Obi sees himself like the New Zik and presented himself as such to his home base just as Buhari reinvented himself as a pious religious leader in the form of Uthman Dan Fodio to the northern Muslims. Hitherto to Buhari's reinvention of himself as one championing Muslim agenda in Nigeria, northerners hated him especially their political class who saw him as a rigid fellow.

Obi used zikism, biafraism and abused the pulpit to garner Christian support especially amongst the protestants he despised when he was governor of Anambra to which he excluded non Catholics from getting appointments or favours from his adminstration.
