I don't mean the staff of the office of the Surveyor General, I meant the estate company.
Thank you sir, my Oga's put up debate to clarify the issue. We can all see first line of simple defence from the debate in order not to be a victim of those criminals, deeper search in State database is necessary to unravel the truth before money exchange hand. Those estate companies are the biggests scammers at a larger scale in real estate business.

My property is located on a swampy area and I need advice on what to build...

A bio digester or a normal septic system?

I have an existing septic system (big one too that's use by my family alone) but I have to get someone to pump out the waste every 2 months which is not normal. I was told it was because it was not built properly but am scared of making the same mistake twice. So please people with either system on a swampy area please share your experience with me.

you know in your mind you need to contact a qualified engineer not those bricklayers parading as professionals but you just want to play around alright then.

What's wrong is just saying contact a qualified engineer? Are the rest necessary?

Anyway am asking people here with experience with such things. So if you have nothing other than making condescending comments then thank you for nothing.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I don't think a biodigester will solve your problem. I believe the reason why you have to evacuate your existing septic tank so often, is because the septic tank let's ground water in and the level of ground water on a swampy land will be quite high, making the septic tank almost full at all times.

I think building a septic tank with waterproof floor and walls, and also excluding a soak away section should solve your problem. This can be achieved by adding water proof cement to your concrete mix when casting and also to your mortar mix for plastering.

thanks for your insight. The one I've now is also a single big tank and we used waterproof cement (think that's what they called is) but I'll ask around maybe there are waterproof cement of better quality than what was used for me to avoid the same thing from happening.

I was also advise to make the new one not too deep rather it should be lengthy.

The water table on a swampy land is usually at or above ground surface level, so it won't really matter whether the septic tank is shallow or not. As long as it isn't water resistant, water will still get in. Just make sure the water proof cement is mixed with the right ratio to regular cement and also mixed thoroughly. And if possible use a concrete mixer to mix your concrete and a concrete vibrator to expel all air pockets while casting. Your mortar for plastering can also be mixed with the concrete mixer so no part of the mixture is spared of waterproof cement.

You may also consider placing a DPM (Nylon) before casting the floor of the septic tank.

When I lived in Lagos, most houses on our street had similar issue.
The solution was to build the septic tanks on the surface first, that is above the ground. This was done by casting, no blocks. They allowed it to properly cure. Remember, you do not dig the pit yet.
Then people would go inside and start digging up the soil from inside while others would dig from Outside. As they do this, the casted soak away would gradually sink into the dug out ground. It takes time but at the end, the whole soak away that was on the surface would be buried. The bottom is layered with hardcore, DPC and concrete.

There is no wood by 16 anywhere is Nigeria, the range you can get is by 10 to 11. All this by 16 length na Scam, length of 12 you can’t find either. As for the nails I can help you ask around, location is Ibadan. Am sure it will be cheaper including transport and quality you will get that buy from Lagos.
