That is an unrealistic point when it concerns me. When it comes to direct contributions it is Kevin De Bruyne. When it comes to eye appealing and effective magic, it is Zidane.

When it comes to selection, it is preference. I prefer KDB to Zidane if I was to pick one. You might prefer Zidane to KDB. I don't think you can say this is better but instead you look at attributes they offer.
This one don reduce Zidane to a mere trickster and elevate De Bruyne to an all time great. Ridiculous

And that's why the game has lost its flourish. Dead, sterile football. It will perish.

Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen just one the league. Watch them train using Rondos. Possession game is growing and spreading.

You go wait tire. No be you? Hahaha hahaha make I post wetin no agree with your postulation as if it will change anything. Take it or leave it - football in Serie A was intense. Very intense. Really, really intense

You that was arguing against what a Spanish football journalist wrote about the Spanish team.
It's hard to believe that anyone who watched the beauty of football will cheer the mechanical football they play now in the name of "intensity and speed". The Lord rebuke the rugby!

Goal contribution is a lame way of measuring players performance. Goal contribution is often criticized as a limited measure of player performance. For instance, Chukwueze's exceptional dribbling against Roma resulted in Giroud hitting the post, an opportunity that won't be counted as a goal contribution because his teammates failed to convert the chance. This scenario is not an isolated incident. Despite statistically favoring Pulisic over Chukwueze, those who watch the games closely recognize the nuances of their performances.
To illustrate, Zidane's impact on the 1998 World Cup final for France was monumental, almost single-handedly securing their victory. In contrast, his absence due to injury during the 2002 World Cup led to France's early exit in the group stage. In 2006, Zidane's performance nearly won France another World Cup, although his actions in the final overshadowed his brilliant play. His Champions League-winning goal is still revered as one of the best in history, highlighting his enduring influence on the game's biggest stages.

While players like De Bruyne are crucial for their teams, Belgium and Manchester City have shown they can perform without him in important games. De Bruyne has not affected any important game in history (Euros final, World Cup or Champions league). Eve, 20-year-old Foden has seamlessly adapted to his role without any issues.

Who takes Thiago Alcantara seriously? Which space is he talking about? lol
There is no time in history that football has suffered mediocre talent than now.Comparing the quality of teams from past eras like Ajax, Liverpool, Inter, Juventus, Milan, Lyon, Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Porto, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Roma, Chelsea, and even the Manchester City of the past to present teams reveals a stark difference in talent! Mediocrity has taken over!
These are the kind of people who will destroy Michelangelo's masterpieces or the Benin artefacts without compunction. They will look at the Mona Lisa and say to hell, burn it.

A Brazilian guy on X basically said the bolded albeit with national teams. He said teams like Brazil, Italy, France, Netherlands, Portugal, Argentina had better players than today.

But no, today's football is intense therefore you are wrong.

😂 😆

You got it totally wrong. All I talk or post is actually what I see. I only go to get people's comments because I know there are other people seeing what I am seeing.

Most I type is actually from my personal study of the game. If you want me to go indepth of what Thiago Alcantara said, I will, siting examples and matches.

What you will say is that I watch the game differently. I see the intensity. I see the development of the game. I see the tactical changes and growth. I appreciate development faster.
Answer his question. Name the players. No long talk. We are talking quality.

You do know that Thiago's point about "the opportunity to turn" is actually about his (and many other) coaches instructions to the classical minded players denying them opportunity to do their stuff.

But I know it doesn't fit your talk

Thiago clearly stated no space to turn. This is not about instruction but intensity.

This shows your lack of understanding of football. With intensity and speed, you can outperform a player with more elegant qualities. That was how the gap in football got bridge and why we see little poets today.

The poets of the past were playing against unfit players with less speed and intensity.

For you to ask the question above means you need to educate yourself more on the advancement of the game.

Arteta's Arsenal has made tremendous progress and shown champions stuff at times but games like today are reasons why Pep's Man City remains the best team in England.

When it absolutely matters, Man City somehow know how to get the job done. But Arsenal had that one chance today after Liverpool faltered but they buckled.

With Man City on top now with the top 3 having played the same number of games now.... it will take only a Miracle to see them slip up now. Pep's Machines are gonna be English Champs again most likely.

To be honest, I think Arteta's Arsenal will stand a chance to truly dominate England if Pep leaves Man City coz damn it man, it is difficult and almost impossible keeping up with a Man City under Pep Guardiola.

Naija: Back to Back Euro Top 5 league Champs

Last season, Nigeria had Victor Osimhen conquering a Top 5 Euro league by emerging Serie A Champion.

This season, Nigeria have two in Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella emerging as Bundesliga Champs in the same season that Bayern strengthened with a Harry Kane up top for them.

It's the Nigerian Champions show in Europe's Top 5 leagues back to back. Who will it be next season from Africa's most valuable national team?

Interview of Thiago Alcantara

How is football different from when you started?

It’s taken up a different pace, rhythm: more accelerated, more physical. The figure of the No 10 has almost disappeared. We see less magic, less fantasy. Footballers do more but faster. There’s no need to dribble because you run. Players are more developed in every sense. You lose that player who’s different, who ‘breathes’; the playmaker who was slower even if he had sublime technique doesn’t get the opportunity to turn. Those of us who are not so fast with our legs have to be faster in our heads. It’s like anything in life: adaptation. Things keep moving. Football changes constantly, expressed differently.

when pep wins the league come may the premier league will be the only top 5 league with it's current champions being consecutive winners. Four in a row at that. Something pep couldn't achieve in Germany and Spain.

See Alonso's last line of defense. They force you to play football majorly in your own half of hhe field. No wonder they don't concede too much. They also press immediately they lose the ball and recover quickly. Pure genius!

Quick and intense is not a value I cherish if it leads to the loss of the artistic. I simply don't care about it.

It is to the eternal genius of Maradona that despite his flaws, none of your superman athletes can stand in his shadows just only Messi and Ronaldo out of the army of runners we have now.

Speed and intensity una

Nice post. That is why I find it funny when people say tiki Taka is boring. This high line is one of the biggest advancement of the game. The defenders today are comfortable with the ball like midfielders. This is something I enjoy watching repeatedly with Manchester City too. I hope we see more tactical advancement in Xabi Alonso's career.
