She just said it so that both family will know that you are getting married. Court marriage is funny. Do you know that many people get married in court without telling their parent ?….. During counseling, they will tell you that hope ya family know about the marriage ?, wife, tell your husband to pay your price oooo nd must prostrate for your family for taking care of you.

That doesn’t stop your court wedding. But doing counseling, they will advice you in-line with both religion nd traditional.

Try nd attend counseling. Very funny part of the court wedding.

Were any of those in those counseling sessions speaking on behalf of the courts or were they speaking as the other woman "in her own traditional way"?

By the way, people have a right to choose to keep the news of their marriage from family and friends. It is their right to do so and there is nothing wrong with that.

Mention one place on the continent where if both parties want to get legally married that a bride price is required. LEGALLY married. None. In Nigeria, I don't need to pay a dowry to be legally married.

Marriage by nature is cultural. However, in order to 'formalize' it, most people file papers at the registry after the traditional and church marriage. Two people without family consent and blessing approaching a court to wed them will be recognized by the govt but will not be recognized by the society as a couple and this is what matters as far as marriage is concerned.

Which Ministry? I like to remind those that their marriage legally begins from the time it was registered in the courts and not when they supposedly paid the bride price.

I don't know where you are from but here in igboland they don't joke with bride price, it is important and will be talked about for ages. Your children could be regarded as outcast to the extended family too.

But if you get a very understanding family that agree to court marriage only then no issue as they have the right to wave it or make it very affordable even down to just #50 so you will have no issues.

My community here in Enugu will most times say bring #100,000 and when it is presented they will take only one note from the whole money and return the rest to the groom's family. They will tell you that there daughter is not for sale and if maltreated they will take her back.

If the family insist on bride price please do not force your way through with the court marriage as it could be risky, the tussle is not worth it.

but in imo state they do sale their daughter's with huge sums of bride prizes and expect the man to build house for his in-law

This is not correct. You can do court wedding without paying bride price. Infact when i did mine, only 2 of my friends were present to sign as witness. Our parents were absent because we felt it was unnecessary but for them to travel down.

However, bride price /traditional wedding is what our culture recognize. It has to do with recognition of the couples by the families. It's the most important as far as nigerian families are concerned. You may be deprived of certain traditional benefits if you're not traditionally married. Although those benefits will not prevent you from living your normal lives.

If you are a fan of African traditional culture, then you need to do it to promote the culture

I did this cos I impregnated her 2 years ago and they forced me to marry her by going to the registry after introduction,and I did not pay her bride price,I regret doing this because they disrespect me now and it’s a very shameful thing.

Bride price is not compulsory in court, nothing like bride price. But endeavors to pay. Pay ya bride price. No free pussy. The higher % of people that run away bride prices maltreat their wife
