The Nigeria Labour Congress at a Joint National Executive Council (NEC) of NLC and TUC directed all affiliate Unions to commence withdrawal of services with effect from 12:00 midnight today 13th November, 2023.

As an affiliate of NLC, all members of our union are hereby directed to join this action of NLC to protect the interest of Nigerian workers and the Leadership of the Union.

Zonal Coordinators and Branch Chairpersons should immediately mobilize our members to participate in the action.

I bring you warm and fraternal greetings from the National Secretariat of our great Union -SSANU.

I arn directed by the National President on behalf of the National Administrative Committee (NAC) to convey to you that you are to lead your Branch to comply in
furtherance with the decision reached at the joint emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)/Trade Union Congress (TUC) held today Monday 13th November, 2023 that all workers in Nigeria should withdraw their services effective 12:00 midnight today, 13th

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria will commence a nationwide strike by midnight on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

The nationwide strike is coming on the backdrop of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) joint National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, directing its affiliate unions to embark on immediate withdrawal of services and to shut down Imo State by all public and private sector workers indefinitely by midnight of November 7, 2023.

This decision by the NLC and TUC is prompted by a series of infractions and encroachments on the rights of workers in Imo State and the distressing and appalling acts of violence and bloodshed inflicted upon the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and other unions’ officials by the Imo State Government in collaboration with the Nigerian Police and Imo State Command.

The joint communiqué signed by Comrade (Prince) Dr Adewale Adeyanju, President-General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), who doubles as Deputy President of NLC with Comrade Festus Osifo, President of TUC, further directs that in the event that ‘Labours’ demands are unmet, workers all over the Federation shall join in withdrawing their services by midnight on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, as an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress, has directed that all members of the union comply with the jointly signed communique to commence immediate and total mobilisation to ensure MWUN participation in the nationwide strike on Tuesday, November 14th, 2023 is complied with indefinitely.

NOTICE TO COMMENCE INDEFINITE STRIKE ACTION: DIRECTIVE FOR TOTAL COMPLIANCE
Furtherance to the earlier resolutions of the joint emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress
held on Tuesday, 7th November, 2023, and subsequent zoom meeting of NLC National Executive Committee held today, 13h November, 2023, I have been directed by the National Leadership of the Union to direct you to immediately mobilise our members in your State Council to commence indefinite strike action from mid-night of Tuesday, 14th November, 2023.

This action is due to Government failure to address the demands of the Organized Labour over the abduction and brutallsation of the NLC President and other Labour
Leaders by the Imo state sponsored thugs during a peaceful protest against the anti-Workers policy of the State Government and Federal Government failure to
fully implement the Memorandum of Understanding it signed with the Organized Labour to cushion the harsh economic effects of the fuel subsidy removal, which
expired on 31 October, 2023.

You are therefore, requested to ensure strict compliance to this directive without fail and update the National Secretariat on your level of participation in this
struggle,. please.

MOBILIZATION FOR INDEFINITE NATIONWIDE STRIKE

With Reference to NLC NEC meeting of today: 13th November 2023 and the Joint Cormunique from NLC and TUC dated 7th Novernber 2023 on nationwide withdrawal of service on 14th November 2023 if the Government refused to address the issues raised from the shortfall of the atrocious event in Imo State on the 1st of November 2023, we affirm that the nationwide strike will commence as stipulated on Tuesday 14ty November 2023.

To this effect all National, State and Chapter executives are requested to start the mobilisation of our members in total compliance with this directive.
