What has addressing you with your rank caused you- demotes or elevates you? This is sheer display of arrogancy and inferiority complex. You can't be a gentleman office even among your subordinates. A course they taught them in the NDA.

Perhaps the officer should go to the battle field to enable BH terrorists help him assert the peeps rank he is bragging about. What nonsense! Discipline have really degenerated in the military.

It's not just an individual who wants to be called 'sir'. It's the military where rank is everything. They have traditions. He could call him 'officer' while talking about him to a third party, but they don't use that term to call the attention of thier senior. Even in mere secondary schools, a JSS1 student wouldn't say 'student' when calling the attention of the school's senior prefect.

Something I noticed about kids this days is, they're used to asking people not in their age bracket "how far", instead of good morning, afternoon or evening. when you're used to something like that, you're bound to make that same mistake in a corporate environment.

COMRADES this is unethical and unacceptable especially in African settings, you can't address your superior like that
Even in the office, do you call your manager by their names?

In a formal setting, you address you boss by his name.
Good morning Mr Seun.
Good morning Mrs Nkechi.

Rule of law first.

The world is slowly going into confusion because we have started disregarding our culture and basic etiquette.

Rule above everything else. It’s what keeps a society.

It's the military.

Anywhere in the world, respect for superiors is held sacrosanct.

I watched a video where an old Marine Sargent received his son who just made officer cadre.

He saluted him and said "congratulations, SIR!" His own son!

Only civilians call soldiers and other uniformed services "officer".

Is the soldier a civilian?
