It's not just an individual who wants to be called 'sir'. It's the military where rank is everything. They have traditions. He could call him 'officer' while talking about him to a third party, but they don't use that term to call the attention of thier senior. Even in mere secondary schools, a JSS1 student wouldn't say 'student' when calling the attention of the school's senior prefect.

Pls I don't know anything about their official conduct but what is wrong with calling h officer? Can someone educate me.
