Good evening sir, i just came accroas this thread and great job so far. I have two questions, hopefully you get to respond soon.

1. I have a referal note to go get my VIS road worthiness inspection done, and my xurrent certificate expires tomorrow 19th. If I don't get to go for the inspection maybe because of work demands and I drive my car after the certificate expires on the 19th (tomorrow), say Im driving on the 20th or 21th, would.that be an offence? Would the cameras run my plate and give me a fine even as I have a valid referral note for inspection?

2. During my las VIS inspection, the centre I visited in Surulere renewed my road worthiness for 11 months instead of 12 months. My road worthi ess shouldn't expire till march normally. Is this something that can be corrected? Because usually, all my papers expire at the same time in march and it makes it easy for me to just remember and renew all.at once.

Why is Lagos asking for bck payments on vehicles that moved out of Lagos for extended periods? Isn't this illegal?

Thank you sir. I went dirt the last inspection as soon as i got my referral note, wasn't a month after. And i got my referral note before my road worthiness document at that time even expired. It was an error om their part, but can anything be done to rectify it? I was hoping they can check on their database to see the error and correct it. You know how it is with vehicle licence or insurance, even if you renew before or after expiry, the date remains the same.

1: Vehicle licence
2: Hackney permit
3: Insurance

Am asking because, someone charged me to do my vehicle renewal for me, so we agreed on the above 3 documents only...He now told me the price for the 3 documents.


So today, as he brought the documents for me, He started telling me, that he used his money to pay for another extra document( proof of ownership)....that I wil have to pay him more money for that extra documents.


I told him...I never asked you to do that one, he said....why he did it, is because, during the vehicle licence renewal....that the system won't allow you to skip the "proof of ownership" that they goes together.

But He only brought the 3 documents we agreed on initially....said he wil print out the proof of ownership tomorow which he said..he alewdy paid for in the system.

And when I checked on autoreg verification webpage.....
It was only my vehicle licence and hackney permit that is showing.



My question is....is it true that the system doesn't allow to skip the "proof of ownership "
Am thinking...He is just trying to use that to collect more money from me.

NOTE: the vehicle is stil the original owner...

It costs #1,200,And it is renewable yearly sir.
Maybe you need to exercise patience and see what he will bring for you sir.

Paid someone to do that and now he says the chassis number has problem. That when they ran it on the system it brings 'Opposss'. I don't even understand what that means. This has been on since April. He claims they have taken it to Alausa for resolution and he doesn't know when it will be resolved. Please can you advise on something else i can do? Cause i am tired of waiting.

I was asked to go back to him to help me correct it and reissue the correct referral note before I will qualified for for check up for roadworthiness. All efforts to get the guy was in vain and he's been avoiding me because of the error.

Yesterday, I was sent a message with a bill for an offense of roadworthiness.

How do I contest this and do I have any chance to scale through this bill of 20k I was sent?

Please i have a Toyota hilux(private) but anytime i go for road worthiness certificate, it's always valid for six months.
Why is this so?

Please tell us which documents are to be presented to VIO on demand when they stop one on the road. Are we to present only our road worthiness certificates? Is it appropriate to present all vehicle documents to them?

I reside in Delta state but my car has Lagos plate number. I renew my papers in Delta state or whenever I am in Lagos. I am presently in Lagos and renewing the vehicle papers. However, the Vis portal is showing a fine of 20k for driving without a valid roadworthiness certificate created on 11th August 2022. I remembered I renewed it in Delta state and even did the subsequent one of 2023 in Delta state. How do i contest this bill?

The procedure to replace a faded numberplate is that

1. Provide a copy of the vehicle licence
2. A copy of the POC(proof of ownership certificate )


Wait for 2 days(officially,but can take longer) for it new plate to be printed.
Then you go with the faded numberplate to pick up the newly printed numberplate

(1) you will need to visit the nearest drivers licence center for the renewal of your licence

Or

(2) You log in to www.nigeriadriverslicence.org
(I)Click on renewal
(Ii)Input the data asked (drivers licence number and date of birth).
(III) You can change the address if need be
(IV) Choose the numbers of year you want to renew for(3 or 5 years)
(V) Choose the state/center you would like to be captured/pick up your licence when ready
(VI) Choose if you would want to be recaptured or you want to want to opt for a bypass
(VII)Pay the required fee,print out the form and take the center you choose for VIO test,endorsement/capturing

Get captured and take your temporary immediately.

Why did you do your document separately sir?
Was it because of the roadworthiness inspection in lagos state?
Cos most times you give your document to people to renew and they tell you they renew part in lagos,and some other in another state...
Be careful,you might have fakes embedded among(especially for private vehicles)

You might need to take the document to the nearest vio office for verification sir.

The reason why most plate brings out oppss when you want to do change of ownership is (1) because the former owner have already done existing on the same numberplate before you go for the change of ownership of the car.

Or
If the former owner instead of doing an existing went ahead to re-register the vehicle in another state that operates on autoreg.


The problem will be fixed at alausa but it usually takes time because of administrative process.

Apologies for my late reply sir/ma.

I am not saying there couldn't be a typo on vehicle chassis number but,
In most cases where you have a mistyped on the chassis number reflecting on your documents(vehicle licence, roadworthiness etc) its mostly deliberate and not a typo.

It's what we refer to chassis/vin doctoring.

(1)Most unscrupulous agents instead of paying the correct fee and getting you the right document...they go ahead to circumvent the process by deliberately doctoring the chassis number for registration or change of ownership

(2) Also most unscrupulous custom licenced agent to usually do doctor chassis number so as to evade paying for custom duties on imported vehicle(i.e they bring in like 3 vehicle of same make and model,instead of paying for the custom duties of each of the vehicle,they go ahead and doctor the chassis number on the 2 of the vehicle to be the same as the third,pay for one duty fee and use that to clear out the two other vehicles.

The problem would now come on those that bought the vehicle.

That was why lagos state VIO set up the autovin/forensic department to see to such related issues.

You will need to go to the licensing office to check if your original chassis number is free before anything else sir

Please I did my car papers in Abuja and apparently I got every document except the proof of ownership that now has an expiration date. I want to find out three things
1) Is it true that Abuja doesn’t give this new type of prof of ownership
2) can I still drive inter state with the old type of prof of ownership
3) In a case that it is mandatory I get this proof of ownership can I get it done alone, since I have my other papers intact.
