The irony is that, of there's a nuclear war today, Russia would definitely be at the receiving end. Infact, I would be shocked if Russia would still be in existence after the nuclear war. In world war 2, Germany, Japan, UK, France, the USA, Russia were declared the most powerful nations on earth following their roles in the war, today, the USA, UK, Japan, Germany and France are all allies against Russia.
