Oga, just yesterday, I heard my recently widowed mama telling someone on the phone, that he knows her current situation and yet, to return her money, he has refused. She gave me the phone to speak with him.
Apparently, the fellow is a butcher, over 1 year ago his asked her for 50k to go to market that he will return it in 1 week. Till today, nothing.
On speaking with him, he said after that 1 week his child was ill so went to hospital, so he could not pay, 1 year later he still has not paid. I asked him if it was bank he took the money from with interest, and collateral, will he be telling such bullshit story.
Anyway, I told my mama to forget the money, if he brings it, OK if not, she should look ahead, or last last, I give her.
Never loan anybody money in naija if you want to live long.
Exactly...don't loan Nigerians money even if they are dying of hunger... just look away.

My own case worse , the guy I borrowed money began to even threaten me after he failed to pay back...just imagine the audacity.

This is someone that came to beg me for 15k with watery eyes.

9ja na cruise.

From a borrower who borrowed money with no plan of paying back, to an unregistered loan shark company who resulted to an unethical approach of declaring their debtor dead on social media and thereafter came back begging the said 'dead' debtor to pay her debt.

I initially thought that once the loan sharks adopt such approach, it means they have willingly written off the loan. I never knew that they still expect their debtor to pay them after disgracing them.

9ja my country!
Nigerians need to stop this fraudulent attitude we always display, loan people don't force people, y on earth would u go and take a loan from a company that u have no intentions of paying.

This is also the reason y nobody helps anybody in Nigeria, lend money to people they would refuse to pay u back, just last 3 months I lent money to someone to pay back in 2 weeks, when the 2 weeks came the person started posting me, posting me, as time went on the person stopped picking my calls, after some weeks I went to their place and they parked out.

What do u call this level of fraudulent criminal mindset that NIGERIANs display?

Anyone born and bred in Nigeria knows fully well that an average Nigerian always find it difficult to pay what he or she borrowed. If you must lend a friend money, it has to be what you can afford to lose. That's the bitter truth in Nigeria

Loan apps borrowing Nigerians money are dumb Sha...

Wetin fit Nigerians na to set up Betting companies like bet9ja and co... collect dia money.

Loan apps go dey mumu dey give Nigerians money, heartless set of humans who never pay back money .

I'm talking from experience, will never forget how I borrowed my neighbor 15k last year, claiming his mother was sick BLA BLA BLA ...

Time to pay back my money reach, this guy was changing it for me , telling me why am I disturbing him for 'common 15k'... since then,I made a convenant with God that I will never in this life lend out money.
Nigerians are bad with loan repayment but these loan shark companies are still making profit with their hyper interest rates. If not dey for don close down since.

This is how it works:

Example with capital of 100k, gives 10 people loan of 10k each to payback 16k in 7days or 22k in 14days. If after 14days 5 individuals defaulted and only 5 persons repaid the loan, you're still at profit of 10k. Imagine when there capital is 100m, the profit will be 10m. This is why they're still in business because not all Nigerians are bad.

Drove them to what desperation? Those guys don't give a fxxk, once you default for just a day... That's how the behave. Worse is if you plead with them to give a day or 2 to pay back, Agent-A will say "Okay", an hour later a different agent will call threatening you. Do you know how piss you'll be if you experience such?

They gave you 10k and expect you to pay 17k back in 7 days, isn't that a crime on his own?

They are desperate criminals, how do you give someone 10k and expect the person to pay back 17k in 7 days time? is that logically possible? If I have a means of seeing 17k within seven days, will I bother taking a loan? is simple logic.

That obituary one is going too far though.
One guy I knew, I suddenly got his obituary. I called his close friend who was shocked too. Later he called be that his friend was alive and well, that it's was loan app people. That his paddy was in the habit of taking money and not paying.
Guess what, next call I got few weeks later (don't think it was months), the guy died!
He was found in his appartmemt dead.

If the family of the guy takes it up, the loan company can be sued for this and they will definitely win. Declaring the obituary of someone who is still alive means a lot. It could also be that this act led to the guy probably committing suicide.

This is indeed a sad one. Many young people still resort to borrowing from loan apps without an adequate plan on how to utilize the money for profit. I wish young people knew they could start a small business with just #10,000.

The truth is that starting a business in Nigeria with a capital of 10k may seem challenging, but it is certainly feasible. Numerous lucrative business ventures can be initiated with this modest amount of money. The key is to select a business that aligns with your passion and caters to strong market demand.

I have compiled the top 10 most profitable businesses to start with 10k in Nigeria in 2023. Whether you are a first-time entrepreneur or looking to diversify your business portfolio, these business ideas will provide you with various options.

undecided

U are the one thats funny cos u have lost all reason.... oh , u feel failing to pay back loans isn't right ...but operating illegally and avoiding tax is right .... u feel feeding on desperate people is right , they should not run a business by adopting that sort of approach ...acting like that is totally illegal ...its not by force to run a loan app... if they can't find a legal means to recover their funds, then they should shut down that business

Thanks for at least throwing some light into this issue. If you decide to run a loan company you should also be ready for the occupational hazard which is debt default by customers and as such put legals means in place like insurance for all bad debts. Its all part and parcel of the business. You can't have your cake and eat it.
These loan companies or app do their businesses illegally and by that I mean absurd interest rate, not obeying the countries financial or monetary policies and worse of all been exploitative. But you still want customers not to default or run away with your money when you operate a dubious business. These companies just take advantage of the lawlessness of the country and do whatever they afterall the govt in Nigeria isn't there to protect the citizens .
For those of you that want to quote me that the loan seekers took the loan without the intention of paying .... let me tell u , a serious loan company does it screening and verification before giving out loans, and even when customers default there are legal systems of money recovery if you have done the right thing before starting your company.

Bro let's not justify such acts, remember life threats everyone differently. 1k might not be nothing to you, but there are people 1k to them seems like 1 billion. There are people that once they call one or 2 persons in their contacts for urgency/help, they'll get positive respond shortly and there are people who can call 100 people in their contacts with no hope.
Don't pray life to happen to you, a man dying of thirst and in desperate need for water will do/sign to quench his thirst.

At bolded why do you think that is?

The loan apps have been abused by Nigerians. Truth is we are only seeing our interpersonal behaviours online because the apps now publicly declare debtors.

Reading through this thread you'll notice that many people have sworn of borrowing anybody money including myself because they always fail to pay back. Always.

Why is that? These people collect interst free loans with a time limit and fail to pay back. If you ask me for loan now I'll simply direct the person to loan app. Particularly if they swear to pay back in one week.

Sweetheart, you are right, a dead man can't pay loan. These loan companies do the most, charge 40% weekly and have the most uncultured customer service people.
