So access bank with all the acquisition is still below 700bn yet they will be bragging that they are the biggest bank in Nigeria. Capitalization and not assets or customer base is the best metrics to judge how strong a bank is. Investors who have good knowledge of the industry know which bank stocks to buy which is directly reflected in Thier stock market capitalization. Zenith GTB and Stanbic IBTC are the strongest banks in Nigeria. This recapitalization is very good and will help reposition our financial institutions.

It is too early to exhibit much ignorance with audacious gusto.

Who told you market capitalisation and not asset.is.the best metric to judge the strength of banks in Nigeria?

Who told you STANBIC is part of the three strongest banks in Nigeria?

Beware of the Nigerian stock market. The frenzy will soon start as it was about 20 years ago. People who invested in IPOs, banks and insurance stock became scammed. By 2008, those stocks were useless. Up till now many banks have not returned to their earlier bloated stock prices.

We are back on the same circle. Just beware. Soon stock market will start rising and making unsubstantiated gains to attract investors. It is a financial scam.

God bless you. Dangote and Zenith Bank. Biggest scam. Imagine stock prices of 2007 have not been reattained inspite of the year to year profit earnings they report

These things you are doing, they re not helping the common man arrest immediate hunger challenge. The other we saw a lecturer with doctorate degree who has a nice car fighting for petrol with haggard okada men in petrol station, simply because he could no longer fuel his car so he started using his old bike to commute. Now even the old small bike, he can't fuel it in peace.

Reduce fuel price and ease stress and pain on the masses and stop all these bogus things you are saying on the news that nobody can relate with

See this dumbo calling FUGAZ without knowing what it really means. Let me school u cos I know ur kind who tend to disguise Thier cluelessness by mentioning something they don't understand. FUGAZ is just an acronym for banks to big to fail. Too big too fail in the sense that they account for 60% of deposit as well as profit in the industry. If any of them were to fail CBN must step in cos of Thier spiral effect on the economy. Thats where it ends. The strength of a financial institution is in its capital adequacy ratio. It shows how much capital a bank has in respect to it's risk. This is the stress test use to determine how solvent a bank is. Why do u think cbn is pushing for recapitalization? Why is cbn not telling banks to grow deposit or increase customer base. Those are not metrics for judging strength of a bank. Capital base is which shows investor believe in a bank is what determines the strength of a bank. Google the top banks that attracted foreign investment YTD and tell me how many FUGAZ bank is on the list.

You took time to try and explain what FUGAZ is but could you explain why your dear STANBIC that is amongst the top three banks in Nigeria isn't amongst them despite the qualities of FUGAZ.

I did not know FUGAZ. Wonderful!
You want to school me? That is typical on Nairaland.

What them is the relationship between the capital adequacy and capitalisation?

Before buying stocks, do some research.

Secondly, do not buy banking stocks as long-term investments if you are not aiming to own a significant percentage of the company.

Third point, get a legally licensed stock broker who can help you deal in shares when you make the decision to start investing in the Stock Market.

Fourth point, like the second point states, your job is to buy low and sell high.

There will always be losers and winners.

Knowing what to do and what is really happening helps you to position yourself.

Oga, you are the ignorant one here. Stanbic IBTC is an international bank. They do not need recapitalisation, they are backed by their SA parent money.

So they cannot be on the list of your so called "FUGAZ" in Nigeria.

So an international bank in insulated and exempted if there is the need for recapitulation. Wonderful!

Did I ever mentioned that STANBIC needed recapitulation? Stupid!

What is FUGAZ and why can't or what stops STANBIC from belonging there is they are qualified to be there?

Go through the thread once again and read where someone explained FUGAZ for ignorant once like you. Take the time too to search for the comment where someone explained the criteria for FUGAZ.

I will excuse you for jumping on something you know little about because it is customary on Nairaland.
