what allowances are you talking about? The only allowance that they were supposed to get is earn academic allowance (EAA). And to the best of my knowledge it has not been paid for more than 2 years.

Educational funding and Investment doesn't yield result the way you think. From available facts, those funds you hear don't trickle down to the institutions.
This guy's need to be well paid so they can focus. We can't get it right in Africa this way. We will keep rigmarolling. We need to wake up. Americans don't joke with their educational sector. Research grants didn't pay out even in the first century.

Why are you all talking about America? Go to Malaysia na. In the 80s, Nigeria was richer than Malaysia...but look at their Agric sector...we buy seeds from them. They had so many troubles in the 80s, but they got over it. Believe me...Nigerian researchers do not need super funds to come up with seeds. And they will make huge profits later. But go to them and ask for seeds...lol.

Thank God you admitted that there is something called allowances, whether it has been paid or not doesn't mean they won't pay them. Don't get me wrong, am not saying they are paid well, but when compared to those private schools teachers, you should know that theirs is a little bit ok.

Assistant lecturer job is meant for those with Master's degree not first degree. It's graduate assistants that need first degree. The guy you quoted doesn't know what he's saying.

To the young academic, just keep your focus and build your network for research collaboration. One research grant could offer everything Mr estate agent live for.

A professor which is the apex earns 400k+ in Federal Universities, that's very appalling if you ask me. Only very few universities pay their lecturers seven digit per month in Nigeria.

Just say that the allowances are delayed but don't come here to tell me that federal workers are not entitled to allowances or say that there is nothing like allowances.

Assistant Lecturer is for the person with masters degree while Graduate Assistant is for a fresh Graduate. G.A Collects 105k

You are comparing them with Malaysia and Thailand whose universities get ten times or far more than ours. Or even Europe whose education budgets are a ton higher than ours.

Again....go back to the 80s...I said Malaysia and Thailand made use of the little they had and became superpower nations in making seeds. This is just an example. Look at the state of education of these nations in the 80s and check if they were well funded then. Lol.

Nope. The hard truth is that we need to find a way to erase corruption first from our system. These lecturers embezzle funds. Two of them took the act to the US and mismanaged grants awarded to them. One even used about 60% on olosho. Yes, these cases happened in the US.

Guy...the same way Tinubu and his boys dey squander money is how these lecturers act too. And this is how it is in all aspects of the nation.

I repeat ....no meaningful result can come out of Nigerian public institutions.

Unfortunately, you didn't know that some lecturers are realtors too. Most of them engage in other businesses that bring more money than salary.

But of course you do not know that.

They may even get scholarships or grants that you won't get as easily as they can. Plus some of them work for INEC and earn money. They sometimes do consultancy. They work as facilitators for FG, world bank etc training, none of which you will qualify for.

I just hope Oga realtor copy copy will learn one or two things from this.

You can imagine someone who claims to have four publications.

The mentality of a typical Nigerian for you. They only look in one direction and takes joy in denigrating the country. Yet, they have no where to go.

A friend of mine that got state teaching job received her first allowance after six months of working apart from her salary. Your allowances might be delayed doesn't mean it will not be paid, if your union really care about your well-being, they would have start pressuring those incharge.

Have you heard about academic allowance (EAA)? Most federal and state workers are entitled to allowances, in most cases the allowances are delayed, if the union where you belong supposed to push for such motion if they really care of your well-being.

That's not the case. The category you are talking about is called Graduate Assistant. To be an Assistant Lecturer, you need to have an MSc in your field. It's more like a step 2.
