You are not making sense. I can see that you are home-based all through.

It is not about "forming", but pronouncing your words. You can't understand it because the person pronouncing wrongly doesn't even know. That lady might be born in the UK, or she went for accent reduction classes...and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

You are just hiding under the nonsense you put up here because of your inferiority complex. Many hurdles to cross... sounds and tone...where to stress...silent letters also.

Music and entertainment is different from speaking English. Do not mix it up.

Back to speaking clearly....there are sounds each tribe cannot pronounce well that we need to try to get rid of. You want to speak English...speak it. Hausa cannot pronounce F clearly...they substitute it with v. This is why Buhari says Viver when he wants to say Fever. Almost all Nigerians cannot pronounce "th"...thats why even ex-Pre Jonathan says "tank", instead of "thank". Most Yoruba people cannot pronounce "h" very well... it's why they say "ouse" instead of "house". You cannot speak like this and say you speak clearly.

Good luck!

carry on in your ignorance. however , I want to ask you how many chinese can speak English properly, it hasnt stopped them becoming the 2nd largest economy in the world. If you have something to offer, the world will adapt to you the problem is not whether you say "tank" or "thank", in oth cases I understand what you are saying, the problem is most of you have nothing to offer. We make fun of the chinese English but we eagerly embrace them and do business with them...why? because they have something to offfer, that we want or desire!!! Focus on having something to offer, the purpose of language is communication. So long as we can communicate we are good. If you speak queen's english but have nothing to offer you will be found out and you are of no use to anybody.

I rather have a staff that is zealous, dedicated with heavy 'Igbotic' or 'Oodua' accent that will give me the result I wanted than some smooth English speaker wannabe that will turn my office to English language tutorial center undecided angry angry angry

If you could speak like her, you wont be proud of it. It is not about what you wrote...but speaking clearly. People who cannot speak well always say this. You will ne frustrated if you travel out of Nigeria and you don't speak clearly. Just stay in Nigeria with your whatever accent.

Not saying you form rubbish...but learning to speak clearly is not bad. Accent reduction is not bad...it is actually very good. Speak so that natice speakers can hear you well ...not that they will develop headache trying to understand your words.

Good luck!

In this Nigeria? The problem with an inferiority complex is most who have one dont even know they it. Your problem is you are not qualified for the job. if you are good you are good, focus on being the best in your field and the world will embrace you.

What you have described is like a beautiful woman who has slept around and complains she cant find a husband because she is beautiful. No the problem is you have slept around and no one wants to marry you so you conveniently blame your beauty and say it intimidates men. The reason you cant get a job in Nigeria has nothing to do with your accent!!

I think you have to take your own advice, read three times so to comprehend.

My first two paragraphs is not talking about getting a job in Nigeria, rather about getting a job abroad where the accent of the interviewer and accent used in the office is different from your foreign accent and the job is not in-demand.

The last paragraph talk about intentional changes even within Nigeria as people move abroad and acquire a new community.

Google ‘accent change for job interview’ and you will get many hits abroad for people who offer that service for a fees.

Nigerians and the criticism of their country. A woman said she is a landlady and planning to expand her coast in 2024 and many of you are saying Nigeria happened to her, she unfortunately find herself in Nigeria etc. did she tell you that she is hungry or suffering? Most of these American returnees can be very stingy, even onto themselves. I know of one that can almost by an entire wealthy community of his but whenever he returns home, his appearance is almost worst than that of his mates that are farmers in Nigeria yet he has all the money. In fact his friends and some Nigerians around his area in US have a particular name for him which I don't want to mention here. That woman is not suffering

Somehow funny we have a lot of graduates lavishing out there😁

Actually English language doesn’t belong to us yet we are so outstanding In it and I see no reason why we can’t normalize speaking our indigenous languages like Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Benin, efik, ibibio and the host of others.🧐

The colonial masters really did a number on us. ☹️

They colonised everything about us🤔

For instance, they came and told us that Polygamy is sin while forcing their religion on us and condemning and traditional way of worship.🥺

Now the same set of people have legalized Gay and Lesbian marriages and told us they are acceptable ☹️

Honestly speaking, They really worked on us.🧐

It’s really workable sir in the actual sense.✍🏻

If I may sir, what is the ratio of male children compared to the female kids?

We will realize there’s a very wide margin and the only way we can bridge this is through polygamy but THE MAN MUST HAVE THE FINANCIAL CAPACITY TO O EMBARK ON SUCH JOURNEY

I will like to bring to your awareness that colonialism brought this to us in other to slow down our population.🙌🏻

Population is the strength of a nation 👌🏻
They know that on the long run we will eventually become powerful as they are if we are not put in check.

If I may sir, what is the benefit of LGBTQ in Our society? 🧐

It positively aids the economy 🙌🏻
Businesses easily thrive a well populated environment than the underpopulated areas.
Take china and India for instance, population aids production and manufacturing. You can’t lack manpower 👌🏻

Population is also Defence✍🏻

Until somethings are put into place in this country before we can enjoy the benefits of our population 👍

Polygamy is a sin and Christianity is not a religion of the colonialists, it's a religion for all.

Your argument in support of polygamy is to just boost population ignoring its downsides? If conspiracy theory were a person though.

You are the ignorant one. It is not about the money we are speaking here...or how robust an economy is. It is about speaking a language well. If I was to learn the Mandarin language, I would wish to speak in a way, they will understand all my words. So, I have to identify letters I have problems with and then work on them. This is what accent reduction is about.

No matter how rich or poor the Chinese are...they try their best to go for accent reduction when they are out of their country. I have lived with Chinese. Speaking English is so hard for them...and they keep putting in effort. This is about learning a non native language.

Stop hiding behind ...money and wealth for your weakness. You have words and letters you pronounce wrongly and badly. It is not bad to work on them.

That they try hard to understand your bad pronunciation does not mean every positive person should think that his wealth is all that matters. People saying eh eh eh eh eh to you cos they dont understand your words can be frustrating. Not everything is wealth or money. And you...you are from a poor nation...doing yanga. grin Who will waste his time doing eh ehe eh ehe eh to a broke person from a broke nation?

Good luck!

You have no idea how many times serious minded people stop listening to someone once they speak in a fake accent and how they are prepared to listen to someone with bad phonetics but obvious intelligence.

Good examples Zack of FIRS is not the most eloquent but you know this man is intelligent and you want to listen to what he says. contrast that with Joy Okpe of Arise news, once she starts to talk i switch the channel. All she projects in pretentiousness, she is an empty head who talks absolute nonsense, I would rather listen to Abati with his thick Nigerian accent because he often makes sense.

Sadly though, Nigeria education teaches you only how to speak English and no skill. Sadly again, no developed economy work that way. They thrive on skills.
Speaking English with no demonstrable skill is just like an illitrate, you are not employable.
It's high time Nigeria shift from dumb university degrees to skill acquisition degree and the unemployment will drastically reduce

I have the same pedigree as you and those jobs e.g. Engineering, Architect, etc you mentioned are mid-level job.

Also you are discounting the reality that, there are many Programmers who are equally as good or better than you and the employees have to make decisions based on other criterias.

Many Engineering and Programming jobs also include the requirement to be an effective communicator. As an Engineer after doing my designs, I have to stand in front of upper management to do Presentations, in some cases convince them about my design solution against another solution, communicating in an accent they do not understand will not go a long way.

Also High End Presale Network Architects, who go into Boardrooms to convince CEOs, Presidents and Company Directors to adopt a new technology from their provider must be good communicators and in many cases, the only option is to speak in the common accent everyone at the table understands.

Low & Midl evel Engineers or Programmers who just interact with keyboards don’t need these skills.

If you had my pedigree you wouldn’t type the cr*p you just typed. Like Insaid fake people don’t realize how they expose themselves because they are trying to project a false image that in reality they have no experience of. Secondly nobody who has what it takes to make it to the highest level speaks in a fake or borrowed accent. You either have it or you don’t.

What you have displayed here is the mentality of a man who buys fake gucci in jankara market and who has been accepted by his low level peers and thinks he can now start mingling with people who buy genuine gucci and they don’t know the difference or cannot spot his fake clothes from a mile off.

People who operate at a high level do not need to fake anything. Like I said earlier there are no better examples than NOI and Zack of FIRS.

Lol...Is it not better to learn how to pronounce well? You are very funny. I can bet that you have not travelled out of West Africa. If you have, you cannot write this. Lol. You are covering your inferiority complex with this.

President Tinubu pronounces his words clearly. Can you say he forms? Na cos you can't pronounce well. If you can...you will know when you make mistakes. I used to have an American friend and she knows I am open to corrections. She corrected my pronunciation many times at the initial stage...and I accepted it. For example... "debt"...the b is silent...but Nigerians pronounce b. They can't know you are saying debt when you add b to it na. Lol. And many other examples. There are times you say tank...and they don't know it is thank you say. Get it right. Lol.

You have no idea how many times serious minded people stop listening to someone once they speak in a fake accent and how they are prepared to listen to someone with bad phonetics but obvious intelligence.
It is because you cannot identify a fake accent and someone who speaks clearly. Fake accent wants to copy the high and low tones used without pronouncing them well. I am not talking about that. I am talking about pronouncing your words well. That woman in the video pronounced her words well. She should be employed in the radio station. Does President Tinubu use a fake accent? Yet, he pronounces well. A beg...you don't understand my point because you don't know. It is why I said you are the ignorant one. Lol.

Sundar Pichai speaks with mainstream US accent, compare his speeches side-by-side with a native Indian speaking English and you will see the difference. I work with Indians as well, they are highly skilled and adjust their speaking skills as they move into management.

Ngozi had her initial career introduction in the USA, she speaks with the mainstream US accent. There are a hundred and one accents in the US, she uses the mainstream one. Again, no matter how you adjust in your speaking, there is also that foreign undertone from your native country and you hear that from Sundar and Ngozi.
