I don't find it strange actually. I remember the first time I went to warri, I was seeing army check points within the town. Never seen anything like that before. Imagine going to Iyana Oworo from Oshodi and there's an army check point in Gbagada.

It does seem to me like people there have no regard whatsoever for police officers so their leaders tend to invite military officers when issues come up.

Can a community just go to a Division and invite the NA to come and settle dispute?

I am not talking about checkpoints. Military checkpoints are usually formed under a particular operation, of which it will be ended once the operation is closed.

So which one did they stary for Okuama that 16 soldiers will be there? A Community, not even a town.

And a Major dey there?

Omoh, there's more to the whole thing. Sadly, the community lost their voice to cry the moment they killed the soldiers

That's not it; it's the years of communal clashes & civil unrests that has degenerated over time as well as the militancy issues of yester years that's responsible for that .

Immediately after the ENDARS violence that saw private business centers and government institutions burnt ; soldiers flooded marina on Lagos Island for weeks to restore normalcy

Not in Warri. I lived there for about 8 months in 2015. There was not a single issue at the time. Maybe someone living there can confirm if the checkpoints are still there.

You may be right that there's more to it but based on the unusual presence of military men when I lived there, I won't be surprised if they are invited to settle disputes.

And those communities are not just any community. They are oil rich communities.

In all the memos and disclaimer released by the NA, no mention of what Operation these 16 soldiers went for.

Abi na so anybody fit waka enter 82 Division, carry 16 soldiers with Major dey go him community?

Yes, possibly. That was what turned the city to a grave yard. I heard economic activities really boomed in the early 90s.

we are nigerians. we know how it goes.

our soldiers and police are mercenaries for hire.

you have debt and your debor is misbehaving, you hire plice to harass him. your picker is running game on you, your hire abba kyari to deal with him. izzou is hiding igbo in his spare parts - he gets a soldier to escort the vehicle. all these work until you meet a person with more craze than you.

all these games corrupt police and soldier play as paid enforcers can also go sideways if they meet a person with more craze or resources than them.

in nigeria mediation simply means both sides try to outbribe the mediator

if that doesnt work over to plan b for the losing party

Most likely that whatever took them there was off the books.

Well, all that became over, the moment they killed the 16.

The death of these 16 soldiers just overshadowed important questions we should be asking, and then turned the hunter to the hunted.

Because, I cannot understand how soldiers were deployed to install peace between two communities

No Police man, even though the closest call to security is the Police station.

Na soldiers wey fit travel 100km from Barracks go do peace talks?

And what the flying fck is 4 Senior officers doing there? The NA will deploy a Major to go and settle dispute in a community? Are you kidneying me?

The truth remains hidden.

Lmao.. Oil bunkery interests oga.
That's the underlying factor that the army will never admit to.
Because the ranking of those guys just makes everything fishy

I no even understand , maybe the governor has forgotten he's an executive governor and that he owes the people who voted him an explanation of current security situation of the community as the chief security officer of the state .

Even Gaza and Syria wey be war zones journalists dey film . Governor dey within his own state wey crisis happen and dem no allow his pressmen film. And the governor no fit vex commot there or make an issue out of it. Smh

He hasn't forgotten at all.
The man just doesn't have the balls because of the numerous interests he has to service to avoid being in the bad side of certain ogas. That's the only reason I can think of.

How you sef see am say them go command governor make e nor bring in press.. Ahn ahn

Between 2015 and early 2016. There was an army check point between express junction and Effunrun round about.

There was one in Udu.

Even Peter Obi who is directly vying against Tinubu, and should have a personal grudge against him because of the vitriolic outbursts of the electioneering period, sees some positives where they are as he criticises.

1. Peter Obi Hails Tinubu For Adopting Oronsanye Report

https://www.nairaland.com/8015388/peter-obi-hails-tinubu-adopting

2. Peter Obi hails Tinubu over 50% transport fare reduction, queries implementation
https://guardian.ng/news/peter-obi-hails-tinubu-over-50-transport-fare-reduction-queries-implementation/

3. Obi praises Tinubu’s entourage cut, demands 60% governance cost reduction
https://gazettengr.com/obi-praises-tinubus-entourage-cut-demands-60-governance-cost-reduction/

As you berate the negatives, praise the positives if any. That's how not to be the bitter opposition.

I had to be the one to state this since I am on "this side" 'cause if anyone else does, he'd be gaslighted and termed an APC apologist.

The Heavens forbid I become that bitter.

Saying there are no positives or always ignoring the positives to focus only on the negatives is bitterness and hatred.

Ibime what do you make of Otti’s counter-claim that his administration hasn’t borrowed the figures being bandied about in the media?

Don’t you think that could be the opposition trying to play a quick one on him?

That's the budget he put forward and his house signed off

Whether it's fully implemented is another matter.

The job of the opposition is to act as a watchdog by criticizing government policies and programs they feel may not be in the interest of public good in a democracy .

If the ruling party wants praises for their policies and programs yielding desired results , they have their supporters and numerous support groups to do that job for them. It's that simple .

The common man like me and u are interested in having opposition checkmate ruling party so we can have a semblance of good governance .
That's it. No serious opposition will heap praises on the ruling government. Na why them call am opposition.

Exactly, simply because that's not their job.

Anybody alive and has free access to the internet will be conversant with how APC criticized almost every PDP government's decisions between 2012 (when ACN, CPC & other parties were still contemplating a merger to form a mega party) to 2015 when they finally gained power.

It's not a new thing that started 2023.

Lol Sheikh you need to look hard in the mirror for this one. Just 2 days ago you were mocking Peter Obi for breaking fast with Muslims. Will you guys ever see any good in Peter Obi?

If PO go to church is a problem to APC supporters
If PO go to mosque is a problem to APC supporters
If PO go to court is a problem to APC supporters
If PO go to IDP camps is a problem to APC supporters
If PO donates money is a problem to APC supporters
If PO no give shishi is a problem to APC supporters
If PO complain is a problem to APC supporters
If PO didn’t complain is a problem to APC supporters
If PO speaks is a problem to APC supporters
If PO remain silent is a problem to APC supporters.
