Hey guys I have two questions, any tips and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Question 1: I am attempting to apply for a visit visa for my sister and her family (husband and one daughter). She has been denied twice.

First time: She went with her daughter, they were both denied. (Invitation was for my graduation in 2019). Interview was at the consulate in Abuja

Second time: She went with her kid and husband, they were all denied. Interview was in Lagos. (2022)

I want her to apply again, as I think she was ill prepared both times based on my conversations with her after both interviews. I haven't seen them in about 6 years, and I'd love to have them visit for a few weeks as I recently just became a PR via Eb visa. What would you suggest we do differently this time? I want to be more involved and precise in the application process this time to avoid repeating the same mistake and will gladly welcome any advice or scrutiny you may have. I still believe it's possible for them to get a visit visa, so I don't want to lose hope.

Question 2: What are the current timelines for getting an interview date, and are there any legitimate ways to secure a date in 2024 without negatively impacting their immigration aspirations?

Thank you in advance for your contributions, grateful for a platform such as this.

wahala..the economy is just getting worse and worse...ethiopian airline wch provided affordable flights to usa, is no longer cheap. over 3m naira now for a return flight.
pls who knows of any cheaper way to get to washington or houston area with below 20hrs total flight time that cost less than 2m naira?

Good morning all. I'm new in this US section. So my cousin will be getting married in June This year and she and her Parents (My Uncle and Aunt) want me to come for the wedding.
I have paid visa fee already and my interview date is on the 12th of February.

1. Please if possible, can anyone direct me to relevant sections of this thread that can prepare one for the interview? I have never done any interview. Been to Singapore 2 years ago on a business trip but no interview so it'll be my first time. I'll appreciate any links or YouTube links I can read to prepare. I have read lots of pages here already but haven't gotten what I need.

2. In the part where they ask for sponsor. Now I'm able and willing to sponsor myself, but will it increase my chances if I make any of my Uncle and Aunt as the sponsor and them give them their money back later? They are both citizens (my Uncle was born in the US). Or do I just use myself as sponsor? Just want to know if any of the option will lead to better chance of acceptance.

Ps:
Any other general tips will be helpful or supporting documents I'll be needing to prepare. I have been searching for interview transcripts on the thread for a while to no avail

Will she be applying alone this time? Has there been any significant change in her/their lives between the last application and now? Any travel history?

Thats one thing that trumps a lot of applicants interview. Ticket alone is one year salary. By the time you add vex money and other shopping estimates, that is like N4m - N5m (18-24months salary)
So why are you willing to spend 2 years (gross) salary for two weeks? The FX situation is not helping at all

You will still need Naira to buy FX for ticket purchase irrespective of where you are traveling from.
You’d still need Naira to buy FX to spend while on the vacation.

Brotha/Sis, If you need travel now, Use Cotonou, It is just 2hrs to Badagry. I think that saves you all the plenty argument on fx as it concerns traveling. I see no reason why a flight from Lagos to Uk will be 1.3m while Cotonou to Uk is 700k. If You have the monies, fly from Lagos, if you are not too boxed up, Use cotonou. As regards Fx, we are beginning to see some of the good things Emefiele did as CBN Governor, the ones we have there are still learners. They know absolutely nothing.

Greetings everyone
My interview is in 2 weeks time and I'm applying for Visa to go for my cousin's wedding. I'm married with 3 children and I'm honestlyjust going to represent the family in the wedding. But I'm concerned about this question about "What do you do"? Now I'm self employed, I import and sell Gadgets, I also do cargo shipping from the US. I have an average income of 1-2m monthly. What do you guys think the interviewer will think of my line of work. I have a feeling they prefer you're working with a big and recognizable organization which shows strong ties at home to which you're most likely to return. Am I at a big disadvantage since I'm self employed? I have my own house in Abuja and a couple of digital currency investments, but I don't even think they will ask me that. Just want to know if these concerns are valid or it doesn't really matter. I'm also trying to figure out the best way to say it, like "I own my own business, I import this and that" or "I'm self employed, I import this and that", or "I'm a business owner selling this and that.."

Please this calmness thing, I want to know what exactly you guys mean by calm. Is it to be bodily relaxed (not tensed), or to be smiling sheepishly (make person no go smile too much again), or how. Does it have to do with how I sit on the chair (leaning back/forward) etc. Just try and describe yourself in a calm manner lemme see grin

Hey 🤠

1 Your sister's previous visa denials was based on the point that she did not really have anything meaningful going to do in America and besides , she was going to visit someone who has not really gained ground in the USA.

2. Now that you have become a Permanent Resident , invite your sister (blood relation first) and kid alone and remove the husband out of the movie . Indicate yourself as the main sponsor and be honest in every form you 're filling that you just missed your sister over the period of 6 years .

3. Your sister's husband in Nigeria as well as her job back home will proof TIES (reason for return ) for her .

4. Go n get the MRV (visa fees) for them and book their Appointments right now , no one can guarantee timeframe but with constant checking she might get a date perhaps in the year 2024. Applying for the emergency Appointment is the surest avenue to get your desired date but your sister won't qualify . Her option is to join the date-search bandwagon

Best Wishes 🙏

Hey 🤠

If you attend your visa interview with your present mindset your visa might be denied . You do not have to work in oil company or bank or MTN before you can secure a US visa. Even if you re a roadside Vulganizer your intention and genuineness of purpose as well as proof of financial ability to fund your trip is what the US embassy look out for.

1. In your DS 160 indicate that you are Self -employed /Business man or Importer & Exporter.

2. Your family back home as well as your house in Abuja and other businesses you do are enough home ties for you to return to , therefore you do not have any fear to fear on home ties .

3. Big questions you should prepare to answer are :

** Why are you going to the USA ?

** Will the wedding not take place if you did not attend ?

*** Who will fund your trip ?

*** Have you traveled out of Nigeria before ?

Best Wishes 🙏

I'm super grateful for taking the time to write back a detailed reply. Exactly the assurances I needed.

By the way, let me just use your questions as practice and answer them here.

1. I'm going to the US to attend the wedding of my cousin. We lived together with my grandparents when he was 5 years old before going to join her parents in the US 20 years ago.

2. Certainly the wedding will hold, but She and her parents want be to come because
a) I'm going to be the only representative of her Dad's family coming from Nigeria.
b) Since she left Nigeria at the age of 5, I'm the only one back home she has any childhood remembrance/recollection of, hence she really wants me to be present.

3. I will be funding my trip.

4. Yes I traveled to Singapore in September 2022 for a Blockchain conference and I'll be going again September this year.

Please tell me what you think about these answers. They are all 100% true but are they necessary? Are they too long? Any red flags there? Details you think I should do away with there? I'll be more than happy to hear what you think.

God bless

I the meantime, let me continue reading thread, I started Part 2 from Page 1.

Although American visa can sometimes be a lottery so there is no harm in trying. However, don’t put your mind to it. The VO will assume you are an economic migrant.
1) Your purpose- you are planning to attend the wedding of a cousin that you last met when she was five years old. For what? You didn’t see this lady for 20 years . Suddenly, you will be spending six months salary just to attend her wedding in America. How many of your cousins in Nigeria have you contributed 500k towards their wedding that you will now be spending 6months salary on a cousin’s wedding in America? Things like wedding works well for people that travels regularly and for direct parents/siblings not a distant cousin.
2) You don’t have a strong travel history to justify such expenses.

Piece of advice—- Keep your answers shot. Don’t explain.
Why are you going to America ? ? I am attending a cousin’s wedding. NO NEED FOR EXPLANATION IF YOU ARE NOT ASKED.

Nobody will ask you about your house in Abuja or your bitcoin. He may ask you what you do. Keep the answer short as much as possible.

Finally, wish yourself Goodluck but never put your mind to it.

I’m not an expert neither can I tell anyone’s chances, what everyone does here is merely to speculate based on their previous visa experiences. Let anyone who thinks they have meaningful information share their knowledge with others to help, what I’m against is imposing opinions and of course wrong or half baked information.

Your point noted.

As per your question , as an art (ss1-3) student, history and geography were my best 2 subjects , and when i got to the University i continued with advanced interest by adding history or story of people , animal place or things.
