Men often crave power with the same intensity that dogs crave bones. The relentless pursuit of power and influence can lead individuals to commit callous acts without regard for conscience. While power itself can be a force for good, its corrupting influence can transform individuals into monsters.

Unfortunately, the political crisis in Ondo State, which had been drawn out and sustained, has cast a dark cloud over the "Sunshine State" following the untimely demise of the courageous and esteemed former Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, leaving a lasting impact on the minds of the people within the state and the nation as a whole.

Two significant events unfolded in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. On that day, the people not only mourned the loss of a man who was more than just a governor but also witnessed the swift inauguration of Akeredolu's deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as the new governor, mere hours after Akeredolu's passing.

Since the inauguration of Governor Aiyedatiwa, there has been profound contemplation surrounding the circumstances of the event. What should have been a solemn and reflective occasion turned into an atmosphere of jubilation.


Despite the death of his predecessor, Aiyedatiwa did not hesitate to celebrate his newfound position as governor. What is particularly troubling is the lack of respect shown towards Akeredolu's memory during the proceedings. No moment of silence was observed before, during, or after the inauguration.

During his speech, Aiyedatiwa began by exclaiming "A ku orire o" (Congratulations to us). The event was broadcasted live on national television, so, it wasn’t done in secret. I find it difficult to comprehend how a man who has benefited from Akeredolu's generosity could shout "A ku orire o" on the day of his death. Could it be true that Aiyedatiwa was eagerly awaiting Akeredolu's demise?

Another disconcerting aspect was Aiyedatiwa's haste to assume the role of governor, to the extent that not even a minute of silence was dedicated to honoring the late Governor. Conversely, in faraway Lagos and Benue States, a minute of silence was observed to commemorate the departed Governor.

Despite the expectation that Aiyedatiwa's inauguration would be a solemn and dignified occasion, it turned into a spectacle of jubilation for him and his supporters. This display of insensitivity is truly regrettable.

Power and betrayal is as old as mankind.

This is most likely an Aketi supporter, who thought Aiyedatiwa will NEVER become governor. They tried impeachment, but Lucky is his name.

Akeredolu son and wife were acting as the governor instead of Ayedatiwa.

A lot of them complaining will do far worst if they are in his shoes.

People like the OP are complaining because they are about to lose their source of income.

Knowing APC as currently held by the jugular by PBAT & his loyal stooge, Ganduje, this is the best deal Aiyedatiwa will get; completing Akeredolu's tenure only! Someone else will fly the flag for the party in the governorship polls for Ondo next year.

but the bone of contention here is, he's now the gov of ondo state

I witnessed it and it was so sad it was celebrated with so much jubilation. That notwithstanding it should equally be noted that Akeredolu gave room to all the shenanigans, why not resign when it was obvious he was barely clinging to life? Why did he and his family give their enemy room to taunt them? If he has resigned the same way he once asked Yaradua to do, his dying would have been more dignified. The power tussle he engaged in in his last days was totally unnecessary. May his soul rest in peace.

Ayedatiwa should also note that those who live in glass house don't throw stones. Everyone will die someday, all of us.

If the guy comes out to apologise, I think it should calm all worries. But he needed to do that because of the nature of things in this country. The man no wan dull himself o. Dem fit go bring speaker and swear him in. Heaven will not fall so he had to act fast. Tho highly unethical but necessary.
He will still win their primaries no matter what. Those saying APC won't field him are just fooling themselves. All needed is for him to cut a deal with PBAT and that all. APC no dey take power de joke.

Why are people needlessly oversensitive?

His erstwhile boss and the Ondo State House of Assembly tried to get him kicked out for demanding constitutional transfer of power when he became incapacitated.

They made him the enemy and treated him badly till the last minute. I'd have been surprised if he was all moody and everything as that'd have meant he's a pretender. I like me a person who is upfront in how they feel.

The Office of the Governor can't be personalised. Governance must go on.

Chances are the power that be in APC won’t allow him to pick the party ticket in the next election.

Aketi and his cabals should have also done the humble thing,, many month's ago........

They tried all their best, to get rid of the deputy governor + sacked all his aides, limited his politically enshrined responsibilities etc etc etc

People should learn to bow out, when their time is up........ I expect Lucky to initiate holistic financial audits........
