Nice2023:

U do something for someone and he or she refuses to say thank u and u expect the donor to be happy.

I want to ask u,are u normal at all?

Is this the kind of generation of women we now have. I believe people like u are the ingrate the OP is talking about.

If u can't make reasonable contributions pls, avoid topics like this.

Do u know what gratitude is? Read about it and stop fooling around.
I don't just understand the way some people reason on this app I don't know whether if they have some issue with their head or I don't know

In this life not everybody you see really deserves a helping hand. I can tell you that some poor people are proud than some elites.
We once had a neighbour who we were very close to. As in family-friends. So one day i saw the trouser that my friend was wearing, the trouser was under-sized for him because he had grown taller than the trouser's length. And that is even one of his best trousers he wore to church.

So one day i picked some of my favourites clothings and jeans trousers even palm shoes. I ironed the clothes and some trousers and presented it to him. He was very glad and happy and showed his mum, the woman pretended to be happy about it sha.

But till date, i have never seen my friend wearing anyone of them. The thing pain me o because i still loved the clothes and shoes i gave him. I am even confused maybe it is my friend or his mother that are ingrate. What do you call this type of attitude?

Happy new month!
next time take him to market and buy two trouser and two clothes . Not everyone fancy used clothes as it has spiritual meaning to some people

You are right and the giver too is right, just that some poor people have ego too no matter what they are passing through. Don't be surprised to see your neighbor putting on the clothes after a long time.

Re: Helping The Poor These Days Is Very Dangerous by Malawian(m): 1:32pm On May 01
That means you had not given out those clothes, otherwise you wouldn't be looking to see if he wears them or not.
Re: Helping The Poor These Days Is Very Dangerous by Light2023: 1:42pm On May 01
Your friend is not an ingrate. There is a 100% possibility his mum told him not to wear them, am saying this from my personal experience.

When i was in secondary school i had really poor clothes and shoes, anytime my friend gave me something better my mum will get very angry and tell me to return them back.

Re: Helping The Poor These Days Is Very Dangerous by mastermaestro(m): 1:48pm On May 01
As someone rightly wrote up there: only give people what they ask for. For many valid reasons, the Bible supports this principle hundred percent (Matthew 7:7). Unsolicited kindness can be received with mixed feelings. grin Feeling of 'he thinks I am suffering'. The last thing I give out is used clothes and shoes. I would rather dispose them quietly. Don't judge me, I had an experience that drove me in this direction.

Unless you have a younger one who needs them, a close relative who asks for them, or a close pal who begs you for them, trash your used clothes and shoes quietly. E get why. sad My eldest sister experienced this same shit with a fellow church member. She complained to them. I told her she made the mistake. Listen, that someone wears rags does not mean you should 'force' your used wears on them. Let them ask you if they really want them.

When you give someone something they didn't ask for, they place dung value on it. This includes money.

How do you know the mother pretended to be happy with it?
Why are you looking out for him wearing it or not.
You chose to give it out and you complain you still love them items...

These your allegations are devoid of substance.

1 pair of stock jean is currently 20k at Mandilas in Lagos, long sleeve shirts is about 15k, shoes starts from 35k and above.

Imagine giving someone all that and he disposes it in the trash and you're here saying his way no pure.

Do you know what it takes to give out clothes that are still very useful to you in this Tinubu's era and the gift isn't appreciated?

Some of you just condemn people recklessly without putting yourselves in their position.

Giving is selflessness.
Nobody forced him to give it out.... sometimes it's demeaning to just assume you know what someone needs ,he never said the guy asked him for clothes .
You give person something and is expecting the person to use it the way you want ,what if this guy gave it to someone that needs it more than him.

The OP gave out the clothes and is expecting the guy to be worshipping him because he gave him clothes he didn't solicit for , Abegi

There are some gifts you don't give people irrespective of their situations to avoid unnecessary interpretation.

How do you feel comfortably giving out your used clothes to your Neighbours. I don't think that is right thing to do, you should have taken him to boutique and buy one or two brand new pairs for him instead. Aside your siblings, family members or friends that took your clothes out of love, the only people you should give used clothes to are beggers or lowest of the low in society.

It tells alot about the way you see him, you simply don't respect him or feel he doesn't deserve better at his situation.

Reason isn't deep enough. If you n him didn't talk about it then it's no issue. Did you see all he wears daily?
What if he had worn those you gave him in days you n him didn't see eachother.

Hmmm...
This is a trickish one....
It is of two ways; it may be ego from the mum or immaturity from the guy. Whichever way, you have played your part, leave the reward, compensation or appreciation part to God.... after all, it was kindness not an investment.

Mind you, that shouldn't stop you from helping people, rich or poor.

If you need to do such some other time, this is my advice; because of the nature of the society we belong to and the mentality of the people that dominate it, just stylishly ask your beneficiary if he minds such gesture....there are decent and effective ways to go about that

Go tell him if he does not like those items, he should return it back to you, that someone else can use those things, and that you can still use them either since he is not using it.

Treat ungrateful people strictly, no need to pretend with ungrateful fellows. Collect from him and be happy πŸ˜„πŸ˜ again. Let him and the mum cry blood.

Definitely this is not help.... Something you did while expecting thanks is not an help... Either he wore the cloth or not shouldn't be your problem.... You have done your best for him and why not wait for God to reward you.... You never can tell the guy might cherish the cloth to the extent of keeping it as one of his best cloth that need to be wear while going to an important occasion...simply because you haven't seen the guy put on the cloth doesn't means he didn't appreciate...

You gave someone money to eat and the person used all to play betting and lost it all if you later find out will you still type this same statement up there

One thing I noticed here is you did it with good intentions and I know how it feels when appreciation is not expressed in a way you expected trust me. But in some cases, that is doesn't mean it was not appreciated.
But here are what might be the case here
1) The guy might really love the gesture but the mum have advised him not to wear them because of how bedeviled the world can be now

2) He might feel intimidated wearing clothes you dash me. Strictly a thing of pride and nothing personal, he doesn't want to show it hence he accepted it.

3) He might have even sold them to get some money because he knew they were very good clothes.
Whatever his reasons are, it doesn't mean it wasn't appreciated- Fear, Money or Pride might be a factor, so just take solace in the fact that it was accepted and remove your mind from it. As long as the relationship with the guy is cordial, no wahala.
Personally, before I offer you food, clothes or money I must observe you to be the type that have asked for it before, directly or indirectly, to avoid misunderstandings like this.
You did well with good intentions. Don't let that stop you from being a nice person.
And I see comments like this is why I don't help poor people, bla bla bla. Hope y'all are related to Dangote. I hate it when you general things, there are a few less previleged I've been blessed to be of assistance to in my own little way and till date, the gratitude is almost embarrassing. So please drop it! Not all poor/less privileged ppl are ungrateful or abuse privilege.
