That guy is very right.

Nigeria is the cheapest place to live in the whole of Africa. You won't understand this until you live in other African countries or you compare living costs.

Before you debate, mention one African country that is cheaper to live in than Nigeria.
I'm currently not living in Nigeria young Man.
And I've previously lived in almost every state in Nigeria. So,I've got my comparison extremely correctly....... U need to correct yours, wen u leave d shores of Nigeria.

Please I’ve been thinking about this since last year. I teach here In Nigeria. I can’t afford to go to the western or Asian countries but I think I can be able to save to move to Gabon to atleast teach.

I’ve checked their minimum wage, unemployment rate and their exchange rate snd I think it’s better off than Nigeria. Please advise me. I’m still single and in my mid 30s.

Is it worth taking a try? I know no one there.

I am willing to take the risk to go look for a job there with what I’ve saved so far. I’m projecting 500k.

Please I honestly and sincerely need your advice

500k will not get you into Gabon , I travel to gabon twice every year to work … as a first timer they will only give you 1 month visa at 260k plus …flight alone is over 800k minimum! The living cost of Gabon is also high as they use an American system. Rent is paid on monthly basis , the least rent will cost you minimum of 200k a month … you will have to pay close to another 1 million to have a working visa … forget the English teaching job as the language is not widely spoken … Gabonese people hate menial jobs as they love to read so getting a menial job to start life will be helpful … so as not to suffer you really need a contact person to make it easy for you … if you can drive the best job will be to start as a cab man … my cab man makes over 1m after all expenses paid (exchange rate factor , used to be 500k ) hope this helps

I will suggest you to make research on The Gambia, teaching work is better there, I knew two guys I did passport for them. They traveled to Gambia.

I'm now incommunicado with one while the other that used to communicate with me, the guy is now in UK, he moved from Gambia to UK. It's from that country he saved to fund his traveling to Europe.

Theres not much to lose. I would advise you do some preliminary findings though. Join gabonese groups on facebook and seek information. Check their job boards, check school websites and mail the proprietors or connect to them on linkedin. Ask to know what prospects you have with your qualifications and experience.

Look out for other nigerians in Gabon or anyone who can receive you and show you around town for your first few weeks. Look for churhces there as well and connect. Finally, you should definitely have an exit strategy if things do not work out as planned.

This way your risk is calculated. Good luck

What a sound advice!! No doubt, some Nigerians in this forum are good people

Oga, I have lived and done business in 3 African countries now. Minus the quality of their food and the fact that my family is in Nigeria, there is nothing to miss about Nigeria.
Right now Nigeria is hell compared to most places in Africa.

What is the best African country in term of security, how safe it is, weather, food etc?

don't use exchange rate to determine how good the economy of a country is o. I've
been to several African countries and I can tell you things are quite expensive compared to nigeria . e.g a bottle water be costing like #1500 naira lol.
It's your bad currency that makes it look like it's expensive. Naira is worthless in Africa now.

For food, no one beats Nigeria. We have the best food by miles
For security, I could give you more than 30 countries where you wouldn't have a single problem. But the clue is this, any country not at war and that doesn't have insurgents is likely safe. South Africa and Zimbabwe are not too safe. Also Kenya and Tanzania are not perfect but all these are much better than 9ja.
As for the weather, its not a problem.
Now here are my top picks
Gabon
Equitoral guinea
Ivory Coast
Morroco
Algeria
Ghana but they don't like us too much
Tanzania is growing very fast it's a great place to set up a business
Benin and Togo are perfect for almost any kind of business and they are close to 9ja
You can become a millionaire in Libya in just a day if you are the risk-taking type. I will not say more.
The smaller Congo, not DR Congo is growing every day
And maybe Senegal.

If you notice, I did not mention some of the richer and more stable countries such as Cape Verde, Namibia, and Mauritius because I don't think they offer many oppurtunities.

Mr, it's not about our currency. a bottle water in most of the African countries I've been to sells for like 1$ which is quite expensive. mind you I change from dollar to their local currency and not directly from naira. I only use naira to make him understand how expensive things are in other African countries.

also same bottle water is sold for just 300#(way less than 1dollar) in nigeria despite how bad our currency is at the moment. so get the point

Film yourself teaching what?
cocoduck:
Nope! Don't, if you do, you will be taken advantage of. the minimum wage is for citizens or residents with carte de sejour and you are working for the government. The private schools run by Nigerians (that is where you will work because you do not have carte de sejour and you do not speak french) don't pay well, If I were you, I will buy a camera and film myself teaching, then upload it to youtube. With time YT will pay you. BTW 500k is way too small.

Yes, the Gambia with their small population, needs labour.

You will meet many nigerians there doing different jobs and also their currency is higher than the naira

I worked as a teacher in the Gambia for two years 2002 to 2004

You can try Cote D'Ivoire there more Nigerian there. You can go by bus from Ejigbo town in Osun state, you will spend less than 100k for the trip. Its a three days journey.Best of luck brother.

U own a restaurant in gabon?
viodemus:
Relocate if you have the opportunity.

Gabon has electricity. Like other African countries, they are not really using it for anything.

If you Japa and do business, do some with your intended trade name, but do many in the country's name. When I use to run a restaurant, I used their local name, but my menu had diverse food, and that is where I got creative with names.

I wish you good luck.

Is possible to make it anywhere, some people get their platform to success in Nigeria or Africa, while some spring boards to success might be when you travel out.

Lots of whites visit Tanzania everyday with enough money to spend. And the city Dar es Salam is growing everyday.
Also, their currency is weaker than naira so easily start a business coming from Nigeria.

Using nice & mild words on stupid people never yield positive outcomes.
