Dpharisee:
The reason is that the sensors are sometimes programmed to read 100 percent as FULL capacity, but if you start using it at 70% it may send a message to the system that 70% is the optimum, so anytime the battery gets to 70% it will indicate FULL and you won't be getting complete value for money.
That's why the manufacturer will always indicate charge before use. Just say calibration.

All these kids on Nairaland, I am engineer with several years experience, this is the most basic thing you should know, for you that knows so much about Tech.
Just say calibration.

Personally I don't think it is compulsory. I think it's just a gimmick by the sellers and manufacturers, looking for someone to blame if the device doesn't work well. How can you tell me to charge my power bank for 24hrs before use? Would I be buying a power bank if I had 24hrs electricity?
Nobody tells you to charge for 24hrs! Stop lying grin

Charge wetin..

It's not compulsory

It's not compulsory but necessary. It s a safety measure to prolong the life of your phone battery because when the original battery is dead , that's the end of the phone in Nigeria.
You go buy fake battery from China tire

After buying a new phone or power bank, why is it compulsory to charge it first before using it ?
It's called calibration. The ability of the battery to give accurate juice used or left. Though most batteries these days doesn't require that anymore. Technology has advanced

Your contribution is enlightening, informative and educative.

It's better to talk when you have something valid to say, but unfortunately, on this platform you tend to see so many people talk about what they know nothing about, thereby misleading others.

Thanks for your insightful contribution.

Do you think the white Man that manufactured the phone and advised that you charge it to 100% before usage is a fool? Smh.

The problem with Africans is that we don't learn, we don't listen and we feel we know too much. But truth be told, we know nothing.

I have come to understand that whatever these White people do, they have a valid reason for it. There are some things you may think doesn't make sense, find out well, you will notice there is a reason for it.

It's not a must but it helps with the battery cell life cycle. Some batteries may be really low and using them may reduce the cell cycle, some may still be ok as most are usually charged from the factory.
They only advise it so not to give their brand a bad name that their batteries don't last

For the phone battery and power bank to last longer.

I think it's just a myth o, I've had devices I used without charging and they didn't have any issues.
