When I feel that tiredness within me, I don't put the fire on or put up any stuff that has to do with cooking. I would rather soak garri without sugar than endangering not only myself but other families. It is a rule I have adopted for fear of saying " had I known"

My son also did same....He loves food to a fault,could remember when I completely forgotten that I was cooking rice,then went to my neighbors compound to get something,I completely forgot I was cooking,my son who was sleeping woke up to turn it off,that he doesn't want the food to get shortened.

Last two weeks I was warming ogbono soup on fire and I stepped out and told my son to wait at home lemme rush to get something. The soup started burning but my son couldn't switch off the gas because I have warned him never to touch the gas knobs. He ran out to call me as i was rushing to come home to come put off the gas. Everywhere was filled with smoke after turning off the gas. I started blaming my son for not turning the gas off since it was an emergency. The boy reminded me that he was told not to touch the gas knobs.

We had to wait outside the house for thirty minutes for the smoke to die down. Luckily for me my pot wasn't difficult to wash because it was non-stick

I hope you apologized to him after blaming him... Nigerian parents never apologize

That was how my roommate put beans on gas and slept off too, he also closer the kitchen door. The dude slept for an hour and only woke up after a neighbor came to knock the door. By that time the beans has already turned black.

how old is he? I think you are making mistake. Please if he is above 5 , you should let him start doing it at intervals under a heavy supervison and lots of warning and fear. God forbid bad things, he needs it incase of crises and unforseen emergences closer to what has happened. Create a serious fear for them so that they know effect of touching it when not supervised. Unless your kid is super active and curious, always want to touch everything unsupervised. My opinion though.

What causes "gas" explosion is if there's a leaking cylinder coupled with open flames in a closed environment where the gas cannot easily escape. The worst that can happen if you leave food for long on gas is burnt food and damaged pot

An insightful thread.

@Ahnie probably uses as an alternative, the 3kg gas cylinder with a single stainless burner attached to it at the top like the ones attached below... NOT necessarily the table top cooker or the standard four-burner gas cooker (which are still safer because gas cylinders are supposed to be kept completely outside the kitchen area to prevent explosions from gas leakages).

I've seen where a kettle full of water completely dried up after midnight as a result of the fact that the person who placed the kettle on the cooker slept off due to tiredness from a long journey, and after over 2 hours of water boiling, the kettle had became so red-hot (with a melted black plastic handle), a pungent smoke, and real flames wildly leaping out of the red-hot kettle! That could have led to an explosion from the kitchen because the gas was still on and fire was still coming out of the gas cooker's burner.

I learned a useful lesson from that experience and I'll advice folks to always use an alarm clock to time themselves any time they are cooking in the kitchen.

I experienced this on Sunday! I was perceiving the burnt soup but my mind didn't register the fact it was coming from my kitchen, it was until my mom asked if I was cooking something that I realized it was coming from my kitchen.. You need to see the speed wey I take leave lappy go off gas. Everywhere choke! You get luck sef, you still get some part of the beans out. Mine got completely burnt. 😔
