It takes guts to plan and do something like this.

But the risks are real. Very real.

Some people mentioned Itchy Boots and her travels. Her journey was very difficult in some parts - mechanical trouble, etc. and a motorcycle is definitely far easier to manage in some ways than a motor vehicle. It is a matter of concern when Pelumi talks about customization in terms of a wooden dining board in the rear of her vehicle I was expecting to hear about reinforced suspension etc. Stock Peugeots are not exactly famous for reliability.

I hope she has a bomb proof plan for the ungoverned areas of this journey - Western Sahara is disputed territory and she will be passing through Morocco. She will also be passing through Mauritania - a notoriously problematic and difficult place. As others have pointed out, Jihadists operating out of Mali etc. are a potential problem. Despite all these concerns however, if she ever needs to call upon strangers on her trip, she can expect to be shown the care and hospitality that our villagers in this part of the world are justifiably famous for.

The key part is doing her homework well before the trip. If she gets that right, she should be fine.
