IPP or solar farm?

But why can't Nigeria manufacture things like solar panels? Nigerian education is a total mess. All talk, nothing to show for it.

Honestly, no! During my curious age, I wanted producing solar panels. After using Fx series of casio calculator, I removed the solar panel to check the secret. I made real research.....

That was when I learnt of stuff like photosensitive materials, electron jump, silicon cell etc.

At such a tender age, I only knew how to improvise to set up all those components. I was haunted by my dad who never wanted to see me "play" but study, my limited knowledge of where to get those materials, my symbian phone which will always reference everything to US and UK.

After years of unsuccessful attempts, I landed in the university and the haunting continued, even worst.

It was an abandoned dream and abandoned hope.
Nevertheless, I was able to produce speakers from scratch. Achieved just by wounding coils around magnetic field and using silver film to reflect the sound.

I failed in:
Solar panels
Generating electricity with motors without battery
Electronic bell
Transistor radio.

In summary, Nigerian education is trash, it buries your aspirations. I later picked Civil Engineering in the University and it's still trash. I can only attribute 95% of the real world knowledge I have now to my Catholic secondary school.

Bro, we just started alike... Nothing wey I didn't do with those solar calculators. I did everything to improve the voltage and current. Nigeria is a dream killer but what's motivating me here is because it's still virgin land. I wish we have good leaders

Power is different from Energy.. don't confuse 10KW and 10kWH..

1KW for 24Hours is 24KWH..

1MW can power 1000 homes without issues.. and total energy will be 24MWH over a 24hour period.

Without ACs.. average load in many homes is less than 1KW... 1000KW makes 1MW..
The optimum usage of a 1KW gen is about 80% of its max output, you have to even consider power factor.
That’s like saying I better pass my neighbor gen, will power an average house, that stupid gen can barely power a 2 bedroom flat.

An average house will need 3-5kva gen without AC, some in the region of 10kva.

Please let’s desist from celebrating mediocrity online. It doesn’t pay in the real sense.

Why did you reduce a Megawatt power plant to A 650VA less than 400w actual power generator ?

List out the Load that make up your 1000w, without AC..

Nice one from Seyi...this is only just the first step as little drops make a mighty ocean.

I am surprised a certain stola ain't here to lament or at least, say something.
We ain't mocking Seyi for starting with just 11MW but we remember how this stola made mockery of Otti day and night over his 188 MW! How he and others like yarimo made jest!!!!
No wahala,as you keep making mockery of people's efforts, the people will continue to prosper and forge on and grow.. people really need electricity.
God bless Otti,God bless Seyi.

How can I mock or make jest of Otti over 188MW he has no business with and does not even know his own Abia state has funds invested in the private project of Prof. Barth Nnaji?

Abeg show me the jest or mockery of either Abia state or Otti or Nnaji?

My own happiness in the matter is that anarchist Nigerians, that always lament about project or budget cost, are able to accept that over $800m was spent to generate only 188MW of electricity for 9 LGAs out of many in Abia and out of 774 LGAs in Nigeria. Despite that initial project cost was $250m and quoted in US dollars, so no claims of Naira devaluation as the reason of the spike in costing

Same people would want the FG to spend half of that to generate over 10,000MW for the whole country under 1yr, but they accept the challenges that took Barth Nnaji 16yrs to accomplish a drop in an ocean at such a high cost.

Are you not worried as a Nigerian about the implications of that to our country ever having the required electric power generation capacity in your own lifetime?

Where will the funds for 774 LGAs come from if only 9LGAs gulped $800m in 16 years.

Think rationally, not everything in tribal banter.

Its never too late. My story is similar with series of abandoned project. as early as 8 year old was when I started questioning why car engines were build with metals only, my curious mind almost collapse because there was no one to give me an answer. I yearned day in day out for an explanation. parent wont even listen to my curious questions because they see only an 8 year old boy that knows nothing about the " real world"

I was burning with curiosity as a child . its such a pity that there was no internet neither was there books readily available to me in those days(mid 80's).
I grew up and found my way into instrumentation , Automations and control which served to satiate my thirst for answers on how things work.

You're being naively stupid. Don't throw up any tantrums here because it's obvious you're not knowledgeable but your aim to heat up enthic sentiments. Mind I'm from Abia state too.
Lagos state government has been building pockets of IPPs for dedicated areas in Lagos and they're still functional till date. GSM is only replicating model. Nothing wrong with that. Even ex-governor of Delta state, Ifeanyi Okowa built something similar that's powering the entire civil administrative building in Asaba.

Why do you run away from knowledge. It's a big shame reading some of the comments above.
Some people don't even know the difference between a Megawatt, a Kilowatt and a KVA.
Some were so ridiculous to say 11MW can't power more than 1000 houses ! These same set of people will know the total nos of cars that Davidos has. What a shame.
Anyway, I'm not a staff or employee of Government. I work for myself and I'm comfortable.

nope. The IPP will serve the energy needs of various infrastructural facilities in Oyo State, which include but will not be limited to:
The State Secretariat and Government facilities within
12 healthcare facilities, including the Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital and the State Hospital Ring Road
The Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba
The judicial complexes at Iyaganku and Ring Road
The Oyo State House of Assembly
A selection of schools within a defined catchment from the generation plant at the State Secretariat

There's a stage in the Nigeria's education ladder that's being skipped and that's the technical education stage. Most of the countries you will see making waves in production today is based on their technical training. We jump from secondary to university/polytechnic skipping the technical stage that should be prerequisite to university education that's is reserved for research works.

You will notice that Nigeria is not lacking in innovators, designers, trail blazers in different fields but we are solely lacking when it comes to reproducing such discoveries in large quantities. That's why there are mainly quacks handling most of our technical level jobs ranging from engineering field to construction field, IT world, agriculture, medical field (fair ...as it's not coincidence that if you have a technical training in any branch of medical field, they are in high demand outside the shores of Nigeria), sports etc.

Even the university education we focus on, only a few percentage of students get admitted each year with the larger percentage left hanging.

If Nigeria will ever be a producing country, technical level education must be compulsory. There's no field that doesn't have technical cadre. Students can go into different fields based on their passion and talents.

Research works have shown that there's no individual/child that has less than three of these combo (talent, interest, passion etc)

Good for a start but as things stand, the OYSG should be thinking of hundreds of MW. They should endeavor to get major city and towns off the grid permanently.
I hope Lagos can just be bullish and set the pace. Produce at least a gigawatt and set the Island and some good part of the mainland free for live. And imagine the IGR such would generate for the state every month.

If you have sense, you would have known that Geometric is a Genco, disco and transmission company. The transmission line alone runs over 150,000 KM.

The cost of building 100 MW of solar plant is $390 million in South Africa. Now imagine what it'll cost to build a 188MW gas plant with 25km gas pipeline and 150,000KM transmission lines.
