Tinubu's govt orders 10,000 tractors as Germany's Deutsch Bank pours €995m into agric hubs in 774 LGs

The Federal Government has signed an agreement with the Brazilian Government and German Deutsch Bank Group as financiers of a facility of 995 million euros for the Green Imperative Programme.

The programme will provide mechanization hubs across the 774 local government areas in Nigeria when implemented, minister of agriculture and food security, Abubakar Kyari said in Minna Tuesday.

“A memorandum of understanding between the Federal Government and the John Deer Group, a subsidiary of Tata Equipment, was signed.

"The manufacturer has signed to deliver 10,000 units of tractors and implement in tranches of 2,000 units per annum for the next five years.

“The Greener Hope Initiative is another veritable platform the federal government is deploying to ultimately change the deficit narrative in the Nigerian agricultural mechanization space,’’ he added.

Kyari spoke at the ceremony to launch the Food Security and Agricultural Mechanization Programme of Niger State. It was attended by President Tinubu and several state governors.

Appreciating the President for honouring his invitation and inaugurating the facilities, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago said four states, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, and Lagos have signed memoranda of understanding on building partnerships for the development of agriculture.

"Mr. President, your presence here today underscores the importance of this occasion for our state in particular and Nigeria as a whole, as we gather to celebrate a good example demonstrated in our modest contribution to infrastructure and agricultural development encapsulated in our New Niger Agenda.

"For us, agriculture is key to addressing the challenges in critical sectors of our economy, and we shall seize every opportunity for the attainment of growth and engender prosperity for the people of our beloved state and by extension our country, Nigeria," the Governor said.

Instead of having 2,000 units supplied per year for 5 years,by one company why not do the same 2,000 units in one year with 5 companies.

5 years journey don cut down to 1 automatically. I am sure there are more than five top notch agricultural farming equipment manufacturers in the world

Why put the cart before the horse? Why not rid the farm lands of killer and kidnapping herdsmen/ bandits before asking farmers to go back ? Would those criminals watch farmers plant and harvest their crops in peace or is it going to become another one of Nigeria’s thousands of abandoned white elephant projects littered across the country since the Gowon oil boom era

This would make more sense.

But their excuse could be that they want to see how it fares year in year first before investing everything at once.

But it would have been better if 5 companies can just send the order at once instead of one spread across 5 years.

Your wapped mind is always fixed on looting/corruption.

I hope you don't find yourself in the corridor of power in the future.

I am not saying there won't be people trying to cut corners and take advantage of these development to loot, but that shouldn't be the first thing your mind will imagine.

The so called "germans" will first have to pay bandits terrorist mobilization fees since they are businessmen before they will be allowed to plough any piece of ruga land in the states of bandits terrorists.

It will be too expensive and probably difficult to maintain. Using of one brand comes with total package of maintenance and parts. 2000 tractors in a year alone is quite significant so there's no point bringing 5 different brands and companies.
This is just from FG alone, states, LGAs and international donors and agencies will still provide tractors and support for the farmers. Our problem is keeping our borders shut enough to prevent the smuggling of the highly subsidized harvest afterwards.

This is nice. This is what our government should be spending money on, not funding importation of vehicles for senators and other government officials . Imagine if the government borrow money to fund deals like this. At least, over time this will pay great dividends. Kudos to the administration for doing this

Another white elephant project, another format loading, initiators warming up to cash out, terrorist and bandits waiting for another level . My fear is that the president is too old and weak to vet files for only two hours a day, you can't achieve anything in an unsecured environment.

My friend, they have already looted the money by signing with a contractor for 5 years on 2000 yearly bases instead with 5 contractors on 2000 production pet year for a year delivery of all the contracts. This is why we parliamentary system because the shadow cabinet will draw out the lacuna and with public outcry this type of contract won't hold.

😐😐😐😐
How many farmers can afford to
operate tractors when diesel is N1500/ litre❓❓

Tinubu and his clowns always act
without thinking or involving stakeholders.

❌He stopped subsidy without any plans.
Now he has put the whole country under
high jump and brought starvation into
Nigeria.

❌ He threatened Niger Republic without
having a security adviser or minister of
foreign affairs or even heads of military.
Now they are going to beg Niger, Mali
and Burkina Faso.

❗️❗️ Knowing this man's antecedents, I'm
sure the contract for this supply will
be given to his sons, who will probably be
making nothing less than N2m on each
tractor.

Do the maths.
