I've gone over this topic before on various threads.

One thing we can all agree on is that education in Nigeria has deteriorated badly over the years, especially since the government took over the sector in 1975.

Government owned and operated institutions and businesses ARE NEVER productive or efficient. They're also very corrupt.

At the very least, the Federal Government should be prohibited from owning, operating or regulating ANY educational institution at ANY level in Nigeria. Ifthe government must be involved, let it be the state governments.

I understand and disagree with this sentiment. It's not a given that everyone must go to university. Nigerian University enrollment has increased by big percentages over the years and there's no evidence of a commensurate increase in productivity. Jobs like bank teller used to be done by secondary school graduates are now being done by University grads.

The father earning 100K should put his children on other paths to learn a skill or trade. Let them self educate, read books and engage with the world. Maybe his grandchildren will get university education. Success and advancement is a multi-generational pursuit, it's not the duty of society to subsidize anyone's success, especially in a POOR country like Nigeria.

Presidents Tinubu had a public record in office that Nigerians scrutinized before they elected him to be their leader. He displayed no thriftiness as Governor of Lagos or it's leading politician. Go take a look at the Pension Law he initiated and benefited from when he left the Governorship. My take is simple and real - Nigerians don't expect any kind of thrift, humility or such from this President and he knows it.

Nigerians prefer socialist policies, well this is the result. In Jan 2012 Nigerians had a chance to start remaking their country into a productive space, instead they rioted and demanded the same thing you're demanding now - freebies. Well there's no freebies in life. How any human being can protest paying ₦200K or $180 for a year of university education is beyond forgiveness. In a country where most are very proud that they don't pay any income taxes!

The Federal Government and country is getting little return from subsidizing university education. It's time to stop it!

They never protested like this when INEC and Court forced an illegitimate government on the country whose bad governance caused the hardships. Pity no Nigeria youth, everyone should enjoy the country the way it is after all no one wants to protest against the government wrecking the country.

Any increment should be applied to freshers whose parents will be able to decide whether to let their children enter or look for another school. Returning students should left out of abnormal increment
