a few weeks after her refusal and were granted the visa so it’s quite confusing why the UK denied her.

Thanks a lot!

Firstly, UK visas are not granted because of "FAT" account balances alone.

here are a few things to consider

1. Make sure all details are correctly filled , Don't falsify any record . also don't bloat any figure to impress the Visa officer

2. Make sure the employment or business of the applicant is clearly stated (Proof of employment or business is VITAL)

3. proof of marriage is also important

4. For your account statement , If possible submit her Salary Account labelled salary account and also submit her other savings account if she has two

5. If you have property in your names it's a good way to prove ties

6. If she is employed , she needs a leave letter to show she isn't just leaving work and resuming anytime she wills

7. write a letter of introduction to state purpose of trip , where you will be staying and what you would be doing in the UK for the period

8. Make the account statements at least 4 months old , i recommend 6 months

9. Reserve Accommodation ( you don't have to pay for the accommodation ) Accommodation reservation is key except you would be staying with family and friends

10. Don't just move funds to your accounts without properly explaining where the money is coming from.

I will encourage you to try again if all you stated here are true.
Do you have kids?
Did you explain the purpose of this trip in a cover letter and provide a detailed itinerary?

If you are self-employed and the company is registered, make sure you show the "details of particulars page " on the CAC documents confirming that you are the only signatory to the account

Do you pay yourself a monthly salary or do you spend directly from your company account?

do you have a personal savings account or do you have all funds in your company account

how much is your total cost of the trip for the entire family?
the total sum you have budgeted for the trip is the same amount you should input as amount you are paying for the trip

Hello everyone!
Please, I applied for my son under the Skilled Worker visa, which the application was successful but the expiry date is different from mine, the main applicant. My son's expiry date is 16 August 2025 while mine is 05 November 2026. Please how do I rectify it as my son should have the same date as me the main applicant which is 05 November 2026. Thank you!

Hello, thanks for your response.

We don’t have kids and we did indeed provide a detailed itinerary in our cover letter, also clearly stating that I would be the sole sponsor of our trip and she was still denied based on her monthly income not being sufficient for the trip. It felt like they didn’t bother reviewing her sponsor’s (me) documentation at all since they made no reference to my documents or any other factor in the denial except her own monthly income.

Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by Trydifferentjok: 11:23am On Nov 07, 2023
Hello, thanks for the detailed reponse.

1. There were no false records, with everything correctly input. No bloating of figures, and no large sudden deposits

2. Proof of employment was provided via an introduction letter from her employer (a bank)

3. Proof of marriage was included (marriage certificate)

4. Her salary account as well as savings and USD account was provided (no large sudden deposits)

5. We don’t own any properties unfortunately

6. The introduction letter didn’t include her exact leave details and travel dates. However neither did mine and I was given the visa last year, and this wasn’t mentioned as a reason for refusal in her refusal letter.

7. This letter was provided with detailed itinerary

8. 6 months statements were provided from hers as well as my accounts

9. Accommodation reservation was provided via a travel agent, the same agent I had used last year for my own visa

10. There was no movement of funds into the account she provided (she uses another account for piggyvest, other investments and general expenditures)

This is why it was so confusing why she was denied, especially the exact reason given (her personal monthly income [450k monthly] was not sufficient to cover the cost of stay in the country [850k] even though we clearly stated that I was the sole sponsor of our trip).

what is the expiry date of the other parent’s visa? if it is shorter duration then the dependent child would be given the duration of the parent with the nearer expiring visa.
If the above doesn’t apply to you, then you should report it

the visa would be given based on her circumstances and not on yours the sponsor…
You have refused to post the refusal letter, writing long statements without us seeing it can not help you.
Also introduction letter must contain basic information if it is for leave including travel dates etc, that you got away with it does not counter that this is needed
Then her monthly income been 450k does not mean that is her disposable income. Monthly income and disposable income are not the same. Visa officer works with the latter figure.
Lastly it would help if you do not use your granted visa as a yardstick for the visa officer to give her a visa because it is not.
You need to know exactly what your wife’s ties are especially as there are no children, no assets and she can’t afford the holiday.
I bet there’s no travel history as well.
Look for what would convince the visa officer cus on a balance of probabilities you already have a long term visa. Both of you can as well elope to the UK and seek asylum and continue your life there. ECO is been smart here and not to grant her because she has not proven beyond all reasonable doubts why she would return.

ALERT.

Visit visas for 2 family members
Biometrics same day October 20th(standard applications)
Abuja TLS.
Collection November 2nd with visas stamped.

As they are both youngsters- 22 and 24 and not in employment, with surface ties and only coming for a holiday and would definitely go back, I took extra diligence than my usual to prove beyond all reasonable doubts that they would return and glad it was a success. They are also 1st time travellers.
This has now birthed in me a new spur to take this visa ‘consultancy’ more seriously .
Donations are now welcomed via paypal or local transfer. Thanks guys cheesy

I see no strong ties to your home country in ur application. Instead the Visa officer used ur wife as home ties by denying her. There are no kids (in boarding school maybe), no properties and no private running business even with the fat balances. The officer feels its easy for you guys to loose guard in the uk with ur acct balances. Also there has to be a leave letter from her employer as well.

Hello gurus in the house, my mum is going for her biometrics in pH on Thursday. What documents those she need to take to the center after self service uploading of her docs. From what I have read here
1 passport
2 copy of passport data page
3 email confirmation from tls
4 first page of visa application form
Please does she still need to go with downloaded checklist or any other documents not listed above?

Hello!

Does TLS follow the Appointment Time? Also, the portal is forcing their Primetime and Premium Lounge services on me.

Is there a way to go around it? or I just have to pick one.

Thank you
