Who else notice that the japa noise has reduced these days? Or people no longer japa again ? Before, anywhere you go on social media you’ll see things like “I don’t get these things, I just talk to a man who sold his 5 duplexes and 500 cars and 6 businesses in Nigeria to relocate to UK permanently “ “new dispensation”

Is it that people no longer japa ir they’re hiding it now?

not that you would really teach me, there is one or two things i feel i need to understand better, not that i can't write javascrtipt code at all anyway

UK is just an overrated country. Aside the presence of electricity I dont even see the difference between Nigeria and the UK. I have friends in the UK with the same experience level as I am and they cant even get a job interview despite being there for more than a year o. They will be saying UK experience. As if the javascript written in the UK is different from the one written in Nigeria. Canada is a much better place but an extremely difficult place to survive if you arent well loaded. Australia has made great changes to its post study scheme. I am so glad I followed an uncommon route and I like it so far.

I beg to disagree on your assertion about the UK.
The UK is actually a very great country
but because of HOW most of our people got here, and the CONDITIONS in which they got here
coupled with the fact that we don't support ourselves

its Hellish
my pals from Korea are really loving it here
cos their circumstances are much diff

Because the cost of a flight rose to more than 3million at a time

The devaluation of the naira did a lot of harm

How many months salary or how many land you go sell to raise japa money? Tinubu na disaster

After living in UK and Canada , I'd say Canada is less rough for a skilled immigrant. If you are patient, hardworking and a good planner it is quite easy to get stable in Canada. Express entry rules are clear which can be used to get permission to live and work in canada. After that, one can move to Canada with money + skills and battle out the job market and gradually build. Problem with our culture is the love for doing things anyhow without planning. Thus you can find someone dealing with spouse, children, immigration, financial and career issues all at the same time in foreign country.

UK has tightened their immigration policies with recent salary threshold of £38700 and care COS restriction.

KPMG has even made it clear they won't hire overseas workers again. That's the resultant effect. The govt wants to push Brits especially people on benefits back to workforce. Apprenticeship especially where there's massive shortages is being supported.

That's the challenge we migrants are facing now and migrants that came especially last year is too high. So demand has significantly increased for declining opportunities (supply).

All these don't mean "apart from electricity, UK is the same as Nigeria". A single night shift here is what professional earn as monthly salary back in Nigeria (with over 50% inflation). Stop capping please.

Honestly I can never advise a married man to migrate from Nigeria Sha grin. I am just glad I did the whole thing when I am single. If I was married with kids I don't even know how I will cope.
Never. I came to canada as a single person aged 30 with a professional job offer in hand and support from friends but I still struggled. I slept on my friend's sofa for 3 weeks before moving to an Air bnB (after earning my first paycheck). Stayed in a basement for one month. Then moved to another air bnb (room in a chinese couple home) where I stayed for 3 months. I could not compete for apartment rental for 4 months. All rental applications were rejected due to skin color, lack of canadian rental history, credit history and low credit score. The only landlord that accepted my application in the 4th month demanded for 5 months rent upfront. I can't imagine going through this with dependents. It was not easy.

I didn’t want to comment.they tell u what they earn, they don’t tell u what they spend .my rent in Toronto is 2.3m naira monthly for a room and palor.that money can pay for a 3 bedroom yearly rent in lekki.that money in 12 months can buy someone a 3 bedroom modest bungalow.my prayer is for everyone to go to this abroad and see things for themselves.
I guess you're earning at least 5 million monthly... if you're married, your household income maybe be more or less 8 million... Mention that too and your quality of life.

Don't mind the clownish dude.

Asides the monthly rent, several bills with heavy taxes wait for him there on a daily / monthly bases.

At the end, and truthfully, he is not really better than a Nigerian here earning quite decent amount of money as wages or salary.

Quite decent as in how much?

Those that have money are doing it codely.

I have about five people in my hands that I am processing japa for through the student route. They don't make noise, because silence is security.

Japa happens, all the time. People leave the airport every day, they just choose not to make noise.
Going to study abroad for the purpose of upskilling is great. Going to canada as a student without money is like hell. I studied in UK about 10 years ago when the exchange rate was about 270 and I had a very good time. The struggle I see students in canada go through is not worth it and very unfair of the country to offer such abysmal study experience to internation students who pay so much.
Canada has a skilled worker program (express entry) that makes it possible for highly skilled professionals to come into the country and employers tend to hire these candidates based on their skills and experiences. International students with no experience are usually not able to compete with these candidates in the job market and end up struggling. As for adult students who moved en mass in 2021-2023 only time will tell if the Canadian immigration system does not axe them

US has been so hard cuz they no dey give visa again. It’s like they’ve shadowbaned the green passport, but keep collecting money from us for visa — you’re spending nothing less than 1M+ trying to get appointment, especially if you are thinking of the student route — yet denied. Go to Walter Carrington around 6AM to 8AM, and see crowd , only to get denied and money wasted. Most Nigerians now will rather use their money chop fish and open shop for their wives to be selling beans and rice than to waste such money on American visa
B1/B2/F1 visa is not the issue. Getting a green card is the major challenge. Being restricted in a foreign land is hard enough

This is Canada o. You can imagine countries where the first language isn't English. I migrated to Chile and I planned it well. I even took the pains to find a house from Nigeria and paid a year worth of rent and it was worth it for me to be honest.

The thing is you cant even explain things to people such that they will understand. When people come to my apartment now they will think everything worked out easily but it wasn't. Some people will definitely have it easier but my own experience was harsh and I landed the country as a PR , employer supported me and friend picked me up + housed me for 3weeks

People easily compare income in UK vs Nigeria without comparing expenses. What's the essence of earning so high when your expenditure is also so high and at the end of the day you have almost no savings?

The West from.time to time throw banana to Africans, attract our professionals to come and do their menial jobs. Once they get what they want they close the door. 10 years after, they open another window and the cycle continues. Modern day slavery
Money is what it can do for you oohh. Exchange rate only means something to me when I'm travelling to Nigeria. Ability to make good money anywhere I find myself is more important than all this exchange rate thing

Honestly, it's just that Nigeria is a shithole and the country is getting worst everyday and Africa as a continent has zero prospects. If we even had latin America's level of growth and infrastructure, I will just stay back. I feel that aside the united States, there's really no country in the world better than Chile to me. Everything is here. Infrastructure is solid and if you are well skilled especially in tech, there's more than enough jobs here.

It is very expensive which is why I restricted my apartment search to vaughan where I can get on Line 1 subway. When I start driving I'd be open to even moving to further north. All my life housing has been something I took for granted till i came to GTA where its so expensive

And what can 200,000 per month (if you are lucky to earn that self) do for you in Nigeria at 50%+ inflation rate? To fuel your generator and provide light for yourself will take half of that money. Do a breakdown of other expenses and might see yourself borrowing money to survive well.

UK GDP per capita is $45,000; Nigeria is $1,100. I don't know how else to explain this. Minimum wage is Nigeria per month is 22£ (2hrs work here).

In summary, I am not saying UK is heaven oh. I have pointed out what the main issue is. Getting full papers, fitting in and settling down. you can't compare someone with full right to work in UK to Nigeria. That's why people are running in the first place

Shey na wetin I bin dey preach since?? People think it is by earning so-called 1 million in naira equivalent every month without considering the actual spending power of their earnings in the country they reside in. Ultimately, na why I dey emphasise that people should have fewer children and plan their lives accordingly. No dey born born up and down.
