The simplest fact to understand about
these two food items is

1 ⏩ Butter is strictly got from animal
source, which is milk. Milk fat is separated
from milk & becomes butter or mai shanu
in Hausa. Cheese is also gotten from milk.

2) ⏩⏩Margarine is strictly from plant source,
usually vegetable oil which goes through
a series of processes to become margarine.

This does not tell us the nutritional difference
Whether you get sugar from sugar cane or beet it is still sugar

Information about source does not tell us nutritional difference

Nutritional difference is difference in content , composition and health effect

It is most Nigerians that are confused ......They call blue band etc BUTTER .....the companies didn't call it Butter........I can bet anything over 70% of Nigerians haven't tasted BUTTER, they don't even know what it looks like. ...

So there is nothing like Scam here........

Well true,I was at the super mart one day,I was in the aisle for these things, and I saw how they all craftily didn't term it as butter,it was all termed bread spread, infact I could not find a single Nigeria product that was named butter,
Only the foreign ones,

Also true most Nigeria don't know what butter tastes like.

What you think you know and eat as butter.
Re: What Is The Nutritional Difference Between Butter And Margarine? by noobody(m): 4:16pm On May 10
SmartyPants:

Bread spread is simply a blanket term for any of these items that we eat with bread. Butter, margarine, mayonnaise, nutella, peanut butter, etc, are all types of bread spread.

When it comes to butter and margarine, the main difference is that butter is made from milk and margarine is made from vegetable oil.

Butter is a form of bread spread, very true.
But bread spread been sold to us here in Nigeria is not butter!!

Why does seed oil cause health complications? by what mechanism

What do you mean by Highest fat /oil quality

How is quality defined or established by what metric?

How are vegetable oils made?
Traditional plant-based oils are extracted as you might expect — by crushing or pressing plants or seeds. Modern seed / vegetable oils are highly processed, refined, and usually produced using various chemicals. That’s why there weren’t around until the 20th century (and certainly not part of any ancestral diets, which always gives me pause).

The seeds are crushed and mixed with a solvent, typically hexane (which is made from crude oil). The Journal of Experimental and Clinical Toxicology references a study that found that hexane residue was detected in thirty-six out of forty examined samples (source). If you’re curious about the full process, take a look at this video. You’ll also notice that they reserve a sludge-like byproduct of the process for animal feed — one more reason to avoid factory-raised animal products in my opinion.

Vegetable oils and the processed foods they go into also tend to contain the preservatives BHA and BHT. These’ve been linked to cancer, reproductive, developmental, and thyroid issues (source).

On being touted as “heart healthy” (because of the high amount of Omega-3s), it’s worth noting that Canola oil is processed at a temperature over 500 degrees and these oils are unstable / easily oxidize by nature. That means that the Omega-3s could easily be rancid by the time they get to consumers (source).

Butter is of animal fat origin, while margarine is derived from the hydrogenation of vegetable fat ( fat of plant origin).

Margarine is usually more healthy because it is lower in saturated fat.

Oli used in the production of margarine, are usually fractionated before hydrogenation.

This is my favorite answer

Butter is natural from cow milk and it’s good for cooking or spreading on toast. You can make it yourself at home.

Margarine is whipped oil with all kind of dangerous chemicals, it’s actually an ingredient from being plastic.

This the most ridiculous thing I’ve read in a long time.

It’s common sense, there’s no way a process food is better than an all natural one. Butter is healthier in moderation, margarine is poison.

Butter is derived from Cow’s milk, while margarine is plant based. Therefore those that are lactose intolerant may not digest butter well. Hope this helps.

cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

So if you were asked to explain this to a layman, this is what you'll say? Lmao.

Saturated simply means that at room temperature, e go still dey strong(solid). Like the butter no go melt like groundnut oil if e dey normal temperature. You know most people keep their butter in the fridge so wetin go happen if you commot am from fridge come outside.

Unsaturated mean say, at room temperature, that's normal temperature, life outside the refrigerator e no go too dey strong (solid) again.

So therefore, butter is solid at room temperature....saturated

While Margarine go melt at room temperature....unsaturated.

In a nutshell, Butter is animal based(mostly milk), more healthy, and more expensive

while....

Margarine is plant based(nuts, seeds etc) mixed with preservatives/chemicals, not that healthy but cheaper.

Even though butter is a better choice over margarine, people who are overweight or obese are often advised not to consume butter. For such people, margarine with low or no trans fat is sometimes considered to be the best option, since it may prevent increases in blood cholesterol level and heart disease.

Butter would have being a better choice if it were "cholesterol free" ...besides Purpose is what decides "better" here

For baking and cooking, margarine turns out best
For direct consumption or spread, butter tastes good

Margarine can serve all purposes
