That was a spelling typo. There is a difference between a typo and a basic lack of understanding of English grammar.

You can make a typing error punctuation error syntax error etc, especially in an informal context. But you don’t don’t say “people uses” or start a sentence with “am” if you are proficient in basic English grammar.

If you look at the person I quoted he misused an apostrophe. I didn’t highlight that because it can happen especially when typing on a phone or autocorrect. You know someone who lacks basic foundational grounding in English and someone who made a typo.

No one who is properly educated starts a sentence with “am” or says “people uses”. These are not typos, this is how they speak.
No autocorrect in the whole world will change "tomorrow" to "tommorow". Such is an auto-incorrect.

The manner you guys approached the guy who made the error was very bad. You shouldn't assume that everybody knows everything or every basic rule of another man's language, so you have to gently correct them and watch them do the right things. Nobody knows it all.

Is your boss a Nigerian man? Please don't do this and if they decide to sack you because of this, I believe you can sue them and teach them a lesson.

Let me make it clear to you. I am a firm believer in teaching Nigerians in our indigenous languages with English as a second language. However, English is our official language, it is our language of instruction and our language of communication.

You cannot claim to be properly educated if you lack basic grounding In the language of communication, the language of academic instruction. These are things we should have learnt in primary school!

Chinese, French, Spanish, Germans etc are not taught in English. If they make grammatical errors it is understandable. You are a Nigerian, you are taught in English, you complain when they ask you to take proficiency tests but your grammar stinks!!!! What were you doing in school if you have not grasped basic Grammar concepts that a primary school pupil should have grasped?

The reason why it peeves us is because we encounter these poorly educated people very day and it is difficult to communicate with them. Apart from the issue of grammar there is the issue of communication. Many Nigerians speak English but lack not only good grammar but good comprehension. Many do not understand the meaning of words.

The uneducated English man with poor grammar may not have the grammar to get him to university but at least knows he that when you say “couple”, you mean 2. The Nigerian doesn’t.

It's important to discuss your concerns with your boss and express your perspective on the matter. Then it's a big red flag. Unfortunately, many will continue to fall for it as they don't bother to ask questions or research before taking action.

Once had an issue like this, if you give them your password, they will set a 2-factor authentication on it and you may lose your account in the event of you leaving them. Relay your worry and if need be walk away

First of all ask your Employer whether their request is or is not in contravention of the GDPR (general data protection regulation).

It most likely contravenes GDPR because it invades your privacy, both before, during and even after your employment with them.

Ask your employer if there is another approach to achieving their purpose that is not law breaching and privacy invading. You can also come up with strategic options which you can propose.

This might actually be a test. Stand on Law, Your right to privacy and common sense.

You can always resign and move to a new company. You don't have to sign anything you re uncomfortable with.

Easier said; especially as jobs are not hanging from trees.

S/He needs to at least try and see if s/he can reach a comfortable resolution before moving on.

Do not share your password with any so called employer; it is all scam and your data being compromised . I have never heard of any employer requesting for password of their employee for their private ( LinkedIn) account.

If mixing up 'I am' for 'am' is a basic thing that should compulsorily be known by every Tom, Dick and Harry, who says the common Basic One dictation word (tomorrow) isn't a basic spelling too?

I’ve seen it happen in the US. What does the employment contract that you signed say about social media accounts geared towards career? Review your employment contract, it may actually say that this is a condition of employment. Never sign and agree to anything without total comprehension and agreement.

An account that was already in existence before getting the job? Irrespective of what he has signed, the law will not support the wrong thing. GDPR is a serious thing in Europe.

He doesn’t have to give it to them but if he agreed by signing that it was a condition of employment, they can act accordingly and terminate his contract of employment.
Regardless of when the account was created, if he signed an employment contract which includes language on social media transparency, etc then he basically agreed to it.

please go and join a union like unison, so that if anything comes out of it, you can get lawyers to fight for you without paying for it. Like someone said it may be a test from your employer. This seriously contravenes GDPR in my opinion. However, dont be heady about it. A reminder will come thru mail then ask your boss if this doesnt contravene GDPR. You also have a duty to protect yourself.

If this truly falls under GDPR, you are the one to go down for it if anybody takes anyone to court; because you released your password to an account that can be used to gain access to other people. Personal account cannot be shared, this contravenes linkedin terms.

if you changed the email on that account to work email, immediately change it back to your personal email. if not, it is your employer that will change that password you are hiding.

yes agreed. But the second one, they dont need to get my password to see that. The company is taking advantage of him
