Plea bargain is more like a legalized bribery and corruption , co-opted to help the rich, the famous and the politically connected to evade justice for their heinous crimes against the society, and should not be encouraged by the judiciary, especially the judges because anybody could become a victim of their criminal acts .
wadume caused the deaths of our committed officers on duty and some innocent civilians, yet spend only two years in prison, while the dead victims are gone forever, now another notorious kidnapper; Evans is now emboldened to seek to purchase his freedom in the name of plea bargain, what about his victims and the trauma he made them to experience ?
i wonder the type of nation that Nigerians aim to build and bequeath to their next generation, it's really scary.

You guys seem not to understand what a plea bargain entails. It could mean that he will disclose to the police his other accomplices who are still at large, his sponsors, and how he got access to guns and in return gets life imprisonment instead of the death penalty. However, the information obtained from him will help solve many security challenges in the country. Even Hushpuppy was granted a plea bargain to name his accomplices.

As far as I'm concerned his primary reason for asking for please bargain is so that he can escape the death sentence then negotiate a lighter offence.

And please stop comparing Evans with Hushpuppi, the offences they committed are of two very different classes, while Hushpuppi committed a financial misdemeanor Evans on the other hand is a first criminal who committed a capital offence (I'm pretty sure he has also committed murder of a victim before)

He should be sentenced to death by firing squad which should be televised live so everyone can see the ultimate punishment that awaits a kidnapper in Nigeria!

He should be used a a landmark case in Nigeria if we want to nip kidnapping in the bud before it takes root in the country

How does someone sentenced to death comes around for plea bargaining. Has he upturned the sentence at high court. Nigerian police and judiciary will never cease to amaze me.

Hushpuppy cooperated with authorities hence, lower sentence. Plea bargain is part of the deals relating to those testifyinv against Donald Trump.

What type of legal system are we operating in Nigeria...plea bargain for a man that wasted many kidnapped victims and collected ransom in Dollars .. these people should not allow some people to lose hope in our judicial system oo! It is egregious and has no deterent factor

You just said the primary reason he opts for a plea bargain, now what do you think is the primary reason why a Government will consider accepting the plea bargain? Its simply to consider if the information they will get in return from him is worth it.

Plea bargain isn't bad. At least it will save all these lengthy court cases. Instead of getting maybe life imprisonment, he will get like 25 or 50years on each count he pleads guilty to and it will run concurrently.

Evans case has been concluded oo, he has two ropes on his neck, the 1st one is 21years in prison, the second one is life in prison, they are about to hang him the 3rd one, the plea bargain is just him begging the court to come down light on him {a soft sentence}.
