OMG. This is just about £107. That is what a lecturer is being paid per month. Terrible
That is why baba blabulu should have set up an emergency economic management team to tackle the alarming slide of the naira.
If not tackled it means the only remedy would be for government to increase minimum wage and salaries across board such that this kind of lecturer would be earning at least $500 in its naira equivalent which should be going to ₦1m before this year runs out.
But the problem with this drastic salary rise is that it will ironically cause further hyperinflation and the private sector won't be able to pay causing collapse of the economy.
This man just like we were scammed about Buhari(that he is not corrupt and is top notch in security) is also another scam in the economy they told people he was too notch in.
People are dying and crying inside because the economy is in ruins, yet nothing is being done!
Businesses are crumbling and some people you see going to their businesses is just that staying at home may lead to depression and suicidal thoughts, but they are just sustaining lossess with no hope of a headway in sight.
What a calamitous mess!

First, I think it's wrong for him to disclose his salary like that. Those things are usually tied to privacy policies. Secondly, I think the bank lady did him a favor by denying him that loan. What does he mean by needing the money for social media gadgets? If your social media business will succeed, then it should start small and grow itself. Take a smaller loan and plan accordingly. Sorry Sha for his small salary, it is well.

You can't become rich with salary.

On a normal, a PhD holder should know how to create wealth...But in Africa it is targeted for pay rise.. lipsrsealed

A PhD holder in English should have a school and lesson centers scattered in PH. English teachers are needed every now and then.

There are other small small business he can do to earn from profits rather salary.

For someone who has taught for 10years if na business man, 5M will be his detty December doings.

Many universities don't allow lecturers to sell handout again. It's illegal in Federal universities

1. It is really sad that a PhD holder earns less than N200k in this economy. How will he cope?
see question!
.How won't he 'cope'? Is he not buying from d same market as d person collecting 30k per month?

2. Economic hardship is forcing this diligent lecturer to start a side hustle. Of course, he has to if his family won't suffer. But what that means is that he won't be able to give his ultimate best as a lecturer because his attention will be divided.
Anybody who doesn't realise that 'JOB' ('persecution' Bible) is a 16-year education program (6-3-3-4) designed to enslave and keep you poor in this 21st century is sleeping on a bicycle.

3. He is apparently discouraged at the economic prospects of his career path too. Again I don't blame him. He's trying to create alternate source of income.

Good, then he should be realistic, or else a 30k earner will wake up tomorrow and ask for a loan of 2million without any collateral to support it

4. Back to the loan issue, the bank isn't going to give him a business loan. For all we care, it's a startup he's coming with. Otherwise, the bank will have requested for his business records. Which I don't think he has.
you get am.

5. So the bank will extend to him a personal loan facility based on his salary.

6. Without being sentimental, the bank simply can't give him that amount; for his own sake and for the sake of the bank. Let's do the maths:

5 million at 24% interest = N1,200,000

Meaning he has to pay back N6.2 million over 3 years

Assuming he's paying back equal amount (which will not be the case because banks collect back loans with reducing interest), but for the sake of discussion, let's assume he's paying back equal amounts:

He will be paying back: N172,222 monthly.

If you are a banker, will you give him that loan? Knowing fully well he has to spend on feeding, clothing, transportation etc. And no, the bank does not care about his Academy's success or otherwise. The loan will be given strictly on the feasibility of his repayment capacity based on salary.

7. If he's really interested in this business, my advice will be for him to take a loan of N500,000 or less. And even at that, it's likely he will pay back from his salary and not his business. From the way he talked, it's apparent he knows little about business. He wants to invest 5 million in public speaking in Nigeria. And that means he expects to make at least N8 million back. It's obvious he hasn't done any feasibility studies for that idea. I just wonder, who are his prospective clients?

I'm grateful for his own sake that he was denied the loan. God forbid suicide.

8. On second thoughts, he probably wants to take the loan and JAPA.
Excellent!!!
cool

Very true.
With that amount of salary, one can only get less than 2 mil loan from FBN.
It's unfortunate..
I don't think it is like that in other federal university.

Me I went for 10m loan and one new fool on desk was telling me to start the process of inspection and some nonsense procedure they have done before and this has taken like 10 months since we began the process.

I'll ignore them and they'd come calling me again. This morning, they called me, I came and only to be told of a fresh process. I told the donkey that if the volume I've done can't cover or prove my business and its potentials, then fvck it. I bounced out and told him I'm not interested. They should get my guarantee cheque for me.

Then I found this story. Nigerian bank won't help you, they come to you when you have established yourself.

I said to myself, if their loan didn't bring me here, It won't be what will get me forward. They will look for me.

They're mad.
