In asking people for such things, won't they be at risk of being given false information when they could simply do basic research and find the info they need?

why don't you check you account. Its possible you split payment into 9 or 10 months. So starting from April 2023, you have paid the council tax for the year, so no more payment till you receive a new bill in April.
