That's a wrong misconception. Intercalated year does equates an additional degree. It's only done to explore another field of study.
In the UK , people who do intercalated degrees in say anatomy in medicine are planning to eg become surgeons

I kind of like the idea. Fact is, we don't have enough medical schools, and many of them have been forced to take in excess of what they would normally carry. Result, space issues between clinical and preclinical year.

Also, keeps stidents occupied. Alternative, they go home for several months

Every Nigerian institution has gone rogue...Political, educational, Medical, Military, Police, Judiciary, etc

Private institutions too are joining the madness gradually. No one to hold any accountable so far the bad deeds are perpetrated by pple at the top.

Nigeria needs it's reset button pushed.

There is no idea here.
All medical students in Nigeria have done/ will do an 18 month intercalated Anatomy and physiology. Even biochemistry .
So, the issue here is that there is a stunt in their progress due to overpopulation

Yea, I agree it keeps them busy. A lot could happen in 18months if they are home idle.

Look at it this way

1..They get a masters degree before they graduate

2. It kind of happens in the UK, students take a year off to get intercalated masters degrees

3..Nigeria doesn't have enough doctors. Government is putting pressure on the education system to train more. No space in the clinical side as a result

4. It is an old problem. Very old
They said BSc u r saying MSc.
Where will they get the Masters degree from. Are u the one that will dash them?
Spewing rubbish "kinda happens in the UK"...isnt it by choice over there? And why will u keep on paying medical student school fees when they r actually on break to do BSC in Anatomy. Moreover it's already basic for all medicine and surgery students to do Anatomy, biochemistry, physiology in their syllabus.
If they are actually given them a masters it would have been better, but still, it has to be the students decision not forced by an undertaken.

Can you make it clearer

They need to sign this after 5 years?

Or is this first year?

Your comment is not clear enough

Numbers 1 and 3 are not bad. But number 2 is the responsibility of the university and should not make students to suffer for it. If the University admit only the number of students they can train also in the clinical school, there won't be need for that number 2.
Sometimes universities admit more than theri NUC quote and their capabilities, for more fees and money to flow into their accounts

This is wickedness. With the rate of doctors leaving the country for greener pastures look at what this people are doing.

How does intercalated BSc equate an MSc sir? Just curious because they wrote BSc in Anatomy or Physio clearly there
Re: Ambrose Alli University Medical Students Forced To Sign An Undertaking by Sirtee19: 9:14am On Dec 07, 2023
My advice for you is to get to know your constituency representative (senator or rep), then write a petition to national assembly and send it through them. Then send a copy to your VC, provost, ministry of education and nmdc.

Before we scream blue murder
Can they explain the intent
They over admit.

Their is a quota in place which they can't do anything about in the interim.

But they have Students which they have to streamline to meet with Academic Calendar.

So, they just want to prune the Numbers but at the same time they don't want to lose the Income more Students brings.

Plus there are thousands outside that still want to enter.

There's no wickedness here. You are just being emotional. Health experts ought to be made to sign an undertaking. If not, there won't be health experts in this country in the future.

Been hearing alot about this school. 5 years in 300 level. Howhuh
Your student association ought to hold the school to ransom. Shut down the school gate and main roads on campus and live stream on social media platforms so that the world can see that academias have gone mad
