The good thing is the police didn't find anything incriminating on the guy and they let him be without taking a pin from him.

I understand where iamoyindamola is coming from and I think he has a point when we take the recent explosion in Ibadan into consideration. Almost all the residents interviewed by press men said they usually see the occupants of the building bring home explosives but they never raised an alarm . Perhaps if they had raised alarm, they wouldn't be homeless today.

As for the software engineer who was shaken down by the police on the suspicion of his neighbors; it's obvious the guy moved into a neighborhood that is predominantly occupied by working class people who are majorly on-site workers. He didn't do himself favors by alienating himself from his Neighbours thereby making it difficult for anybody to know exactly what he does. The neighbors reporting their suspicion about him to the police is definitely their own way of watching out for themselves.

Not necessarily. It is the problem with sharing space with people on a lower financial level. The moment you do not share their hobbies, values or views you will be a target, one way or another. Particularly as a Nigerian matter where bitterness and bile have replaced blood for so many people.

Example most of the older festac closes are full or retirees. Those ones will be issuing decree that no one should use gen after 10pm.

Things you buy for yourself become oppression. Big TV. Nice car. Do not underestimate the power of bad belle.

What u are narrating differs from what happened to this particular guy. The guy lives in an estate where he's most likely on the same financial level with his neighbors. He motioned how he does relate with any of his neighbors.

They obviously profiled him as a yahoo boy cos of his young age and the level of his financial capability. He could've actually been a yahoo boy & a ritualist.

The good thing is the police didn't arrest him on suspicion, they confirmed he wasn't a yahoo boy or ritualist and they let him be.

Nigeria complained of importing refined fuel.

They built a refinery, then switched from importing refined fuel to the raw crude.

Las las, Importation was sustained.

Now, na International market forces go determine the price of fuel wey we refine. The one wey e determine, we never recover

Ideally, how these companies handle it is that they negotiate for all the passengers.

The problem worsens if one of the passengers go and pay the 16 million. Then you have put everybody at risk.

So what they advise is that they all put their resources together to remove everybody.

Also, I don't use GIGM and ABC. Any company that forces its drivers to stick to a speed limit, is not for me.

Why not?
I believe this is for safety reasons

I think you are going overboard in the comparison. A guy working late a night staying in his house is not the same as seeing different vehicles bringing in differemt goods at odd hours. It is not the same as seeing suspicious looking visitors, or hearing strange sounds in the night.

Outside of close meeting, I don't relate with any of my neighbors. If someone needs help starting their car, someone has left his car out, someones gen is running when there is light - I can call them. But I don't mix with them.

But that is the problem. There are a lot of people who are working from home. I work from home for instance. And it is always in my mind that some ediat somewhere will report me to police as a yahoo man. And of course the police do not actually give a fk if I am a yahoo guy or not. They want me to be a yahoo guy so they can shake me down without consequence.

Though it may not even be the neighbors.it could be a friend or acquaintance, like those lastma dogs that sicc lastma on to you in traffic.

I honestly don't see anything wrong in what the neighbor did, Its the irresponsible police that is the problem

Which is why I always say profiling is part of human nature when people in US complain about profiling. The poster was simply profiled by his neighbor and he was odd

If you have your retired parents staying in an estate where most of the neighbors are either going to onsite work or retired people like them, they now see a 27yr old who doesn't leave home to work, move with laptops and God help him dresses unconventionally, like braid hair or pierce his ears be sure they won't be comfortable and if any issue happens in the neighborhood that looks like an inside job he will be the first suspect.

While the same profile of the guy I described above if he lives in Lekki would not be so out of place

It doesn't make them wrong it doesn't make them racists

We always encourage, if you see something out of place, say something

At least one way or another u have/have had human interaction with them . What the narrated himself is a guy who stays at home all day and doesn’t relate at all with his neighbors in a private estate .

What you have said is why I tell my kids they are going to have a hard time in a few years. The same police that smile at me will harass, Bully and threaten them, because they are fishing. Put my son in a car, give him a laptop and police will be stopping and searching and harassing him.

Suspecting people is not enough to subject them to the trauma of some useless police breaking down their door and ransacking their house.

Just as wearing dreads is not justification for being arrested by police.

So when you suspect something wrong might be going on, what should you do? Or what would you do instead of calling police?

There should be better ways for the police to investigate an alleged fraud case than use trauma-causing methods.

Safety is also getting home on time; while it is still day.

You can be alive and be in the kidnappers den. That is not safety.

The roads are lonely, and unsafe. If the roads are good, jack your speed up to at least be in sight of another vehicle. You cannot be doing 100km/hr as if we are in Texas. grin

No time to waste time for highway. No be cruise i pay for.

If road free, open leg, abeg grin

Its part of securing the community. I also want to feel safe.

if I see a house where young girls are going in and out at hours they should be in school should I report or mind my business? One thing it might be a legit girls dance training insitute or a child trafficking ring

Only proper investigation by police will confirm either

Exactly . I’m all in for people speaking up when they notice anything unusual . The funny thing is the neighbors might think he’s a yahoo boy only for police to find out he’s an armed robber or kidnapper .

There’s nothing wrong in raising alarm when one notices there’s something unusual about the activities of a neighbor

This happens well. During covid there were some kids coming to a train track close to me, they will park their cars and disappear. Neighbors started getting worried and alerted the police, so anyone walking Police will stop you politely and ask some small questions and make small talk. If you don't look suspicious they leave you, by 3rd day me and the police were already waving at ourselves and he was even asking me if I saw any one around

They found out they were meeting up to take drugs or sell
