Mujtahida:

We are a wicked, bitter, toxic people. We usually use comedy and jokes to cover up the darkness in our hearts.

Go online, read Nigerians, you'd be shocked at the vitriol. Go online read Americans or Brits even when they are opposed to each other, you'd hardly see them curse and utter foul words to each other.

You are doing exactly the same thing you're accusing the generality of the population of. It's important to note that I condemn unequivocally the attacks and curses meted on Iwobi, but just a few Nigerians engaging in this act isn't enough for you to categorize all Nigerians as bitter, wicked and toxic people.

You're also wrong to infer that this is peculiar to Nigeria and that the Brits and Americans are different. Just last Euros Saka and a few other players had their fair share. I follow a few American sports and I know it's not any different. At the last Women's word cup Megan Rapinoe received numerous attacks online. I said all that to say it isn't peculiar to Nigeria and most Nigerians do not participate in this. Whether in America, Britain or Nigeria we have fans that peddle hate and a sizeable portion of this demographic are those into sport betting.

Is it okay to criticise players? Yes it is. It comes with the territory. Is it okay to attack and abuse players? No it isn't. Will the abuse and attack of players ever end? No it won't. What we do is call out those who do it and express support for players who experience this. Players also have to anticipate and prepare for this. They have to sadly develop thick skins to these attacks and maybe stay of social media or limit interactions with their platforms when things like this happen. What we don't do is attribute the activities of a few (even if 10k Nigerians are involved, compared to 200M people it's still a few) and paint it as the lot of the entire Nigerian populace.

I remember coming on here before the tournament and after the first game and said Iwobi wasn't good enough. I said if the Eagles are relying on him to be their creative hub then this team isn't serious.
I wonder if many of you guys here watch football or just blinded by sentiments.
Iwobi has been a senior professional for over a decade and no one knows what position or kind of player he is.
I proposed moving him to the left wing in the future to compete with Simon or whoever there cause Iwobi is nowhere near a creative player.
Funny enough I don't think he was bad in this tournament and I think the criticism is way overblown.
He's just Iwobi, average and just like the others in the team not proficient technically when up against any decent side

Absolutely but the weight was too much on him. A third man in MF would have helped I believe in my opinion. We were certainly on the backfoot almost throughout. Yes JP has met and exceeded his target but I feel à new helmsman won't be a bad idea if he JP wants to leave.
A massive block by Bassey when Gradel took that goal bound shot!!!! Anyways we have to meuve!!!!

I hope he gets mad and quit the national team. That nigga has nothing to offer Nigeria. Very lazy, weak and uninspiring. Make Iwobi go siddon

How can players who have played in massive stadiums in Europe be nervous, which kind talk be that. Players who have played in wembley, Bernabeu, nou camp, San Siro, what can be more overwhelming than such atmospheres, make Paseiro talk something else jor.

If he says Fatigue, I can understand
How many has played in Afcon finals before against the host. Playing in nou camp, bernabeu etc is a different thing already

Jean Seri turned around the fortunes of the Ivorian team in this tournament. Funnily, everything Jean Seri did, Onyedika was capable of, but instead of using him we adopted the formation of cowards, playing the only creative midfielder we had as a holder. No how Seri, Kessie and Fofana would have defeated Onyeka, Onyedika and Iwobi in a midfield battle. Jpez is a real otu.

Aina was getting roasted, you introduced SiMoses and did not instruct him to remain in that position to help Aina. What was the purpose of bringing him in then?

Most natural midfielders we have are not in top 5 European leagues. If u mention nwakali samson tijani ebenezer akinsanmiro etc they will say they are not in good clubs or that they are too young. We are stuck with Europe. Our midfield was given problems by players from mamelodi sundown but we will not hear.
By the way samuel kalu is better than chukwueze and moses simon. Also olisah ndah is the most skillfully and technical defender we have but they are not in the top leagues in Europe so people here will say I'm foolish for saying so.
Time will prove people who think like me right. Football does not end in the top 5 leagues of Europe. Nwabali proved it.

there were tired legs in that game yesterday one analyst I listened to on Saturday said most of our starting 11 have played far more minutes than the Ivorians who perhaps did more rotation than us. Those can be minor differences from what we saw yesterday. Players like Bassey, Ajayi, and Aina played through the entire duration of all our matches.
we some forumites talked about bringing in fresh legs even is it's in the dying minute, many cried that you want to change a winning team, the players in the bench can not withstand the heat blah blah blah

Nigerians are terrible people
Nigerians always want to look for a scapegoat, he's not the cause of the team losing the finals, neither was he the cause of the team playing the way they did, if Aribo was there in place of iwoji, it will still be the same result if not worse.

Unfortunately Alex is the convenient scapegoat.

Funny thing is I'm surprised how every body has developed amnesia that in Iwobi's first game where we deployed three midfielders he gave some defense splitting passes and even had a shot at goal.

Alex sacrificed his game for the team in this tournament yes he wasn't excellent but haba he tried na!

Safarigirl has already trashed out the point thoroughly so won't say more.

Oga, Iwobi was poor throughout the whole tournament abi you are blind ni. Singling our a moment of brilliance in a game doesn't mean anything. My problem with Iwobi is giving the responsibility of controlling the midfield which he has proven is too great for him to handle.

That Olisa Ndah boy is indeed one who could come in and elevate the technical profile of our defence line. Our 3 centre backs at this AFCON lack the technical ability to play out from the back. This resulted in their lump it to Osimhen approach.
I barely saw our centre backs hiting diagonal balls to wingers. A player like Olisa does this with his eyes closed, he can even be asked to invert into the midfield when we have the ball like Jon Stones.
So much dynamics if we can stop this straight jacket aproach in call ups.

The problem with the sitting back formation is that its nice when u aren't conceding but if u eventually concede your defenders becomes complecent and if the worst happens of them conceding a second goal, then thats the end coz sitting back teams most often has no plan B.

Very balance input dude.

But I will still say the boys did well. Only they chose the wrong day to switch off. We should make our team be watching the Movie 300 spartans to condition their minds for war.

We will get ot right. At least we didn't jabo at round of 16 or semi final. We were finalists which meant ot could have gone either way. Being a host don't mean shishi. Ask Nigeria at Afcon 2000. 150 million people went quiet at the stadium

Next year afcon will be more tough then this Morocco is hosting I expect the north Africa countries like Algeria, Egypt, and Morocco to go far in the tournament .they usually perform very well if one of those countries host the afcon in north Africa. The coach that is taking over should scout for a proper number 10 that can distribute pass and dictate play before next afcon and world cup qualifier .

Make we qualify first na

And how did that help Uzoho ministry? 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Currently, the only thing wey diy unite Naija is that soccer. Anything short of a win and Naija people go show their animal side. It is unfortunate Iwobi had to bear the brunt. Many people don't know how hard it I to always get compared with a Legend like Okocha. To be measured in his frame at all times even in England. It's so unfortunate. I feel for Iwobi a lot. The brilliance he has got dimmed in Okocha's frame and there is practically not much he can do about it. If only people can get that... maybe they'd go easy on him

What's worse? Hurt people hurt people. Nigerians are hurting and humanity is fast leaving our culture as we have adopted Every man for himself culture. May God deliver and heal us. We need that healing ASAP

The Super Eagles needs start to valuing having technicians in their team..
I was shocked by how bad technically this team were in this tournament...
Not one player here is elite or even above average technically...
Bassey was the best but even he was average.
Paseiro leaving would be a start.
There's no future with such negative football
Yet they played in the finals, even took the lead and almost came back with the trophy if not for CIV sheer determination to win the trophy
