You don't have to provide that.

That might be the way to underpay you

My advice to you is that you should talk to someone in your current company's accounting department, someone who won't cast you. Those accountants are the ones that can help you out. Potentially you have gotten a new job. Act fast bro, good luck to you.

If your bonuses adds up to amount you quoted, then get your salary account statement as a supporting document.

They are not useless, 90% of financial companies does that for direct staff. Some of them may even demand for your last promotion letter inclusive of the payslip.

During my initial interview I gave a figure that was above my current pay, now they insist on me providing the payslip before proceeding to the next stage of the employment process.

The thing is I have monthly bonuses not captured on the payslip and I fear not providing evidence would make me disqualified for the role.

Who has navigated such process before as I don't know what to do.

Is it even legal to ask for payslips?

Will they actually contact my current employer to verify the payslip?

Note: it's a financial institution. I heard they are fond of doing this during their recruitment.

Computer centers are your best call, though, I did mine by myself.

Then 90% of financial companies are useless, I will tell them I signed an NDA.. they only do this to under pay you. Your last salary shouldn't bother the new company you want to work for

Baba no worry yourself. If you are good and perform excellently well in the interview, just tell them that your company doesn't issue pay slip or the pay slip only covers the basic remuneration and other earnings are tied to allowance and there is no pay slip for it. Most big companies does that such as banks. They pay twice; taxable income and non taxable incomes in form of allowance.

Thank you. I've just decided to come clean.. I didn't think I'd make it through the interviews that's why I just put in a random high number as my current pay.. I guess I underestimated myself.

What is the purpose of the payslip request? Is it to 'price down' the applicant or to ascertain that the applicant was employed in the role disclosed?

I know a case where an applicant provided the requested payslips but sensitive information (salary redacted) redacted as this would have been in breach of the Non Disclosure Agreement signed with the former company. The candidate was successful with the application.

I think sharing bank statements is too much information to give.

Re: Companies That Request For Payslip Before Employment by galantjoe(m): 3:06pm On Dec 14, 2023
If your earnings including bonuses, allowances, etc are totaled to what you told them, there is no need to fear. Just provide them with evidence where those bonuses and allowances are being paid into or letter indicating that you re entitled to them.

However, where you inflated your current salary, what you have to do is edit your current payslip to reflect your current earnings. it might boomerang if they insist in seeing your statement of account. but it might not get that level of asking for your statement of account.

I wish you good luck

In case of subsequent interviews, never disclose your current pay. The reason they ask most times is to underpay you. Tell them you are under obligation to your present company not to disclose what you earn.

They actually called me that if I don't have the slip I should provide my bank statement.. That's too much information to give out so I sent the slips

My God! Share payslip and bank statement....I cannot believe my eyes

That's the Nigerian job market for you Sir/Ma.

You can decide not to share any or even divulge any information relating to you it current earnings, and the recruiter may/may not mind.

In Nigeria, the recruiter sees him/herself like a mini-god

Just imagine as your village people follow you enter your job interview venue. Honestly, you for no lie o.

Financial institutions are so strict when it comes to trust, honesty and trustworthiness. They fear staff who are dishonest and may someday elope with customer's money.

I pray God gives you a headway in this gross, unfortunate and self-inflicted confusion.

My advice, don't forge any document and don't give it to them.

Tell them that you are not allowed to discuss your pay while still in the service of the company. Providing the document will contravene such.

Ensure your response are professional and straight to the point.

I hope that during the interview you only gave them a ballpark figure not an exact figure?

I understand that inflating your previous salary for a better pay in your next role is important at times but it should also be noted that things like this may occur.....
Anyways sorry in advance..... Better luck next time...

I think sharing bank statements is too much information to give.

First, I would like to know if this job was with a "Financial Institution".

Second, many recruiters are friends with recruiters in the applicant's current workplace and may already have an idea about the persons work ethics and even salary. If the person lied during the test/interview and shared a fictitious payslip, that's when the bank statement is requested.

Many employers are exploiting the high rate of unemployment to make unnecessary and senseless requests from their prospective employees.

No.. I gave them an exact figure.. They have standard rate of pay for their staff.. I just hope they want to only use it to confirm my place of work.

I sent them the real pay slip, allowances excluded.
