The solution is not skyrocket science, it is just to have at least 30% interest of the people at heart. Increase the salaries of all health workers, good benefits, huge pension and gratuity. Foolish people

So you actually believe that LUTH will lock five 150-bed wards, as in 750 beds? How many bed-capacity is the whole LUTH itself when you can ignorantly believe that 750 beds are unoccupied and locked? Smh.

With your kind of negativity and ignorance which you think is cool, many of you will never be blessed by this land. All you do is give negative mindset and the land will reflect it back to you.
kindly read below, stop rushing to type

We saw significant problems here. Right now, there are about five wards in LUTH, totalling about 150 beds

A state of emergency should be declared on major the health sector undecided . Nigeria's medical studies are the cheapest in the world, the government spends a lot of funds to train these ppl to be one of the best and after a few years in service, they jakpa even though they are one of the highest-paid professionals because no Medical doctor earns below 250k as we speak.
My verdict is this no medical doctor should be allowed out of this country until after 10yrs of service.
As for the government we should empower our traditional medical care, traditional medical doctors can be of good service. Public officers and politicians foreign medical trips should also be discouraged because the money used for foreign medical trips can also be used to create a good working conditions for health workers
North Korean mode should be activated to curtail this nonsense cool

Hope you are not among the illiterates he is talking about? How does this statement amount to 750 beds? "Five wards comprising 150 beds have been shut down" Five wards comprising 150 beds means 30 beds per ward.

There are still doctors here in Nigeria available for immediate employment.

U don't get the point, do u?
Even if jobs plenty for Port Harcourt or borno or Ibadan or wherever we no dey go.

U know why?

I cannot be doing the work of 30 people.

If u like pay me 500k per month, I still won't work in a teaching hospital where I will have 40 patients to do rounds for in the morning before my consultant shows up by 9am

I don't have issue with people relocating, but I'm so angry with the Nigeria Govt.

Nigeria heavily subsidized the doctors training, only for the doctors to relocate after few years of practice.

Why don't you make them sign an undertaking to recoup the cost of your investment with interest before you can sign any documents that they will need to relocate.

As it is, taxpayers are training the doctors for free for these foreign countries.

Is that not stupidity?

Frizz001:
Are you then saying the House of Reps Chairman of the Committee is lying or uninformed? Do you have any factual basis for your outright disagreement with the House of Reps that exercises oversight of the health sector? Has LUTH come out to say the position is untrue or have you verified that there are no 5 wards shut down in LUTH due to lack of medical personnel? It is clearly stated in the news that the Health Committee undertook an oversight visit to LUTH and came up with these findings. Have you done same and had a different result?

Assuming, without conceding, that your assertion is correct, why then am I not seeing some outrage from you against the House of Reps Chair of the Committee for speaking such falsehood and misleading the people? Why do you rather attack one who has reacted to the news and instead accuse the person of being negative and therefore not entitled to the blessings of the land?

Either way, there is evident failure of government/governance so why are you unable to criticize the government for its lapses?

You are taking that political jobber seriously?

For the fact that he mentioned 750 beds in his rebuttal is a testament to the fact that he is just programmed to attack anyone that makes a comment that is critical of the government he is paid to defend.
The report said 5 wards totalling 150 beds, he decided to calculate 750 beds. He even went further to tag another illiterate when in fact he is exactly what he said.

Lagos is a complete disaster of a place.

I was among those that rated the shxthole until I started living there myself. Shitty place indeed!

I was at this same LUTH in October to see a dermatologist. Almighty LUTH in almighty Lagos still don't have a digital system of doing things. Even my local government primary health care centre has a better service delivery system. Oga stop venting your anger on Lagos as a state.

After waiting for hours to see the doctor, the next thing i was told was to come on the 14th of of November to conduct series of rest. On-top wetin? This was in the first week of Oct ooo.

I waited patiently for that day, when I got there, they gave me the amount to go and make payment. My hospital records was with the lady that attended to me.

I just left those hospital papers for her and went home straight.

Overrated state in every sense of the word
LUTH is a FG property. Go to LASUTH owned by LASG. It is far better than LUTH. Anyway you can go back to where you are coming from if Lagos no favour you.

Truth is, if govt wants to curtail Japa syndrome in the country, it's actually a simple thing to do.

Just Govt placing a 2yrs temporary ban of new passport issuance and renewal will do the magic and drastically reduce the Japa syndrome.

But the thing is the majority of those moving abroad are the youths who are in their military age. Large population of youths facing economic hardship are a time bomb and a threat to the kleptomaniac ruling elites. It's a welcome idea to allow them move abroad enmass to ease the tension at home.

Damn. LUTH's CMD was at Unilorin's induction in July decrying Japa. Quite surprising his backyard is even best hit.

On the off side, though, dear doctors, stop japaring. It's discouraging and unkind. The government train you costly and you're leaving. Don't be callous.

Dear Government, listen to the yearnings of the doctors and follow suit. It's a malady and malevolent stifling them of their full rights that makes it tough not to consider other options.

Dear (possible) patients, for your sake, shun things that get you to be in the hospital, need medical help. Exercise right, drink water above carbonated drinks, shun alcohol, avoid smokes of first and second class, reduce sugar, reduce sun exposure, check your vitals regularly, think less to avoid hypertension but don't come out here constituting nuisance, reduce fatty consumables...

as if they didn’t pay school fees. They should not look for better offers? Imagine doctor collecting less than 100k. The government should do better

I think this is the best protest workers of certain critical sectors can stage in this country since the politicians does not care nor listen and if the people stage a mere peaceful demonstration you politicians and leaders find way to silence them with threats instead of improving things for the workers now there is mass relocation abroad in that sectors lets see how it goes.

what an Unreasonable set of leaders has Nigeria.

The only logical thing would have been to leave the shit hole immediately you discovered that instead of waiting to live there. Congratulations Mr. Inhabitant of shit hole.

Has your village or LG primary health care facility treated you of your skin desease?

I just hope you are not part of those that came to Lagos standing as an attachment for a ten hours journey but find it comfortable to wail without the courage to leave.

Na only ward they shutdown? wait till the whole hospital shutdown o. Maybe FG will have seen enough to know how much they have failed us. Working in Nigeria under government 10 years after you can't build a house or afford a car and less than 1 year abroad all things are possible.
