That's very expensive as a Volkswagen cost about #1,500 back then and a station wagon Peugeot was going for #5,000.

Those were the good old days!!!
After wedding reception, you go home with your tear rubber (virgin) wife, not these fairly and roughly used (non-virgins) of nowadays. When you get home, una go enjoy unaselves and you go dey happy ever after. The #500 no go pain you lailai because the partner wey you meet worth the money. Imagine been the first to drive a car, not fairly used we see everywhere nowadays.
Anyways, what do I even know sef aside enlightening my fellow men nationwide with the good news.

Oga if you no meet your wife as a virgin, oga go for DNA test oooooo because boreholes aka non-virgins can't be trusted

And the funniest part is that most bannies that got married via that cheap amount of money were virgins...

Then again, I just had a thought...And that's the fact that we,men are now being compelled to pay lavishly trying to marry a community project all in the name of wife...

Wahala dey cha undecided

Imagine a time when we used to spend kobo and a hall was 500naira.

I wonder why marrying a woman is so expensive?

And the dollar/pound sterling hardly loses value. Do IELTS..... Japa ooooo. Secure your future o. Another 42 years from now, we might be buying a bottle of Fanta for 1 million naira grin

Check my siggy ..... very important !
Re: Wedding Reception Price In 1982 (see Receipt) by obaidan:
The minimum wage in 1982 was NGN3.35( 3 naira and 35 kobo) ... the hall was 500 naira (multiple of almost 150 of minimum wage)
The minimum wage today is N30k ...I am not sure 4.5million naira will get you the same venue today

updated: Minimum wage in 1982 was 125naira.

Good old times.
This is a testament to the fact that inflation can’t stop and prices of goods and services will continue to rise every time. Y’all should brace for impact and have more sources of income that can cater for your needs and enjoyment. Life can really be interesting when there’s money guys.

I’m talking from experience.
Re: Wedding Reception Price In 1982 (see Receipt) by Ijaya123: 5:10pm On Apr 28, 2024
Some people were still unable to afford such at that time.

Re: Wedding Reception Price In 1982 (see Receipt) by BodyCount: 5:11pm On Apr 28, 2024
Nothing has really changed.

AN AVERAGE WORKING CLASS MAN IN THE 80S CAN'T BOAST OF 500 IN THEIR ACCOUNT.

The only thing that has changed is inflation, population boom and standard of living.

Eko Club, off Bode Thomas in Surulere back in the day, good times.

I remember that N20 was huge back in the very early 1980s (1982 as a case study here). It could buy a lot of things at any of the Kingsway Department Stores outlets, UTC Department Stores or Leventis Stores as of 1980-1985.

So, N500 was a lot of money paid for the wedding reception at the elite Eko Club based on the prevailing price of things at that time.

Goddammit why are Nigerian men so freaking hang up about marrying a Virgin, when they themselves are so fu*king removed from being a virgin.

Very expensive at 500naira in 1982. I know someone who spent 120naira for wedding expenses in the 70s.
