IWanLook:
The team's overall performance was commendable, but it's evident that luck wasn't on our side for this match. It's unrealistic to expect a complete domination against Lesotho, . The current lineup includes defenders from the English Championship and midfielders who often warm the bench in the Premier League, making their impact questionable. Notably, players like Boniface and Awoniyi have been struggling to score consistently.

In comparison, Lesotho seems to have better-prepared players who have experience in top South African leagues. While some may argue that the South African league may not be considered top-tier, the match demonstrated their skills and preparedness. It's crucial to acknowledge that football is unpredictable, as seen in Italy's loss to Macedonia. We should abandon the notion of superiority and recognize that every team, regardless of their status, poses a challenge in an eleven-versus-eleven scenario.
so in essence what are you saying?

I really do not think we have that many good players. A lot of people are expecting wonders. How many good coaches would want to coach Nigeria?
We are always sacking coaches but the common denominators are our players.
Sack JP and employ who?
Do we have the funds to hire a grade A coach .
Do we have the players that can execute the ideology of such a coach.
We need to face reality and stop living on past glory. Team is average at best.
A few good players here and there but no spine in the team.
Lower your expectations!!!
You just contradicted yourself with your funny post.

If a team has no spine then what does that imply? who's duty is it to work out a quality squad?

Unless you're trying to tell us we that we don't have the players.

My Player Ratings

Bright Osayi-Samuel
Was easily one of the most business-like players especially in the first half. Had a deadly combination with Alex Iwobi but failed to score from a tight angle. He was more active in advanced positions, due to the opponents posing little threat from his side of the flank. His presence seemed to wane as the match progressed. 5/10

Ademola Lookman
For me he worked his socks for the entire duration he was on the pitch. Probably the player with the most scoring chances but was not productive in the grand scheme of things, no thanks to the Lesotho goalie. On one occasion Lookman, after finding space, picked a spot from a wide angle but the Lesotho captain was quick to react. His decision making was suspect other occasions. 5/10

Taiwo Awoniyi
He seemed out of the game right from kick off, and was largely anonymous until a glorious chance fell at his feet. A game to forget for a player who is not back to tip top form in the EPL. His miss will be likened to Yakubu's famous WC blunder for a long time to come. 3/10

Victor Boniface
Seemed a little clumsy at times always looking to try a skill or two to bit his marker. He needs to be more adventurous and quick at goal like his namesake. He probably should take more chances. Overall an average game for his link up play. 5/10

Alex Iwobi
Arguably the best Nigerian on the pitch due to his work rate and attempts to exploit gaps from the midfield to find his teammates upfront. He covered grounds but his influence was not felt enough. 6/10

Semi Ajayi
He cannot be single handedly blamed for the loss of concentration in defense that led to the Lesotho goal. He always showed up in corner kick situations to position himself for a header, one of which paid off to draw Nigeria level (his first for Nigeria). He gets the highest rating for saving the day. 6.5/10

Frank Onyeka
On this day, Onyeka was not imposing in midfield. It's hard to figure out exactly what he brought to this game 4/10

Kelechi Iheanacho
Was always looking to deliver crosses to forward positions. Was the better free kick taker, and showed his prowess in dead ball situations with his pin-point assist from the corner spot. He should have killed the game in the later stages, from long range something he is known for, but was not fast enough to fire a nice pass from Boniface. Performed to standard but failed to score. 6/10

Jamiliu Collins
Collins did not look like he has not been capped by Nigeria in a while. He fitted just right in and had one or two goal threatening chances. Combined well with Lookman. Not a bad game. 5/10

Calvin Bassey
Did a job or two, and pushed forward often times to help. Could not do much to redeem the situation. Gets a low rating for poor concentration at times at the rear. 4/10

Francis Uzoho
Came ready to not to repeat a howler. Did well to make a few saves. Did a job and was not at fault for the goal conceded. Another mistake waiting to happen? 5/10

Subs
Moses Simon
He replaced Lookman and immediately brought something different to the game. He was more calm and seemed like he had a plan. However, his plan did not pay off. He could not create big chances for the strikers. He could have done better in dead ball situations. 5/10

Terrem Moffi
Was met with his back to goal on a few occasions. But other than linking with his teammate, he did not provide any answers in the front line. 4/10

Bruno Onyaemachi
For the time he lasted he seemed more withdrawn to midfield and was rarely operating in the flanks. Besides combining well with his teamates he did not offer much in the relatively short time on the pitch.

Joe Aribo
He had a half chance after replacing Onyeka, but could not connect a header. Unrated due to short time on the pitch.

Ola Aina
Spent about 10 minutes on the pitch after coming in for Osayi-Samuel. Unrated

Some of you are so CLUELESS about football that you ought to be BANNED from posting. You do nothing but reduce the quality of the discussion on this forum. So because that team drew with Athletic Madrid, in a MEANINGLESS friendly game, that one performance suddenly made them the best crops of players to represent Nigeria?

Have you ever been anywhere near the four walls of a soccer pitch? Do you even understand the difference between a real game and a meaningless scrimmage

Dumber plus dumber 🙄

O pari

Barryseal:
At the risk of being called a revisionist, I believe that team which played Athletico Madrid in Uyo should have formed the bedrock of the national team going forward.

Had we built on that team we would have become the best team in Africa.
I had this revelation immediately after tonight's game and decided to put it out.

I support this idea.
This thread can form a force that can effect a positive change in our football.
We must not stand aside and watch everything about Nigeria colapse.
We can use the power of social media to our advantage and that might be the beginning of a new era in Nigeria.
The committee must write to the NFF immediately and extend the same letter to the ministry of sports. In proffering a solution, we should suggest 5 competent coaches from Nigeria and abroad.

This is our only country, this is the only thing that unites us. This is our major source of joy and pride as a Nation.
We must get involved!
Jpes must go NOW!
.

Baba Walahi konibaje. I support this 100%. We must not fold our hands now dat it is very glaring Jpajero is clueless when it comes to tactical nous. IT SHALL NO BE WELL WITH JPAJERO AND EVERYONE WHO REAPPOINTED HIM

I don’t watch foreign leagues but my kid brother does and he helped me play those belt that keeps body and soul together.

However the only team I do watch as a patriotic Nigerian is d SE but unfortunately politicians and greedy envelope induced journalists are destroying what is left of my NT. Why can’t we have another scribe like Sani Toro, chairman like Late air comm. Omeruo as my elder broda would say.

Methinks the committee needs to start an ashtag sackpajero now on all social media. Enough of this madness, as I am typing this, nightmares about the match has not allow me sleep.

It calls for a new mentality. Only a serious coach can instill that. Nigeria has lots of players. We need to open the door for stiff competition.

Shun that silly talk of meaningless friendlies. We've been playing scrimmage and meaningless friendlies ever since. The last was against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique and this same team huffed and puffed all the way.

You keep getting embarrassed every now and then by little African countries but Big-time Charly like you think it's beneath us having a balanced team with players in playing in smaller leagues.

Come and play world cup make I see na.

This team has had Amodu, keshi, siasia, eguavoen, laagaback, Rohr, Vogts, salisu, Amokachi, Peseiro and it’s always the same result with the exception of “keshi 2013” I’m pretty sure that, hiring mourinho, wenger or pep will not provide us Joy. The clear denominator in this case is the Fans and players. The fans have exaggerated the player’s capabilities and always have unreasonable expectations while the players aren’t as good as the fans believe they’re Good. It’s time for everyone to just accept reality. Just enjoy your average team without unreasonable expectations and you go Dey Ok
