A state visit is a formal visit by a head of government or head of state to another country at the invitation of the host country. They are highly ceremonial and most times are Government-to-Government interaction to strengthen diplomatic relations, bilateral ties or sometimes push trade and strengthen cultural relations at the government level.

However, the visiting country can request to have additional non-government interaction e.g. business-to-business meetings with private sector players on both sides coordinated by both governments. It is left to the host country to do its best in putting its best foot forward in terms of representation of their companies. At such events, MOU’s can be signed or agreements for partnerships reached.

Kudos to Mr President for always trying to maximize every state visit in the best interest of all sectors of the Nigerian Economy.

So what’s the brouhaha about Qatar saying they are not sufficiently prepared to host a private sector engagement for businesses in both countries on the sidelines of the formal government-to-government meeting(s) which Nigeria requested for them to hold during the state visit that Qatar invited our Nigeria’s President to?

This is what happens when people can’t read the lines of diplomatic speak.

In any case, Nigeria and Qatar are currently engaging on discussions to establish a more concrete trade and investment environment and an agreement has almost been reached.

In SUMMARY

1. state visits are formal visits by heads of government or state to other countries to strengthen diplomatic relations, bilateral ties, and sometimes to push trade and cultural relations at the government level.

2. The visiting country may request additional non-government interaction, such as business-to-business meetings with private sector players from both sides.

3. The host country is responsible for representing its companies in the best possible way.

4. Nigeria and Qatar are currently engaged in discussions to establish a more concrete trade and investment environment, and an agreement has almost been reached.

It's obvious considering what our naira is doing against the dollar now. The only thing that will
Make the investors not cut loss is if the naira later picks up over time.

20 years is a lot of time.

E go long for them. I don't even believe Nigerian consumers have the purchasing power to pay for electricity at a price per KWH commensurate to the cost of natural gas used to generate that KWH, hence there is a massive unframeworked subsidy on electricity right now with FG having to bail out the EDCs with billions periodically. Not counting regular maintenance and replacement costs they will face over the 20 years apart from likely operational losses without Govt intervention

The head of the Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria, Aminu Gwadabe, mentioned yesterday that the Central Bank of Nigeria might permit Bureaux De Change Operators to recommence foreign exchange activities at the official market, starting tomorrow.

After an emergency meeting with officials from the CBN in Abuja, Gwadabe made a statement. The Central Bank has not yet released a formal notice regarding this matter.

Gwadabe mentioned that more than 4,500 BDCs licensed by CBN will be involved in the official trading activities, along with banks acting as authorized dealers.

The Bureau de Change operators are required to deposit naira into their accounts at the Central Bank of Nigeria in preparation for the upcoming transaction.

“Our members will fund their accounts with the CBN on Monday (tomorrow) to enable them transact at the official window,” he said.

He mentioned that the central bank had advised the Bureau de Change operators about the significance of submitting reports promptly and adhering to regulations against money laundering.

Gwadabe reassured the CBN that BDCs will comply with the policy regarding the submission of returns and will consistently furnish comprehensive reports on the utilization of previously acquired dollars from the market.

The naira's exchange rate vis-a-vis the dollar is expected to decline in the future as additional BDCs gain access to dollar reserves, according to the ABCON chief.

According to Gwadabe, while BDCs welcomed the return of dollar sales to operators, they are also expressing their desire for the CBN to provide additional avenues for them to conduct business, such as enabling access to diaspora funds.

“We want more windows to be opened for BDCs instead of restricting BDCs to official market funds,” he said.

@ibime and others - when exactly did chnaging naira for dollar become a business in nigeria and what precipated it?
the very day some Nigerians discover they can commercialize kidnapping. Before, kidnapping was exclusive to Niger Delta militants, now it's something else.

Never forget, Nigeria is a fertile ground for bad business to grow, and it grows, exponentially, those conducting that bad business don't give a rats penis who gets foxed, as long as their oil is greased, they're good to go.

Bros, if MMM no cast, shey you believe say many people no go dey run am now still.

LOL. See why I ignored them to go about my day's itinerary? Igbos are the most tribalistic people in Nigeria. I have repeated this over the years on Nairaland, on other threads and on this thread.

Wherever three or four Nairalanders are ganged up to launch tribalistic slurs on others, two of them are Igbos. Facts! This thread, a microcosm of Nairaland and the internet, is an example.

I have had issues with Yoruba persons on this thread on random issues, including politics and personal. They mostly didn't go tribalistic. Try having a random argument with an Igbo person on this thread and he'd go tribalistic then his kinsmen would join in. It doesn't matter if they have no issues with you before.

When I state I know my allies, I mean my people know our allies. The Igbos revealed to us decades ago who they really are and we have learnt our lessons. Maybe some of us believed they have changed but now we know. It'd guide our decisions going forward. smiley
