Only 4 airports are economically viable in Nigeria

Release the revenue figures for all these airports to make your chest beating sensible

These airports include Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos (which generates about 50% of the entire revenue), Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), and Port-Harcourt International Airport.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/nairametrics.com/2023/09/14/only-four-airports-are-economically-sustainable-in-nigeria-dr-muda-yusuf/%3famp=1
I don't think you are a frequent user of Nigerian local airports.

If you do travel or have friends that frequently travel via local flights in Nigeria, you will laugh at this Ab0ki manufactured report lol

I am in the Southeast right now, I came in through Owerri airport. Owerri airport is as busy as Lagos airport right now. Air Peace, United Airlines, Green Africa Air, etc can't even meet up with the surge of passengers such that some of my friends and relatives had to fly through Portharcourt and they said Portharcourt was not as busy as they thought this season compared to reports from Owerri, Anambra, Enugu and Asaba Airports.

If Nigerian government aren't on a self-destruct mission, the most viable railway route the FG ought to consider in Southern Nigeria is:

Lagos to Aba to Portharcourt

This route will generate the highest revenue for them.

It will connect even more cities and towns in the South.

Lagos, Ijebu Ode, Orre, Benin city, Agbor, Asaba, Onitsha, Obosi, Ihiala, Mgbidi then Owerri, Aba, Portharcourt.

This route will generate trillions for Nigerian government, and even if they triple the ticket cost, so long as its clean, secure and well managed, they will not meet up with passenger turn out on daily basis.

As for viable airports in Nigeria, if a clean unbiased statistics is released, it should be:

Lagos
Abuja
Portharcourt
Owerri
Kano
Asaba

After Lagos local airport, Owerri airport should be the next busiest local airport in Southern Nigeria. Asaba airport is busy owes tribute to Anambra people coming through Asaba due to proximity because of Anambra airport location.

Victimization mentality has eaten you deep, which government is suppressing you guys ? You just wake up one morning and think everyone hates you guys because of the civil war you people caused .

If the government really hate you even in Igbo land your business will not still thrive .
Before you spill your rubbish as reply , I want you to mention igbo billionaires doing well in business that’s having issues with the federal government and still doing well?

Or likewise mention any Nigerian billionaire that’s having issues with federal government and still thrive ?
All your indigenous business men and women enjoys support from the government.
It's shame when Nigerians try so hard deny Igbo marginalization, exclusion and lack of attention in the region.

I don't have to be Igbo see the obvious.

Despite all these, Igbos are soaring high both home and abroad

You ever think maybe they didn't just see the needs for more airport in the East.

The east is the smallest region in Nigeria, how long is it even going to take to travel around a region that's just as big as Oyo state ? It is just like Oyo state having more than 2 airports, when one is not even generating any revenue.

One or two airports should be more than
enough for the East unless the available one are overcrowded and there's a possibility of generating more revenues with additional one. When there's not even a possibility of generating more revenue, it is not necessary, but the north is very big especially Adamawa which is one of the largest states in Nigeria and traveling by roads can take more times so an airport can be build for just the utility even if it is not going to generate much.

Adamawa is one of the largest states in Nigeria bigger than the whole East and even Oyo state, it didn't have a single Airport until that one was built in Yola but the East have at least 3 airports they can access.

The East is the smallest and most entitle region in Nigeria, marginalization is just in your head.
This is the mistake you guys are making.
It's not about landmass size.
It's about purchasing power and population density.

Going by the ethnic map I attached below, igbo area has viable airports.

Asaba
Anambra
Enugu
Owerri
Portharcourth

Adamawa maybe bigger in land but it's beyond land

Please fellow Nairalanders I apologise

It s unfortunate that some Igbos are still loud , myopic , delusional and focused on non essential topics

And Yes I am Igbo and I have lived in all regions in Nigeria

What the Noise about ??

There are wealthy people in each geopolitical zone and many of them don't make noise

Enter Just Dangote Refinery' and You would shut your mouth. This is just one of many assets of Aliko Dangote . Even 1% share of it is worth billions of naira. We once lived next once to a Yoruba multimillionaire maybe a billionaire now and no noise.

Some of you opening useless threads boasting of your perceived igbo superiority in my opinion did not start getting exposed at an early age. There are rich people in each zone. How many people knew David or Dbanjs parents until they entered music

South Africans bought 500 thousand new cars last year. Morocco and Egypt bought a hundred thousand+ new cars last year, Nigeria bought just 10000 new cars last year which are mainly government bought

Nigerian citizens have poor purchasing power even in Africa and You are busy measuring egos against other Nigerian tribes. Please have sense Nwanne

There are a lot of Indians, Pakistani, Lebanese , Chinese and Nigerians making money in Nigeria and nobody hears their voice
Bros forget dangote and his government group.

Dangote is a government diamond spoon fed billionaire.
I will take dangote serious when thrives outside Nigeria like many ibo business owners across west and Central Africa,

You are deviating and letting your insecurity to rear itself out.

I didn't say Lagos is bigger than the East.

Landmass is also relevant to what i'm saying. It's going to take more time to drive to the Airport in bigger region than smaller region.

People in Adamawa are going to spend a lot of time to get to the nearest airport unlike the people in the East, the government can build the airport in Adamawa to make the lives of those that use Airport in Adamawa to be easier. The East already have like 3 Airport already people there don't need to spend a lot of time to get to the nearest Airport like Adamawa that's very big without a single Airport.
Both down the line, it has proven that yola airport is no where close to Owerri.

Owerri has better domestic activities than any other airport in the North aside Abuja.

Owerri, Enugwu airport are far ahead kano and kaduna contemporaries.

It's not about landmass size but economic strength of the people

Innoson that is enjoying BOI loan and federal government patronage...Proforce in Ogun state is also an automobile maker.
You better leave those people with their propaganda.

Several government agencies has patronized innoson, even states in the southwest such as Osun state aswell but they will keep shouting marginalization, their problem is entitlement mentality.

He even claimed that innoson is the only indigenous automaker in the country, when we have Proforce owned by a typical Yoruba man and have been in business for years, same as Nord motors.

We also have several indigenous and local automakers that assembled heavy duty vehicles like dangote trucks etc.

So I always like to advice people to ignore them and allow them to Celebrate their ignorance.

This has finally silenced the media war concerning the ongoing sit at home and it's menace...

As you can see Igbos are trooping back to their land of origin to celebrate with their families.

They know who their enemies are and the BLF equally know the enemy of that region.

The enemies are the target and not the citizens.

Believe Nigeria media news outlets about sit at home at your own peril
We know people that spread false news in this country.

The Adamawa airport is not is viable or busy as the Enugu, Anambra, or Owerri Airports. Same goes for the Oyo airport, it's not as busy as any of the 3.
So get it, you don't build airports because you have a large landmass, you build it because it is viable.
