DeadPresidents: Someone said with the AI intrusion into every sector we might need to revisit the idea of Universal Basic income We thought its the physical labor that AI will first hit with robots but its looking like its the knowledge economy that is getting hit first. Cos all the jobs based on knowledge can be done by chatgpt with minimal human input Thinking about it, the only people who wont be affected are owners of land based resources and real estate since thats what AI cannot create yet (New land) 4 Likes 3 Shares |

raumdeuter: Your point about the banks is especially poignant because, a couple of weeks ago, I walked into a CHASE branch hoping for a walk-in service. But when one of the PBs told me that an appointment was required, I was shocked! I also noticed that the bank looked scant, with regard to the number of employees, on a weekday. Then, on your point about the realtors, I recently heard that almost 40% of Vegas real estate agents/realtors are considering quitting the business, due to both the Supreme Court ruling and the slump in housing sales So, yeah, I agree that something nasty is about to brew about this economy. 1 Like |

raumdeuter: You’d be shocked when robots would be developed to construct homes and other buildings. The allure of the robots would chiefly be that they work much quicker and are more efficient than humans. Then once that happens, the construction industry would be hit with a recession |

OasisX: "CBN is pegging the rates". Interestingly reserves are still in decline still, I wonder why Itrm isnt bothered about where and what the reserve payments is going towards. Isnt CBN defending the Naira?. No one seems to care about the status of the reserves until Naira appreciates. Anyway from what I'm seeing in the market ( NAFEM data). Looks like there's a lot of apprehension as sales volumes are really declining. Institutions and supply side arent selling and demands seems excessive. The market seems volatile at the moment and I wouldnt be surprised if CBN actually intervenes at this time 1 Like |

BlueRayDick: Their closest competitor SLTV is not serious. Their poor picture quality will make you start questioning your own TV. Their agents will even gaslight you about your HDMI port. There is also the issue of watching matches which are 2 minutes late. I wonder if it is still live match. These are issues stopping me from wasting my money on them but then, I doubt Chelsea gives me so much joy these days to pay DSTV exploitative fee. I will have to look into iptv. |

OasisX: and just like that bello has shown why his fellow northern governors have such big families - for money evacuation purposes via dubious school fees payments we are likely to find that all these 'international' schools and universities are running money laundering scams for governors and government officials this is also why the FG reiterated that there will be no dollar payments for services in nigeria. same way abroad school fees were used to get dollars at official rate by the connected i just notice that the papers are dated December 2023. looks like EFCC may have actually taken the time to build the case |

raumdeuter: AI at the moment is such a funny one. I work primarily on transformation projects almost exclusively driven by PE activity, and so I'm seeing something else that a lot of people aren't really talking about, but yet I think is the primary driver for 'AI adoption' in the corporate space...and it's SaaS adoption. If you think back to let's say 2012 which wasn't that long ago, most organisations had almost their entire infrastructure on prem, or at a co-lo data centre. You will have a bunch of domain controllers for resource access and control, sitting on Blade servers somewhere. Your telephony system would be on your PBX system on prem. Your email would be on exchange server or lotus server somewhere. You will have your bank of switches and routers linked to a leased line for your networks. You will procure bare metal boxes to provision for Print server, or VPN server Your developers are maintaining your website on your own servers. Your finance system is maybe Dynamics AX or Sage or something like that. You would have multiple SQL and SSRS boxes for reporting. Your CRM is probably something like InterAct. The whole thing is probably integrated (if at all) with something like a Biztalk server on prem. It was around that period that VMware VSphere began to make waves for provisioning and managing virtual machines. Citrix Xenapp was used to create virtual work environments for dumb terminals and the occasional remote worker. Then AWS took off and practically ended all of this overnight. Azure came on with GCP and practically rendered on prem redundant, with help from kubernetes, docker, etc.. M365 made on prem redundant to the point where even individual software licensing model per user changed forever. The likes of Workday, D365, Oracle Fusion, NetSuite, etc eliminated on prem ERPs. The likes of Boomi, AIS, mulesoft eliminated the on-prem middleware layer. A lot of the cloud adoption I've seen in the last decade has been driven by PE business model of taking over a business, cutting costs aggressively, setting up a lean operation, and then selling the business for profit in a few years. Thr only thing that was missing was a remote working culture, which js where Covid comes in. Everything was already in the cloud, all the people that used to be hired to maintain on prem systems had already been fired. As soon as even the workers could also be placed in the cloud, the logical next step was to replace them with with off-shoring, near shoring, and ultimately AI. That's my theory on why it seems like AI seemingly appeared yesterday and spread like wild fire. I think it's actually an extension of the SaaS industry, which itself is driven by PE. 4 Likes |
