Advancedman:Smh. It shows that you are never in the circle of these high performing excellent people. They are rare so I am not surprised that you don't know them. One of them is Temi Popoola who got appointed as the GMD, NGX Plc with effect from Jan 1, 2024. He joined NGX in 2021 and within 2 years became the Group Managing Director and CEO! Temi Popoola finished with First Class ,Chemical Engineering, University of Lagos (UNILAG) https://www.nairaland.com/7952503/ngx-group-names-temi-popoola https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rEl_4vyyjY?si=ZS9SzNSYzZ08cX18 |

I am not surprised. To get admission into unilag, you must do very well in Jamb and post-jamb. Most times, more than 20% of Jamb candidates choose unilag as there 1st choice only for the best among the lots to get the admission to high rated courses like Engr, CS, Law and others. Check the caliber of students that usually make unilag list. Folks from Queens College, Kings College, high worth private schools like Corona and Federal Govt Colleges. Why won't they churn out real 1st class. Let's give it to the guys who deserve their worth jare. 1 Like |

True. I recall my friend who entered his university with JAMB score of 224 telling me that he would have topped his equivalent department in UNILAG because "UNILAG is easy". He conveniently forgot that UNILAG cut-off for that same department was 272, when reminded he said "E no matter". His school's cutoff for that department was 207. He would have been in the same class with his ogas at the top Jeboy: |

Gerrard59:Thanks 👍 Thanks for that I told someone the same thing it's easier to bag First class in Physics, Mathematics Engineering than even in English because it's usually based on Precision and accuracy....But once it involves cognitive thinking you would be evaluated based on your Creatively and Cognitive skills 2 Likes 2 Shares |

While creative and cognitive skills courses are subject to the lecturer's discretion when scoring students, numerical courses require precision and accuracy which most brilliant/smart student could easily score 99.9% or even 100%. So, getting an A that starts from 70% won't be a thing for such geniuses and smart dudes. GUNITGuy: 2 Likes |

Bullcrap. You are analyzing universities like secondary schools. Clearly define your scope first, not what your brother and cousin told you about their respective individual courses in school. Besides, UNILAG lecturers have been teaching in LASU from time immemorial across most of their departments, maybe you need to sound out a few of them. Scholace: |

Same stories with UNILAG engineering teachers including the legendary Akoka Giant Prof Ayodele Awojobi, Prof Alfred Susu, Prof Alaba Akinsete, Professor Francis Ayodele Ogunye, Prof Francis Fajemirokun, Prof N. A. Abdul. Prof Sambo Balogun, Prof Salau, Prof Vincent Olunloyo, Prof Oye Ibidapo-Obe, Prof Francis Olatunji, Prof Akin Loto, Prof Chigozie Nwilo among several others across other faculties who are all products of top universities abroad at one level or the other. If not for Lagos location, Nigeria would have messed them up if they were stationed in other universities. Raskimonojendor: |

GUNITGuy: I have come across only one first class in Mass Communication and English (I am not too sure). But I am sure of Mass Communication, and she finished from Unilag. Me wey bin dey read Punch First Class Champions is what someone is telling me otherwise. Only Ayo and the Muslimah girl in Law had 5.0 in non-numerical courses. Any bright student can attain 5.0 in numerical courses. 1 Like |

To get first class now is very easy ChatGPT has taken over the internet. Very smart and concise way to answer examination questions and cheat. In our time, all we know is from the number of books you have read or regurgitate.. These days even without been conversant with any topic in any discipline you can answer questions correctly using chatGPT.. I won't believe this rubbish |

Raskimonojendor: As you rightly predicted, he got sponsored by Knight Hennessy - a very prestigious and elit scholarship at obviously, a top-rated university. I think he should be the third Nigerian (studied in Nigeria at undergraduate level) and the second from Unilag. Like Ayodele, like David. https://knight-hennessy.stanford.edu/people/david-akanmu |
Re: UNILAG To Graduate 379 First Class Students At 54th Convocation by Gerrard59(m): 2:45am On May 10 |
kazyhm: Bankyshinani: captainbangz: That even makes it more easier. It is an unarguable fact that numerical students find it easy attaining first class rank compared to their humanities counterparts. Which is why every university has one engineering or computer science or mathematics grad as the best or second best graduating student. Bankyshinani: The number of first class graduates is not up to 5% of the total number of graduands. So, it is not a significant figure. That said, Unilag admits the best students, so convoking more first class graduates is expected. Garbage in, garbage out. In 2016, almost half of Imperial College London grads had a first class. 1 Like |

bolu96: It really does. I like to ask questions so we know where we are coming from, where we are presently and where we are going to. As it is, Unilag is the leading university for grads from Africa to be funded by Knight Hennessy to Stanford. UI and Uniben have one each. One might ask, what about Covenant University? That is because it is a private university where it is expected sponsors of students there can afford foreign education to an extent. Anyway, Unilag is the first public university to produce the first 5.0 CGPA graduate in the country and has the highest number of such graduates so far. The school has proved itself to be one of the top three universities in the country and I dare say top seven in the entire West African sub-region. It attracts the best from across the country. More questions to ask would be: what were David Akanmu's WASSCE grades? The same question applies to Ayodele Dada and the lass from LASU who made 5.0 in Law. Which secondary schools did they finish from? What was David Akanmu's JAMB score (Ayo did not write JAMB)? There are many interesting questions which would lead to profound insights about education in the country. When my money is ready, I would sponsor thorough and detailed research to answer those questions. One would be to extract the top JAMB scorers from its inception to date. As it is, I already have the top WAEC performers from a particular year. The top on the list went straight to the US and currently works at McKinsey and Company. From the list, many schools managed by the church, especially those by the Catholic Church, were number one. Just as this year's JAMB revealed from across the country: schools managed by the Catholic Church produced more high scorers (350+) than any group of schools. What this means to prospective parents is that, if you want your child to score very high in JAMB, send him/her to a school managed by the Catholic Church. Everything would be fact-based with accurate figures, not fat and figos. The era of "dem tell me say" and "I no fit lie give you" has to come to and end. 3 Likes |
