PressMyButton:Yes, FG has been paying subsidy for darkness but you will be made to pay for the darkness now and you think that's the solution to this "darkness"? Why the need for subsidy in the first place? This is just a byproduct of the Nigerian corruption |

Slytiger:You are completely out of your mind. First of all the government of these capitalists country you trying and striving to copy are not as unrepentantly corrupt as your Nigerian leaders and they know why they are elected or appointed unlike yours. Secondly the capitalism in those is not 100% the govt still strive to protect the less privileged infact all their citizens from inconsiderate high price of capitalists. But here you are trying to practice 100% capitalism without consideration for the welfare of citizens. |

Edoreborn:Truth is bitter, the Government would have sold NEPA to technically and financially competent investors rather than their cronies who are grossly incompetent. Moreover, the terms of contracts makes it difficult to withdraw their lincense, otherwise Government will face litigation and pay heavy fines. Some distressed Discos have been taken over by AMCON. |

Slytiger:Every govt ought to be in the business of providing basic amenities so that. capitalist won't run the mass over . When govt do it , iFG should be involved not to make profit but to make it competitive fornother providers. Every reasonable govt every where is in one way or the other involved in providing electricity for the people . You can't leave such an important amenity solely in the hands of insatiable capitalists. On payment of subsidy on electricity in Nigeria, the Fg should come clean majority of Nigerians are on estimated billing and we don't enjoy 6 hours of power daily. So who's the FG paying subsidy for ? |

dettolgel:You want Government to increase minimum wage, provide you cheaper fuel, cheaper electricity, infrastructure, etc yet you want Government to keep paying subsidy on everything. where would the money come from? |

Gradually we are enduring the suffering as a way of taking out burden out of the country ..how can govt pay billion for darkness.. this will lead to improve electricity in a long run ..no more free money for electric distribution..now they will sit up tight ..give light n collect bill accordingly to what they give ..with free meter everywhere it will be very good idea ..the only problem is low minimum wages which the poor cannot afford... Nigeria a confuse country. |

Teymanhenry:Nigerians are not fools, the Igbos will not join any protest except if that protest is to divide Nigeria, we keep getting blamed for trying to help Nigeria, we were even blamed for presenting Peter Obi who was a far batter candidate than the person there now, we have tried, let other tribes also try and help Nigeria too.... |

Once upon a time, we had heavily subsidised phone services. The result was that phones were only available for the rich, because the NITEL did not have enough money to give everyone a phone. Then came the GSM companies, who were allowed to charge prices as they liked. Things were not good at first. You could not call between networks, call NITEL Landlines, and so on and so forth. And the prices were high. And the GSM companies made obscene profits....which enabled them to pay for imporvements, and expansion of network and bring in new technology. Result...today, even people living in poor areas have access to phones. Something that back in 1980's was the preserve of the rich and some high level workers. |
